Falling Down The Stairs Has Never Been So Cool Before

*Avis' POV*

I woke up at six the next morning and quickly dressed in warm clothes. I learnt yesterday that England isn't as warm as Nevada. I grabbed my manila folder off the dresser and pulled out the map and the information sheet. I got site one for the first site I would be exploring. I can tell you now I am not disappointed. Site one happens to be castle Redmont. This is the site I have been dying to see since I got the letter announcing the competition. The castle was still pretty intact, besides a few sides having been collapsed. On the map is showed exactly where the castle stood. It was only a few miles from the hotel. Though the map was written in kilometers.

I slipped it back into the folder and put on my shoes, lacing them up before heading out of the room. Josh was pacing the hall, folder in hand. He looked relieved as he saw me emerge from my room.

"Good, you're awake. We're not going to be late again. Punctuality is a virtue." He said checking his watch on his wrist.

"If you were so concerned, you could have knocked on the door to wake me."I retorted. He glared at me and marched up to Jacklyn's door. He held up his fist to knock, when the door opened. Jacklyn looked surprised to see the two of us outside her door, but her surprise soon disappeared to frustration as she looked at Josh. The poor guy will never get anything right. I almost felt bad for him. Almost.

"May I help you?"She asked in a formal voice, closing the door with her pinkie up on the door knob.

"Um...Breakfast is down stairs. John will be waiting for us." He said hesitantly. Jacklyn stuck her chin in the air.

"Very well. Thank you, Peasant." I couldn't help but grin as Josh's face slowly turned red, all the way up to his black hair. I wouldn't be surprised if his teeth were blushing. Is that possible...? Jacklyn turned to me and held out her arm. "Come, Lady Avis. We have scrambled eggs and toast to digest." I laugh and take her arm, holding my head up high.

"Of course, Lady Jacklyn. As disgusting as you put that, it still sounds good since I am simply famished." We continued down the hall, leaving a bewildered Josh behind us to take the elevator. Once we were in the stair well, we burst out laughing.

"His face!" Jacklyn managed to gasp out between laughs. I had to hold the wall so I wouldn't fall. I could tell my face was red from laughter.

"Poor kid! We're so mean!" I said. Jacklyn rolled her eyes.

"Well maybe this'll teach him not to mess with us."

"He diffidently has a "Holier then thou" kind of attitude." I said scoffing. Jacklyn nodded in agreement.

"I guess we could give him a break. I suppose people from Texas are hard to handle, even for a New-Yorker." Jacklyn said. I shook my head.

"He'll shape up. If he tries to mess with me again I'll show him who's boss. Nevadan's don't take crap from other people." I said. Jacklyn nodded again.

"We probably are difficult to deal with." She said. I smiled.

"Good. Now let's go eat. I wasn't kidding when I said I was famished." I joked. Jacklyn grinned.

"The quest is a simple one, Lady Avis, but first, we must conquer..."She paused for a dramatic effect. "The stairs!" I let out a mock gasp and placed my hand over my heart.

"Not the stairs! How ever will we manage?" I said, fanning myself with my hands as I spoke in a fake British accent.

"Oh but we shall, one step at a time and we will be closer to our destination." Jacklyn said. I stuck my foot out, being dramatic as I slowly stepped down. Jacklyn followed my example. It ended up taking us a good ten minutes just to get down the stairs. Josh and John were eyeing us curiously as we entered the dining room with fake tears and flushed faces.

"WE HAVE ARRIVED!" I announced.

John rose an eyebrow.

"I noticed." He said slowly. Josh held his head in his hands.

"You guys are an embarrassment." Josh hissed.

"Oh are we?" Jacklyn asked. I slid my chair next to his, as close as I could get and put the palm of my hand under my chin, fluttering my eyes in his direction.

"Jacklyn, just how embarrassing do you think we are?" I asked innocently. Jacklyn smirked.

"I don't know. Ask Josh." I slowly leaned in, my face getting closer and closer to him, causing him to lean back. He ended up falling out of his chair, landing hard on the floor to avoid me. Mission accomplished. He glared up at me as I slid into his chair, taking over his seat and eating his food.

"Very embarrassing." He murmured. I smirked at him and proceeded to eat his toast. Josh grumbled as he stood, grabbing another plate and filling it with food. He took over my seat and refused to look at me as we ate.

"Alright, enough of this. You've had your fun. Now onto the work." John said, pushing back his chair.

"You mean, now onto even more fun?" Jacklyn asked.

"Yes, Jacklyn. Precisely." He laughed. We all headed out to the cars. We each got our own Chevy truck, 2020 or whatever Jacklyn keeps blabbing on about. I think she likes cars....

"Each of you will get a car to drive to your assigned site. I'll be with Josh today, so you girls be good." John said. Is now a good time to tell him I'm not allowed to drive legally? I've only ever driven around the small ranch we own, and usually I scare the crap out of the cows because I tend to stop to close to the fence. They think I'll crash...pfft! Those cows have no trust!

"We'll be good! Girl scouts honor!" Jacklyn said holding her hand to her heart. John smiled and nodded, climbing into the truck and taking off with Josh. Once they were gone, I glanced at Jacklyn.

"Girls Scout? Really?" I asked.

"What? I have to say something to make him believe me!" She insisted. I rolled my eyes and climbed into the truck.

"See you later! If I don't kill myself first driving this truck." I said grinning. I started it up and put it into drive, accidentally taking my foot off the brake so it started to roll down the small slope. I slammed on the brake and gave Jacklyn a guilty smile. She gave me a thumbs up and headed to her own car. I began again, going about five miles per hour the whole way there. Three people passed me, honking there horns and flipping me off as they passed. I'd simply wave, being the better person. Some people are just so rude!

When I finally arrived, I was in awe at the sight of the massive castle. Most of it was in ruins, but it still stood proud on the red hill. I parked in my designated area and got out, making sure I grabbed my iphone. I never went any where without it. I slipped it in my pocket and stepped out of the car. It took me all my might not to skip up the hill to the site. A stiff looking women in scraggly clothes and a pony tail approached me.

"You Avis Knight?" She asked, smacking her gum as she chewed. Huh, an American?

"Yup!" I said excitedly, popping the 'P' as I said it. She rolled her eyes.

"Come with me, kid." She said irritably. Would it kill her to have a some manners? Does she even know who I am? If she did she wouldn't speak to me like that because I am Avis Knight! And I have absolutely no authority what so ever so it's perfectly reasonable that she'd speak to me like that! Gosh! Some people...

She led me up the hill where I joined a team of archaeologists.

"Today we have a special guest. Avis has joined us all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada!" The dude up front said. I glared at him.

"Um...Reno, actually." I said.

"But that's close to Las Vegas." He told the team. I glared at him once again. Whatever. Even if Las Vegas is nine hours away from where I live and I've never actually been, I'll let him have this one since he seemed set on telling everyone I'm from Vegas.

"May we start?" The American Woman asked.

"Yes! I shall take you down to what we believe is the armory. They would have kept their armor here." He said. I rolled my eyes. No duh! We all walked down the steps that were almost worn away. They were so rounded, that I slipped, sliding down the stairs and landing on a hard wood floor.

"Ouch!" I groaned.

"Are you alright, miss?" A hand was offered to help me up. I grabbed the hand as he pulled me to my feet. I shook my head to clear my vision. I noticed that I was no longer in the ruins. I was in a crowded room, bustling with activity. It looked like a restaurant almost. I glanced at the man, whose hand I was still gripping tightly. He had unruly brown hair and sparkling brown eyes, that were filled with excitement. He wore a green-grey mottled cloak that fell at his knees, and had a double scabbard at his belt, that held two deadly looking knives. I gasped, feeling slightly feint.

"Where am I?" I asked.

"Redmont fief, Miss. My name is Ranger Will Treaty. What is yours?" I felt ready to puke. This must be a dream! I'm holding the hand of Will freakin Treaty! Before I could tell him my name, my phone went off, blasting my ringtone, which happened to be the song Apple Bottom Jeans By Flo Rida.
