We Ditch The Concussed
*Avis' POV*
Oh my goodness. We are so dead! Well, mainly Jacklyn because she totally just attacked a Kings Ranger, but somehow Brighton and I will be involved.
"I think he's unconscious." Brighton said, coming to his senses. I set down the leather buckets and made my way over to the apprentice, kneeling beside him and examining his head for any wounds. He had a bump on the back of his head. Suddenly he groaned and slowly opened his eyes.
"Careful, you've sustained a blow to the head. No sudden movements or it will make you dizzy." I quickly explained. "What is your name?" I asked him.
"Sam." He said, slightly dazed. He slowly sat up with my help and held his head in his hands. "What happened?" I glanced up at Jacklyn, whose eyes widened and she quickly shook her head.
"Um...there was a thief. He attacked us and you scared him off, but he shoved you before running and you hit your head on a rock." I lied through my teeth. You owe me big time Jacklyn. Sam blinked several times, trying to remember such events.
"I better go tell the others. They'll want to make sure the thief is gone then." He said, kicking into ranger protection mode. I helped him stand and he wobbled for a bit before running back to camp.
"How could you just lie like that?" Brighton asked me. I shrugged.
"I don't know about you, but where we come from, attacking an officer is grounds for arrest." I said. Brighton stared st us in horror.
"You two are unbelievable." He said rolling his eyes. I smiled and nodded.
"And you are totally predictable, which is not a good trait for a future knight of the realm. I would fix that if I was you." I retorted. Brighton blushed and I quickly picked up those leather buckets and we headed back to the campsite. Gilan and Will were heading out as we came in.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"One of the apprentices came back from fetching water and said he had been attacked by a thief. Did you see anything?" Will asked. Jacklyn shook her head.
"He must have been further down stream then us." She quickly replied. They accepted our response and left us to make up camp. I glanced around and noticed half the Corp was gone, heading towards the site. Well crap. This could pose a problem. It was our stupidity against at least twenty five rangers. We are so dead.
"If they figure anything out, it was all Jacklyn's fault, okay?" I said turning to the other two. Brighton nodded in agreement, but Jacklyn glared at me.
"Way to throw me under the bus." She scolded.
"What's a bus?" Brighton asked.
"Not now Brighton. Just think of a stinky death trap with fifty people on it hurtling down streets at unbelievable speeds for you." I said casually. He rose an eyebrow and the three of us began to set up the tents and start a small cook fire under the supervision of Halt. Gilan and Will soon returned and the two of them eyed us suspiciously.
"Avis? Come here." Will called to me. I stood, brushing off my skirt and made my way over to the ranger. Once we were out of hearing range, he turned to me.
"Your lie was sloppy. There was four sets of footprints at the seance and no footprints retreating. Two sets of footprints are smaller then the others, proving that you and Jacklyn were there because no one else has girls shoes." I consciously glance down at my shoes.
"Okay okay! Jacklyn freaked and went ninja on the apprentice and knocked him unconscious. We panicked and Jacklyn pleaded with me not to tell. I knew it was a dumb lie, but I didn't have a lot of time to elaborate exactly the type of fabric our made up thief was wearing!" I spilled. Will smirked.
"Don't worry, I diverted everyone onto a different path. Gilan is suspicious, but you two owe me again. What is this, the third time?" He asked.
"Fourth." I said, shuffling my feet in the ground. He rolled his eyes.
"You better start paying up soon kid, or I'll tell all your little secrets." He threatened.
"Yes sir. Thank you sir." I said, hoping the flattery would work on him. He glared at me.
"As punishment, you and Jacklyn are to stay up with the apprentice all night to make sure he does not have a concussion." He said. At this I grinned, causing him to glance warily at me.
"Yay! Concussions fascinate me. My mom thought I had one once after we got into a car crash, and I was so unbalanced that I had to have my friends help me down the stairs so I didn't fall and kill myself." I rambled happily. Will bit his lip.
"I'm going to assume a 'car' is something from your country." He said. I nodded.
"It's kind of like the truck that Jacklyn appeared in, but a bit different in some aspects." I explained.
"Alright, well make sure to wake him every once in a while to make sure he is still responding..." I nodded.
"I know the drill, Will." I said, internally congratulating myself for making that rhyme. He looked pained as he slowly walked away. I ran back to the camp site and quickly explained every thing to Jacklyn. She was more than less enthusiastic about our long night a head. Will gave me a look that told me to go find Sam, and I dragged Jacklyn with me as we headed off to campsite. He was holding his head in his hands while his master examined his bow.
"Hello. We're here with Ranger Will. He told us that we need to stay up with Sam here to assure everyone he doesn't have a concussion." I said. His master's gaze flickered between the two of us, rising an eyebrow. "I have some medical knowledge and a bit of experience with head trauma." I hurriedly said. This seemed to put his mind at ease and he nodded, not saying a word.
"Let's get you in your bed roll, Sam." Jacklyn said, helping his stand. I could see the guilty look on her face, trying to make up from possibly giving the poor kid a concussion. We helped him into bed and settled down outside the tent.
"We have to wake him about every hour and make sure he is still responding well." I said sitting next to Jacklyn. She glared at me.
"Oooooorrrrr... We go through with my plan." She said. I rose an eyebrow.
"Plan? Dare I ask?" I asked. She smirked.
"Just go with it. Please? Stay here, I'll be back in two shakes of a lambs tail." She said jumping up. I roll my eyes and she runs off out of the light of the campfire.

Jacklyn returned five minutes later with a disgruntled Brighton. She grinned and winked at me before putting on a worried look.
"Please Brighton! It's very important!" She begged. Though I was completely lost, she told me to go along with it, so I mimicked her worried expression.
"Why should I have too! I'm not the one who brained the kid!" Brighton exclaimed. Jacklyn pouted out her lip, making herself look vulnerable.
"I didn't mean to. And it's really important. Just watch him for a little bit and we'll be back soon!" She said. Brighton let out a rather unattractive sigh and nodded. Jacklyn smiled and took my wrist, pulling me up.
"Thank you!" I shouted as we ran off into the woods. As soon as we were out of sight, we stopped running.
"Thank goodness he's so gullible." Jacklyn said. "He'll stay there all night waiting for us." I gave her a disappointed look.
"That's mean." I said. "What are we supposed to do anyway! We can't go back to our sleeping bags or Will will catch us, and we can't go back to Brighton or we'll have to stay up all night. I think concessions and fascinating and all, but I'm tired." Jacklyn grinned.
"I have the perfect opportunity to wake you up." We continued walking until we come across a clearing, filled with rangers horses.
"The rangers will kill us if we mess with their horses." I exclaimed. Jacklyn smiled again.
"Yes, but...We know the passwords to a select few horses. Tell me you aren't itching to ride a rangers horse and feel the ease of riding them?" She said, trying to persuade me. It didn't take much persuading. I immediately caught sight of Blaze in the herd and grinned.
"Jacklyn, I do believe you are a genius."

Hola, ¿como estás? Totally my last day of Spanish class! Ever! My four years of torture are over! Well after my final on Monday that I know I'll fail. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool language, I just can't grasp the concept in my mind so I struggle through. But no more! Any who, enough of that. I hoped you liked it! It was a surprise when Jacklyn wrote of her braining an apprentice so I was as surprised as you and shocked at how I would handle it. I hope I did alright! Love you all so much!
