Chaol Westfall x Reader (AU)

Requested by: BrokenShadow99 :)

-This is an AU where the reader is a princess and Chaol is her guard.-

"GO AWAY!" (Y/N) screamed at yet another suitor.

"But, M'lady!" The man bowed, "I love you!"

"No you don't." She shook her head at him, "We don't even know each other!"

"But you have to marry me!"

"No."

"Please!" He exclaimed, kissing her hand.

(Y/N) was fuming by now. Angrily, she retracted her hand, glaring at the suitor.

"CHAAAOOOL!"

"Why are you calling him, Lady (Y/N), when you have me?"

Chaol Westfall walked into the court, and bowed. He locked his eyes with (Y/N)'s and she silently begged him to take the suitor away.

"Leave." Chaol ordered, calmly.

"You can't order me!"

Chaol walked to the suitor and gave him an unamused look.

"Leave peacefully or I will have to use force." To prove his point, Chaol unsheathed his sword.

Immediately, the suitor backed away, eyes wide and ran out of the court.

"Thanks." (Y/N) smiled at her best friend and also her guard.

"Turned down another one?" Chaol asked, his chocolate-brown eyes twinkling with amusement.

"Don't even get me started."

"Was he that bad?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Bad? He was terrible! Started kissing my arm and hugging me! Like, I need my space and I-"

"But you have to pick a guy, sooner or later." Chaol cut (Y/N) off, as if scolding a little girl.

"But none of them are okay for me!"

"(Y/N)." He said, putting his hands on her shoulders, making her heart flutter and butterflies form in her stomach, "You know that it's best for you."

"But-"

"Shh." He put his hand over her mouth, making her heart go in overdrive, "Tomorrow a prince from nearby is coming. I've met him and he was nice. I believe that he'll be a good match for you."

(Y/N) stared at Chaol sadly, as he continued, "I suggested him to your father and he agreed. So, well, I hope you don't disappoint."

(Y/N) pulled his hand away from her mouth, and felt utterly betrayed. "NOW YOU TOO, CHAOL?"

He seemed shocked by her outburst, "I only did what's best for you."

"Don't give me that shit, Chaol. You are my best friend and now you're dragging me into the suitors and marriage issue?"

He looked taken aback, "(Y/N)."

"Don't you (Y/N) me, Westfall! I'm tired of this suitor crap. Why do I need to meet random creepy guys everyday when I already have an ideal?"

Something flashed in his eyes at that but it was gone as soon as it came.
"Tell your father about who that ideal is, get married to him, be happy and I'll be tranquil knowing that I did my job of keeping you company well." He smiled, pulling (Y/N) in for a hug.

Very soon he let go and left the court, leaving a confused, yet sad (Y/N) alone.

*Time skip*

She stood in front of her father, her heart beating rapidly and her palms sweaty. The massive pale walls of the court looked down on her and her parents seemed just as anxious as her.
Chaol stood behind the family, his head hung low and a sad smile on his face. Locking eyes with him, (Y/N) felt even more discouraged.

"Who do you want to marry, Sweetie?" Her mother, the Queen asked, a soft smile on her lips.

(Y/N) looked away, trying to form the words on her lips.

"It's alright." The King encouraged, patting her on the back.

"I want to marry.. Chaol."

The whole room fell silent. The King and Queen looked at her eyes wide and Chaol stared at her, mouth agape. He looked incredulous.

The response to her confession by Chaol and her parents was highly discouraging but she continued nonetheless, "He is my best friend, he knows me better than anyone else and I can guarantee that he is the only one who can keep me happy."

"I have an objection, Your Highness!" Chaol stated, walking over to where she stood, "I am her guard. Please make her marry some Prince."

(Y/N) stared at Chaol, her heart shattering. Did he just reject her?

"I only want my daughter's happiness, Chaol. We broke the royal only marries royal tradition a few generations ago. If she wants you to marry her, what objection do you have?" The King said, giving Chaol an angry look.

"No it isn't that I don't want to marry her, Your Majesty. I really do love your daughter a lot and want what's best for her."

A huge blush covered (Y/N)'s cheeks and she turned to Chaol, her eyes wide.

"I'm afraid that I might not be able to keep her happy, Your Majesty."

"Nonsense!" The King exclaimed, a smile on his face.

"She literally only smiles when you're with her." The Queen added.

Chaol looked at (Y/N) not believing what was happening. All these years he suppressed his feelings due to the fact that he would never be able to have her. But now?

"I love (Y/N), Your Majesty." Chaol replied, his eyes sincere and his voice confident.

"I love you too, Chaol." She grinned, grabbing Chaol's hand.

"You have to keep her happy." The King ordered.

"I'll try my best to do so." Chaol replied, bowing.

-----

As soon as (Y/N) and Chaol were out of sight of the King and Queen, she jumped into his arms, a goofy grin on her beautiful face.

Pulling away, she gently kissed his cheek, contented with life.
