Ladles And Blackberry Tarts

*Avis' POV*

Ahh! The kitchens. Nothing like the beautiful smell of fresh baked bread. It is a beautiful smell, truly, and if you've never smelt it, I slowly shake my head at you in shame.

"I don't want to work in the kitchens, but I'd love to sneak in here occasionally." Jacklyn hissed at me. I grinned.

"Let's do it. Tonight." I said smirking. Brighton eyed us looking horrified.

"Bad idea. Do you know what Master Chubb does to wards he catches sneaking food?!?" Brighton exclaimed in a hushed tone to the two of us. I give him a sly smile.

"Who says he'll catch us. We're ninjas, Brighton." He looked confused, as I momentarily forgot he probably doesn't know what a ninja is. These people must live under a rock.

The kitchens were very airy, allowing the proper ventilation to air out the room of all the smoke the huge ovens made. The kitchens were on the third story of the castle, making it difficult for anyone to sneak through the window, unless of course you're Will Treaty. I mentally sigh as I think of Will. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a slightly massive crush on him. Forget Alyss, she's nice and all, but...But... I have fangirled to hard over Will to let it all go to waste!

My internal conflict must have shown on my face because Jacklyn raises and eyebrow, I shake my head, telling her I had it handled. No I would never tell her I was irritated with Alyss. Though I did cry in the Royal Ranger. Worst History ever! Why would you make me read something so amazingly heart breaking on Christmas morning!?!

"Master Chubb! Thank you so much for allowing us to visit." Denise said flirtatiously. Okay, ew. Gag me with a spoon. Denise and Chubb!?!

"Anything for you, Denise." I heard Chubb say quietly. Please stop! Spare my innocent mind!!! I give Jacklyn a horrified look, and she is red in the face as she holds in her laughter. As the two adults are distracted, I notice something that particularly interests me. Master Chubbs ladle. Oh this is just too sweet! The ladle was resting atop a wooden table, covered in green herbs that would be included in the dinner. I ease my way over to the table, Jacklyn following me close behind, curious as to what I was up too. I carefully pick the ladle up, quiet as not to disturb Chubb and Denises' intense staring match, creepy, I know. Jacklyn slips her hand over her mouth, holding it tight to not burst out laughing. We head back over to the group, Brighton eyeing us suspiciously. I weave in through the wards, then I reach Arielle, who stood behind Lesley. I slip the ladle into her pocket, causing her to look down at the sudden weight in her pocket. I dash back over to where Brighton and Jacklyn waited for me. Arielle pulled the ladle out, holding it up to examine it. Her eyes widen as she realised what she held, and the value of such item. She glances around in a panic, trying to look for a place to get rid of it. The ladle was legendary, how else do you think I knew about it's worth. If Chubb was a chef in our times, I bet he would have that ladle insured for a million bucks, and it would be a licenced weapon.

Arielle made eye contact with me and I gave her a little wave and smile, causing her eyes to flash with anger. Yay! I just made my first enemy! Jacklyn stood next to me, an evil smirk gracing her mouth.

"Arielle! Put that down!" She hissed, loud enough for Chubb and Denise to hear. Chubb swung around, ready to grab his ladle and brain anyone touching his kitchen. His eyes widened as he noticed his ladle was missing. Frantically looking around the room, his eyes land on Arielle, who looked like a deer in the head lights.

"You! Give that back!" Chubb demanded from her.

"It wasn't, me I swear!" Arielle managed to choke out. Too late, Chubb ripped the ladle from her grip and there was a loud crack as a blow landed across her skull. I unconsciously rub my head, feeling a tiny bit of sympathy. Jacklyn and I share a look before fist bumping. It would have looked weird to anyone looking at us, but at least we understood the meaning of a fist bump.

Tears streaming down her cheeks, Arielle storms past us, glaring. "I will get you for this!" She hissed. She exited the kitchen, leaving behind bewildered wards. Jacklyn and I stifle our laughter before attention was drawn to us.

Chubb showed us around the kitchen, Lesley bouncing on the balls of her feet as she was shown it all. Since Arielle was gone, Lesley joined our little group, and began to talk our ears off about the kitchen. I do suppose we deserve it, since we did get her sister in trouble.

Lesley and Jacklyn walk ahead of Brighton and I as we head towards the Scribe School. "That wasn't very nice." Brighton spoke up, referring to the Arielle incident. I smirked.

"That is called a prank, Brighton. I do admit, I didn't mean for her to get beat with a ladle, that was simply a plus." I said with a slightly skip. He scoffed, shaking his head.

"You're trouble, aren't you?" He asked. I grinned.

"I'd be lying if I said no. But look on the upside, I'm not boring!" I giggled. I leave him to ponder that as I run ahead to join Jacklyn and Lesley.

As I came to a walk beside Jacklyn, I slip into my pocket and pull out a couple of pastries wrapped in cheese cloth. I hold them out to the two girls, and Lesley's eyes light up with joy. Jacklyn's light up with a different kind of joy.

"Practicing for tonight?" She asked. I nodded, taking a bite out of a BlackBerry tart.

"Practice makes perfect." I said. Jacklyn takes another tart and laughed.

"Very true. Now, let's go see what all the excitement of nerds is all about. To scribe school!" She said in a grandiose voice, acting like a superhero. We both laugh as we race ahead of the group, leaving Brighton and Lesley to catch up to us.
