. . .

Laxus could easily recall that day as if it had happened yesterday, not fully understanding any of it until now. Now knowing fully why his grandfather- Master Makarov- didn't tell him the real reason why he excommunicated his dad, Ivan.

He sometimes wondered how Makarov would have possibly explained to him that the only reason his father had implanted a Dragon Lacrima in him was so that he could later on harvest its power and sell it later on in his life, only to end up killing him- Laxus- once it was done. Only if he wanted to Laxus to not trust him or anyone else anymore. But the damage had already been done.

But that was just the start, the start of what made him rebel against everything he was given and ignore all of his Master Makarov's warnings. After all, his dad never seemed to care for him, he never even knew his mom and had no sense of parental guidance throughout most of his life, no love and comfort that he craved to have for so many years. No stability, nothing at all; the days where he reacted out of emotions and not whether it was right or wrong.

Growing up for him was hard, he knew the guild would always offer him a place to stay, after all, he was the Master Makarov's grandson after all; but sometimes, even at his darkest hours, Laxus had willingly stayed with his father even if it had sometimes not been so welcoming.

Of course, there had been some exceptions, sometimes it was too much for him to handle and he found himself most of the time walking back to the guild alone on a bitterly cold night, maybe, if he was lucky it wouldn't be cold but instead be the crack of dawn, but no matter what the time was he'd always walk there alone. If it was cold, he'd grab himself a jacket if he had enough time too, sometimes he didn't; but before the jacket was even considered he'd grab bandages he had stored in his room and leave with whatever he could.

Most of the time on those cold nights Laxus had only managed to get the bandages and not the jacket or coat, but either way, he would bandage himself up and make his way to the guild jacket or not. And when he had made it to the guild, cold or not he'd get concerned looks from whoever was there, but he ignored them making his way to Makarov's office to warm up by the fireplace that was in there, or to just stay there in general. But that was just the beginning of his problems.

Because even with the dragon lacrima he was given by his father he had still occasionally gotten sick, and when he did it was torturous.

Since the power, he was gifted with was extremely powerful, sometimes too much for him to handle, as a child he had never properly got the training he needed to know how to properly control the amount of power; this had always greatly affected him, it still did to this day.

Since he had never been able to properly learn how to expel his power he had frequently found himself sometimes, unintentionally discharge large amounts of lightning all around him, never being able to properly control it as much as he wanted to. All he could find himself being able to do is to just let it take its course even with how much pain it had caused him letting it do so.

When it was all over Laxus would fall to the ground and curled up in on himself in too much pain for him to handle, tears burning in the corner of his eyes. It had hurt so much, his dad told him it wouldn't hurt but if it didn't, then why did it?

It had always continued in a cycle like that, never changing in any way, whether it be shape or form. All of his energy/magic would be drained relentlessly from him and he'd collapse on the ground, always too weak to get up and not willing to risk the chance of it starting up again which would only bring back floods of pain and exhaustion into his system. Those fits were always the worst, especially when they happened when he was in or near the guild, he didn't want anyone to see him like that.

Laxus was able to vividly remember instances where he had disobeyed his grandfather's order and explore the forest his grandfather had told him not to, only to suddenly find himself screaming in pain as lighting was uncontrollably emitted from his body. Soon enough, once it was over finding himself collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath that the exhaustion and screaming had taken away from him. However, those instances always had two different ways of ending, yet they both started the same way.

They stared with him discharging enough lighting to where he was on the ground, letting the exhaustion take hold of him and fall asleep. But then, they started to differ in the ways they ended, he'd stir slightly awake to see one of the adults from the guild, hurriedly but carefully carrying him back to the guild; one time, it had been Gildarts, he was glad that he got to see him even is he most likely wouldn't be there when he woke back up.

But at other times it would have been a child or one of the new-comers of the guild yelling for help from one of the adults for help, they had always seemed so distressed about it. Yet, he had always wondered how exactly they had found him.

But things never ended smoothly like that, since his burst of lighting had started happening and he was always found somewhere outside of the guild, only to leave with an adult if he wanted to go somewhere. Surprisingly, it didn't work.

Laxus wasn't exactly sure how he hadn't recognized since it was all there, maybe he had been distracted but he wasn't ever so sure about it in the first place. The familiar buzzing of something like lightning grew in his chest until he had realized that it was happening again, but it was far too late for him to try and run away from it or the guild when he had noticed the feeling. Lightning had started to spark around his body, quickly but surely, letting out powerful burst after burst never stopping until it was all gone from his system.

He had let out a scream of pain and he tightly gripped at the sleeves of his shirt, shutting his eyes closed and ignoring the tears that had started to stream down his cheek. All the lightning- the energy- that had built up inside of him without him knowing- not being able to properly dispel since he didn't know how- swiftly leaving his system as he collapsed to side, out of breath and in pain, curling up on himself more until exhaustion quickly took hold of him and he fell asleep.

As a child he had never known how to properly handle the power, it was just too much a child to handle. The guild was even concerned since this wasn't a thing that a regular occurrence with mages, it never had been. He had remembered waking up on a bed in the infirmary, his grandfather most likely wanting to talk to him, no doubt he was waiting outside of the infirmary to do so.

They were all clearly worried for him, but he didn't blame them, he was worried for himself too.

But as time had gone on, he had finally been able to get a good grip on his power, being able to properly dispel the correct amount of power so that the fits of lightning was a rare occurrence, it could still happen but he had managed it. Of course, being able to control it was never enough for his father.

Along with the fact that the placement of his lacrima- which was where his right eye was- had messed up his sight in both eyes, not enough to blind him but enough to where he'd either need contacts or glasses. Laxus had told his father about it but he didn't care, brushing it off as if it was nothing. Later on in life, he ended up saving enough to afford contacts, having glasses but never using them until he was all alone or couldn't use his contacts anymore.

At least that was one of the problems he could have solved by himself. Even with everything, he always wondered if he had ever meant anything to his father, he probably didn't and that was the cruel answer he had accepted to be true.
