Justice League Imagine
BACKGROUND: Above is something I found on Instagram (originally from Tumblr) and I wanted to continue it to see how they'd react and how things would go down, so here you go!
Also, yes I did use this prompt for a Marvel related imagine, so if you want you can check out Danger Scale in Avengers Imagines to compare (Yes I'm self promoting. Don't come after me).
My Continuation:
What was I supposed to do with this information? I knew the secret identities of the Justice League; all but a couple new faces I had not seen before. But I knew that my supposedly shy coworker was actually the Superman. The reclusive billionaire was actually the Batman. The model looking woman was actually the Wonder Woman. The little kid who came in one day was actually the Robin. And all of this information made me even more dangerous than before.
I sat on my couch and stared at the television as it was covering the new heroes and the inky black numbers stared back at me. Am I supposed to tell Clark I knew his secret? Or would I end up in a bad situation if he knew that I knew? This was stressful.
~~
The next day I knew I couldn't just sit around and skip work. Against my wishes, I got dressed and ready for work at the Daily Planet. I had to try my very best to act normal around him even though I knew...god I just HAD to watch the news at the exact moment they were on the screen.
Once I got to work I couldn't really keep my nerves under wraps and was shaking almost violently as I walked to my desk. Of course it was close to Clark's. I don't know if I'd be able to keep it cool if he tried to talk to me. Oh my god I think I was going to have a panic attack. Oh no oh no. My head was in my hands and I stared at my desk. Everything in my head was jumbled and thoughts fired around. This wasn't going well.
"Hey, Emily, you okay?" I jumped at the voice that was suddenly in front of me and my head shot up from my hands. Clark stood there with a concerned look on his face.
My body shook and I couldn't think of anything to say. Clark's worry only grew as I sat there without making any noise. "I- uhm- yeah yep I'm all good," I stumbled out. Clark wasn't convinced so to avoid more questions I grabbed a random stack of papers from the desk and got up. "I have to go to the fax machine!" I accidentally yelled and almost ran to the other room with the papers.
For the rest of the day I awkwardly avoided Clark by coming up with the worst excuses all day long, finally using "bathroom" late in the day. Each excuse sounded flimsy and very fake, which they were, but I hadn't really intended on Clark figuring it out. Wait, can Superman read minds? I shook my head and sighed. Now I was back at my desk trying to get some sort of work in, but I spent every other second wildly looking around for any sign of Clark.
I looked at the time on my watch and yelled in victory in my head. It was close enough to quittin' time that it wouldn't be shady if I left early. I gathered up all of my belongings (including an extra stack of papers I copied as an excuse) and started to walk out towards the elevator. So far everything seemed to be working out great; no Clark Kent in sight. Maybe I could escape without seeing him for the rest of the day.
Or course I didn't have that kind of good luck.
I stepped into the elevator and Clark ended up getting in behind me. "Hey Emily," he said with a quick nod. I tried to smile back and then just stared at the floor. To make matters worse, we were now the only two people in this elevator. "You've been acting weird today. Is everything okay?" he asked. I looked at him and froze.
To anyone else Clark Kent looked like a sweet, normal, innocent man. He just looked like that. I wish that's all I saw him as, but the numbers over his head were almost yelling in my face saying: HE IS DANGEROUS.
"I-I'm- I'm good. Thanks for uh asking...though," I said and looked back to the floor. I just needed him to drop the conversation and let both of us move on with our lives.
Clark knew something was very off. For starters, he could hear her heartbeat going crazy fast: at least 160 BPM. There was something obviously making her nervous and Clark really just wanted to figure out what it was. Emily had been a great coworker since he started to work at the Daily Planet, and had acted a bit weird at random moments but it was never this bad. Something was really messing her up.
"Look, Emily, I know something is up. You've been acting really weird all day and I just want to make sure you're alright," he said. I moved my head to look up into his eyes and he gave me one of the most genuine smiles I had ever seen. Clark really was a great guy and it pained me to be scared around him. But with the knowledge of his secret identity, my rating went up too, so nothing here was okay. Everything was weird. "I just want to help out if I can."
I took in a breath and mustered up the nicest smile I could. "I'm alright thanks C-Clark. Just had a bad night of sleep last night." That was a terrible lie.
"Okay she is definitely lying about something here," Clark thought.
I quickly looked straight in front of me and ignored the piercing gaze of Clark Kent at my side. I honestly thought he was trying to use his special heat-ray-vision on me or something.
Timing could not be better when the elevator doors finally opened on the ground floor. "Bye Clark," I said and practically ran out of the elevator. I made my way across the lobby while also returning every goodnight I got from other people around. The doors were in sight and even though I knew Clark was right behind me I felt as though I could be free from his questioning gaze and prying questions. I shoved the doors open and tripped as I walked out, stumbling into a person on the other side of the door.
A few of the person's belongings had fallen to the ground so I leaned down to pick them up. "I am so sorry about that!" I exclaimed. My cheeks reddened as I started picking the things up from the ground. The other person crouched down to pick things up as well. I could tell now that they were a he, but I still hadn't taken a look at his face.
He sucked in a breath to talk when another voice behind me chimed in. "Mr. Wayne, what a surprise to see you here." It was Clark, and I was currently helping Batman pick his things up that I made him drop.
Shit.
I picked it all up faster and practically shoved it into his hands. "Sorry again," I said very rushed and left the area quickly. The end of the block was in sight and I finally felt free (those words sound familiar). I was almost to the turn when suddenly, my feet were no longer on the ground.
Everything I previously had in my hands was now floating down to the ground after I dropped it all in a panic. Now I really hoped it was Clark. But like I said, my luck was apparently shit-tastic today and instead I saw a very menacing person-thing carrying my by the shoulders with it's strange feet up higher and higher into the sky. Now it was time to panic.
I screamed with everything I had. I put all of the energy I could possibly muster into my screaming, hoping- begging that Superman would fly up and save me. At my screaming, the creature grabbed one of my arms and pulled me up so we were face-to-face. That was when I saw the strange bird-like mask and I could barely see some eyes behind the mask.
Before I could focus too much on his mask/face, I was suddenly falling. He had let me go and now I was plummeting to my death after being brought up at least 1,000 feet into the sky. The air rushed past me as I flung around, the screams getting lost to the billowing wind rushing past me. My eyes were wide and watering as I looked at the fast approaching ground. This was how I'd die.
"Emily!" The voice sounded very familiar and pretty close. That's when I saw the Man of Steel fly towards me and grab me from the air. Everything in my body lurched at the sudden stop from going down, and now the two of us were flying towards a building rooftop. Superman very carefully set me down on the ground. He cleared his throat and said, "Are you alright?" His voice sounded weirdly deeper. It clicked that he was trying to throw me off of his slip-up earlier when he yelled my name and the possibility that I'd recognized his voice.
I nodded my head and looked him right in the eye. He shifted weirdly under my gaze. "Don't you have a villain to catch?" I asked him.
He shook his head. "Batman is taking care of it with some help from other heroes we called upon quickly." I nodded and crossed my arms over my stomach, since I had nothing better to do. "Well, I should get you down now so you can get home-"
"Don't lie to me anymore," I rushed out. The sentence shocked both of us, as I had no expected my mouth to betray my mind like that. But the phrase had been spoken, so I had to build off of it. "I know who you are, Clark."
Clark was really confused now, but it was sort of an angry confused. "How did you know?" he asked me, not even attempting to go down the path of denial. "How do you know who I am? How long have you known?"
"I found out last night. I know about all of your secret identities." I didn't need to specify who I was talking about. "That's why I was dodging you all day today. Because I have no idea what the hell to do with this information."
He took a second of silence to get his thoughts put back together. "How did you find out?" he asked again, desperate to understand the answer.
I was dreading this part. I really didn't want to explain to fucking Superman that I had secret powers of my own, but I didn't see any other options at this point. Well, I could jump off the building, but he'd just fly after me and grab me, so that was a no.
Taking in a deep breath, I readied myself for giving away my biggest secret and looked to the ground to tell it; I couldn't look into someone else's eyes while I did this. "I have these sort of...abilities- powers, if you will. They allow me to see how dangerous a person is from a scale of 1 to 10. A baby scores a 1 while a soldier with a firearm could get a 7. The first day I saw you, you had a 10 floating above your head. As time went on and I met more of your friends like Diana Prince, Bruce Wayne, and that little kid, I saw all of your numbers and was sure my powers were broken.
"But last night when I was watching the news, I saw the Justice League on the screen and everything suddenly made sense. The numbers I saw over your civilian personalities matched your superhero ones. When I looked at your faces too I was shocked no one had noticed before." I looked into Clark's eyes. "I looked in the mirror and saw my own rating move from a 3 to a 9 once all the pieces fit together."
Clark sat and took all of this in. It was silent, then, "Are you on our side?"
There was no hesitation with your response. "Of course. 100 percent. No question about it."
