The Boar Hunt

The next morning was a Sunday. We, again, had no classes. Horace and I were at breakfast talking.

"So why did you get back so late last night?" he asked.

"I was talking to George, and we had a lot to talk about. We just lost track of time, that's all." I said in response. Then Rodney started to walk over.

"Horace, one of the other instructors wishes to speak with you." he said.

"Ok sir." Horace replied slightly confused.

When Horace was gone, Rodney turned to me.

"Did you have fun yesterday?"

"Yes, why do you ask?"

"Well, let's just say I walked back here a couple minutes after you."

"Oh," was all I could say, and I was turning pink.

"George is here to talk to you Cora." Byrn smirked as he walked by.

Once he was gone Rodney said, "So that is the young man's name. How would Byrn know that?"

"He and his friends introduced themselves to us yesterday."

Next thing I knew, George and Horace came over to where we were.

"Hi George." I said as he sat by me. "I thought you had something to do today."

"So did I, but evidentally not, so I came here." he replied.

We just sat there with Rodney questioning George about strange things.

The last question before we left was, "How observant do you think I am?"

"Very, why?"

"Because yesterday I saw something I didn't want to and probably shouldn't have, because now I have something to hold against you two if you ever annoy me."

We just walked away.

We just walked around the town, and ran into Alda, Byrn, and Jerome.

"How are you two doing today?" Alda asked.

George tensed up again, but I said, "Good, you?"

"Very well, thank you."

Then they just walked away.

"They are planning something and trying to get me off my guard. I don't like it. For once in my life, I'm actually scared. I am, though George." I told him quietly.

"I know Cora, and it's ok. They won't do anything to you. They're afraid of you."

"I hope you're right."

"Come on, let's go visit Will."

"Ok!" I exclaimed, my eyes lighting up at the prospect of seeing my best friend.

When we got to Halt's cabin I asked, "How do you know where this place is?"

"I accidentally found it one day."

"Uh huh. "

I went up and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I went around back and didn't see any one. I went to go back to where George was, but Will jumped out of the bushes and tackled me. They planned this! He scared me badly!

"You guys are mean! You know I'm on edge because of those idiots!" I pretended to pout.

"Ok fine. We are mean. But that doesn't mean your reaction wasn't funny." Will grinned.

I gave him an evil look, and he just laughed more.

I'm surprised that George is okay with me and Will being such close friends, I mean, if what Will said is true, and last night proved it, a normal guy would be jealous.

The next day, Horace and I were in the mess hall and were getting ready to go to class when Sir Rodney walked up.

"You two, no classes today. Go two the armory and get two boar spears, then go to the stables and get Ulf to assign you each a horse."

"Ok sir, but why?" I asked.

"It seems as though Halt and his new apprentice have found us a wild boar." he said with a boyish grin on his face.

We got to where the boar hunt was taking place, and I saw Will. For the first time I can remember, both Will and Horace were afraid and had white faces. I was not nervous for some reason.

After the boar was dead, the circle broke and another charged out, right at Horace. Will got it off Horace and on to him, because Horace fell. I threw a rock at its head, and it came after me.

"Cora, what are you doing?!" Horace and Will yelled at me. Rodney, Halt, and Baron Arald turned to me, just in time to see the boar hit the head of my spear, just like Rodney showed me. The spear got stuck in its head, and it fought for a moment, but I wasn't letting that thing move. It tried to kill my brother, and my best friend. Then it just... died. I then realized I was shaking, badly . Horace ran to me and embraced me, glad I was ok. Will kind of just stood there, confused. I pulled him into the hug as well.

"Well, not only is Cora here a girl and she managed to kill it, but she is also a first timer." Rodney said proudly.

Horace and Will were shaking hands. I think they finally got over their childhood rivalry.

We got back to battle school, and the idiots wanted to talk to me.

"Nice job with that boar, Cora." Byrn complimented.

"Thanks, I'm just glad Horace is okay.  I thought he was dead, because he slipped on accident."

"That was amazing considering the size and strength of the boar!" Alda said, all three of them ignoring what I was saying.

"Would you like to come with us to the town to get something to eat?" Jerome asked.

"I'm sorry, guys. I have other plans."

"It's a shame. We were hoping to have someone as pretty as you come with us." Alda sighed.

"Maybe next time."

"What are your other plans? Going out with your boyfriend?" Byrn asked.

"He's not my boyfriend,  but yes, I'm spending the evening with George, and also Will."

"Ok, next time then." Jerome said, walking away.

I got to the town,  and George asked me what was wrong, because, evidentally,  I had a strange look on my face.

"Byrn, Alda, and Jerome asked me to come with them to the town and get something to eat with them. Man am I glad I already had plans."
