Q and A: March 2020
You guys asked, and I'm answering. I got a wide assortment this time, which is interesting.
Questions have been shuffled so that no one has two questions answered back-to-back.
Thoughts are welcomed down below.

Favorite sports to watch?
Softball, baseball, football (college and NFL), and basketball. I also watch horse races but only the Triple Crown races.
What is your least favorite thing about college?
Honestly, I'm not sure. Probably that classes keep getting canceled on me. The professors have been ones I know, and have been available to teach the course. The administration wants so many students in the class, though, and if there aren't enough then they'll cancel even if the professor is able to teach. It sucks because now I need a bunch of specific, upper-level classes, and if I can't take enough of them per semester, it'll mess with my long term plans.
Favorite fast food place?
Chick-fil-A.
How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?
I'm on board with this. If I'm ordering a pizza for myself, I almost always include pineapple as one of the toppings.
What do you think about the coronavirus?
I'm not super panicked, which is surprising since I'm a bit of a germophobe.
I do get annoyed with the people who refuse to take it seriously. I get it, everybody's lives are being impacted and it's not cool. But, in the long term, there are worse things than having your spring break canceled.
We need to be aware that not everyone can fight this crap off if they catch it. We've got protocol for a reason. I do think workers need to be taken care of if they end up being forced out of work, because that could harm a lot of people and their families if they don't have a way to make an income.
Supernatural or The Office?
Supernatural. I've never watched The Office.
I know you went through some mental health issues this summer. Were/are you taking any meds and if so what was that like?
I don't know if I'm really allowed to mention the ones I took, because I don't want to alter people's opinions of specific medications.
I did take an antidepressant/anti anxiety medication for over a year. Never again, at least for that medication. I gained forty pounds in three months, and that's another battle altogether.
I'm still taking a medication for nightmares related to some mild PTSD from being in a tornado as a kid. That med is a really good one for me, and improved my sleep a lot after I started it. It's not caused any problems, so that's nice.
Do you think you get put in a box by your readers?
Yes. Someone told me once that they know what I write.
I found it interesting. Do you know everything that I write? I started thinking about it and realized that my most popular books do give an impression. They're primarily sci-fi and fantasy. People assume that all my books relate to either supernatural occurrences or sci-fi related topics.
This may be all some of you know me for. I do, however, write a lot of poetry as well. Off Wattpad, I write a bit of realistic fiction, and some of that is now moving into my Wattpad life. I'm also going to post a fantasy novel that is a different sub genre of fantasy, and does not deal with supernatural events or powers.
I think, to an extent, it's okay to let readers put you in that box, but it's important to know that you still have the freeedom to step out of it whenever you want to.
Have you ever got a cavity?
Yep. Up until I was twenty, I had never gotten a cavity. I'd had a crack filled, but that's it.
Somewhere in between my last two cleanings, I got eighteen cavities. You got it, eighteen. I've had four filled, and am in the process of trying to understand how in the world that happened. I'm all over my dental health so it's a mystery to me.
Favorite Netflix shows?
Atypical, Greenhouse Academy, The Umbrella Academy, Supernatural, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Most outrageous story you've heard about a professor/teacher?
One of my professors cheated on his wife, married the woman he cheated with, then cheated on that woman with someone else. He's no longer at our university, and honestly I don't miss him.
Can you explain what happened a few weeks ago with your covers, and explain why you don't like other people's names on them?
Wattpad writers are out here busting our butts to prove we aren't amateurs.
With that being said, in the world of published books, cover artists don't usually stick their names on the covers. They're credited someplace else.
The designer I was talking to on here placed her name on my cover. She'd known me for a very long time, and knew that I give credit. People kept asking me if she was a co-author, if she was connected to my novels, and on and on. I explained to her how I felt, and she took issue with that.
Where did you get the names of the main characters in Safe Haven?
Reese is probably the more obvious of the main characters' names. There's not really a story behind her name. It's popular for the age group she fits into, and I liked the sound of it.
Most people have figured out the significance of the title and that one of my characters' names is associated with it.
Haven's name was chosen for its meaning. I have known the word's meaning for a long time, and saw it in a book series where it was used as a name. Once I decided that it worked as a given name, I decided it would fit the character in my book.
Crazily enough, after I picked the name, I have actually met a couple people who go by this. For one, it's a given name, and the other picked it as a pen name.
Your character Merryn from IHG? Will she be in any of your actual books?
I'm willing to bet that most people have never heard of this character before.
She's a character from someone's interactive Hunger Games book and yes, she'll appear in one of my future books.
The version of her that appears in my original universe is quite different from the version seen in that interactive book.
Will Resistive be like 2050?
Not really. The general idea is similar, but the settings are very different.
How does it feel to be 21?
It feels the same as being twenty, only now I can drink legally if I want. Birthdays get boring once you hit your teens, guys.
