Ciel Phantomhive x Reader (High school AU)
Requested by: RoseLyrics :)
Another class began - to Ciel it was another boring hour of putting up with imbeciles and dumb people. This high school was the most boring place ever and he felt even more agitated.
Sighing, he turned his head to look outside the window next to his seat. A bed of lush green grass littered with light pink flowers and fallen autumn leaves could be seen. A gentle wind - he presumed - was making the flowers and tree leaves sway. He couldn't wait to go outside and sit under that tree and be left alone with his thoughts.
People were annoying. Interacting with them was even more annoying. (social interactions are scary ;-;)
Why did 99.9% of the human population piss him off?
A sweet sound - the laugh of (Y/N) (L/N) - pulled him out of this thoughts. Oddly enough, he had grown to like the sound of her voice and her laugh.
(Y/N) (L/N) was part of the 0.1% of the human population which Ciel did not dislike. She was funny, intelligent, charming and had a nice way of looking at life. Ciel would have liked to befriend her, had it not been so mentally draining.
Flashback:
"Ciel, right?"
He nodded, his cheeks slightly pink from shock/embarrassment.
"Do you want to hang out with me during lunch? You're always sitting alone.."
"No, I'm fine."
"Please, Ciel?"
"Alright, if you insist."
She smiled at him, and for the first time he realised that (Y/N) (L/N) had a really beautiful smile.
He had sat with her during lunch, and thankfully her circle of friends hadn't joined them. Ciel would have found it too much to talk to so many people at once.
After having talked to her, he had come to the conclusion that (Y/N) was a very interesting person. There was a lot more to her than which met the eye.
If he could talk her to more everyday, then maybe, coming to this terrible highschool wouldn't be so bad.
*end of flashback.*
That time he had sat with her during lunch was about two months ago. A lot had changed since then. She had gotten into a relationship with Alois Trancy - the person Ciel despised the most. And everything went downhill from there.
Ciel, strangely enough, had grown attached to (Y/N) during the two or three weeks they had sat together at lunch. Oblivious to his feelings, he didn't quite understand why those jittery butterflies appeared in his stomach whenever (e/c) eyes locked with his, whenever her hands touched his or whenever she smiled at him. It was all new to him.
Hence, he had been clueless as ever when he felt as if someone had stabbed him in the gut when he saw (Y/N) walk hand-in-hand with Alois to the classroom. Ciel had clenched his fists and narrowed his eyes at the new couple.
He had not approved of that couple a month ago and he still did not. Call it jealousy or whatever, (Y/N) deserved better - better meant Ciel Phantomhive.
Ciel liked her. A lot.
He pulled out his notebook, and began to write a short poem on his life, since the teacher made no intention of coming to class.
Immersed in his poetry, he didn't notice the tap on his shoulder. He almost jumped out of his seat when he felt someone clear their throat next to him. Eyes wide, he hid his notebook and prepared himself to give that person a sharp look.
Unintentionally, his eyes softened, when he found (Y/N) looking at him with sad eyes.
"Ciel?" (Y/N) softly murmured. "How have you been?"
"I'm alright," a short curt reply, emotionless and in a monotone.
She hesitated for a moment, but then pulled out a chair next to his and sat down, "Could we please talk?"
Ciel quirked an eyebrow at her request, almost muttering a no, but the sad look in her eyes made him nod.
She looked down for a second. Beautiful (e/c) eyes looked with his own, trapping him a trance, "Hear me out, please?"
"Go on."
"Look, I have no idea what I did wrong, and if I even did anything wrong. But still I'm sorry. I miss talking with you at lunch and our conversations as well. You're a really interesting person to have conversations with, Ciel. Why are you ignoring me?"
Ciel was shocked by how much she missed him, "I'm not ignoring you."
She laughed, bitterly, "Tell me, please."
"I haven't been ignoring you, (Y/N)."
"Ciel, please?"
Ciel almost wanted to blurt out how envious he felt of Alois, how he liked (Y/N)'s smile a lot and how she made him happy and how she was his very own ray of sunshine.
But he didn't.
Because he couldn't.
"Because I don't miss you."
Those five words cut through the air around them, and pierced (Y/N)'s heart. Ciel understood the impact of his words when he saw those beautiful eyes of hers fill up with tears.
(Y/N) gulped down a sob, his words tearing her apart, inch by inch.
Ciel did not miss her? Not one bit?
(Y/N) was slowly dying from the inside.
She missed Ciel a lot.
"Oh?" (Y/N) chuckled bitterly. "I just wanted to tell you that I missed you. Bye."
Ciel watched as the only girl he liked got up, wiping at her eyes and left.
"Wait!" Ciel's voice was small and weak. He wanted to scream and embrace her.
Tell her he liked her.
But he couldn't muster up the courage to do so.

(Y/N) lay awake in bed that night, the tears never leaving her eyes. Her father had forced her into a relationship with Alois. She did not like him one bit. The only boy she liked did not like her back. He did not even miss her. "I love you, Ciel."
Ciel sat at his desk, annoyed and irritated at himself. The tearful look in (Y/N)'s eyes never leaving his mind.
He had hurt his (Y/N). He chuckled at himself. Was she even remotely his? Did he have a right to call her his?
♡ the next day ♡
Two people, oblivious to the other's feelings towards themselves, walked into the classroom. A (h/c) haired girl and a blue eyed boy.
Sometime later, two couples left the classroom, seemingly happy smiles on their lips. A (e/c) eyed girl and a boy named Alois, had arms around each other. And a certain blue eyed male with a girl named Elizabeth.
Some things were never meant to be.
(Y/N) fell asleep that night, thinking that Ciel did not harbour any feelings towards her.
Ciel stayed awake wondering how Alois could keep his (Y/N) happy.
Both of them still clueless to the fact that the smiles they'd seen on each other's faces were false.
~~~~
"I love you, Ciel," (Y/N) had murmured to him, her soft voice sending chills through him. He had tenderly cupped her cheek, ready to whisper those divine words back, but he was woken up. A dream, it had been. And would always be.
~~~~
"I love you, (Y/N)," Ciel had whispered, his lips hovering over her own. His warm breath fanned her face, and she felt her heart rate going insane. Just as his lips touched hers, she jolted awake.
It was everything but reality.
