Title: The Raindrop Gift
Word count: 1052

The cat let out a slight hiss as a raindrop fell on it. It shook its fur, and hopped off the porch railing, running underneath the rocking chair for protection.

The young female laughed and bent down, picking up the furry creature. "What's wrong, Haku?" She asked softly. A drop of liquid then slipped from the sky onto her nose. She looked up at the sky and wrinkled her nose, her face scrunching up. "Oh." She muttered. "No worry, dear. I'll put you in." She told her feline, pushing the front door open.
She walked in, holding the soft cat. She closed the door, and walked into the kitchen. She placed Haku down onto the ground and opened the pantry door, "hmm.. Ah!" She gasped happily, grabbing the can of tuna for her beloved feline.

The Munchkin Siamese mix yowled happily as his tail swished in excitement. The female giggled happily, before looking up. The sound of the rain pattered against the roof. She frowned, then smiled. She walked over to a drawer, and pulled out a can opener. As she opened it, Haku impatiently pawed at her legs, luckily without his claws.

"Gentle, darling, be patient." She reminded Haku, looking down at him. She emptied the container onto a plate and lowered it down to Haku's level. "There you are, Haku, dear." The young female smiled, crouched down beside the cat.
Haku jumped around and leaped towards the plate then began to gulp down the food.
He enjoyed being a house cat. He enjoyed his owner, Andi. He enjoyed the food and his warm bed. He enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the winter. He enjoyed sitting on Andi's lap while she was reading and begging for her table scraps. He enjoyed the toy mice he had, and the jingle noise they made. He enjoyed perching on the couch as Andi gently stroked his fur, and he'd purred then listen to the sound of his Andi's laugh and watch her smile. He loved the roof of the house, how it protected him from the rain and cold weather. Most of all, he loved Andi.

They never fought, she was always sweet to him. After all, he was her darling. And she fed him, which made for an immediate bond that was unbreakable.

Andi had gotten up, and went into the her room upstairs to write on her computer. Haku quickly finished his food and looked around for Andi. He darted around the kitchen, searching for her. After he couldn't find her in the kitchen, he ran into the living room. She wasn't there. He meowed a few times, loudly. Typically Andi would've heard him and found him, though she had her headphones in to block the sound of rain as it was loud near her room.

Haku flopped onto the ground in defeat. He let out a few mews, and was surprised when he got a meow in return. The curious feline tilted his head upward and looked around. He stood back up on his hind legs, his delicate paws patting on the ground. He hoped onto the window seat nook Andi usually sat in when reading. He pushed his chubby face through the curtains and meowed. He received a meow in return again. His sky blue eyes darted around the yard. Until they feel upon a female cat. She was a light grey tabby with dull green eyes.

The tabby whimpered, laying limp on the ground. It looked soaking wet and hurt. Haku leaped off the window nook and began to scratch at the door.
At this point, Andi had taken the headphones out. They didn't do much good, the rain was still loud on the roof above her room. She heard Haku's scratching and ran downstairs.

"Haku, dear, what's gotten into you?" She asked with uncertainty. Haku stared up at her with his piercing blue eyes and let out the tiniest whimper then stared at the window. Andi, curious, peered out the window. She set Haku down and gasped when she saw the tabby.
She quickly grabbed a coat and ran outside, Haku watched from the window nook. She gently picked up the light grey tabby, and carried it in.

She wrapped her coat around the furry critter and ran into the bathroom to grab several fluffy light blue towels. "Shh... It's okay now, don't you worry beautiful, I'll help you." Andi softly whispered to the tabby, as she stroked it's ear.

That night, Haku and Andi fell asleep on the couch, in front of the fireplace. The tabby was asleep on Haku's bed- which he willingly shared- by the fire, wrapped in a warm, fluffy towel to keep warmth.
In the morning, Andi woke up. She poured two bowls of milk, and warmed them up so they'd be warm. The tabby awoke next. She seemed wary, though Andi's friendly smile and the warm milk reassured her a bit.

The striped feline took a step towards and then another, and another. Eventually, she reached the milk bowl. Gently, she dipped her tongue in. Liking the taste, she began to lap it down. Haku then woke from his slumber and bounced into the kitchen, darting over to the milk and giving Andi a morning leg rub.

After their breakfast, and Andi's, Andi brought the two into the living room.

The tabby seemed of decent health, other than a few cuts on her left paw, which Andi noticed when she saw her limping. Andi wrapped bandages around the cuts and called it okay, seeing as they weren't bleeding, nor infected- from what she could tell.

That afternoon, Andi decided to keep the tabby, seeing as Haku seemed to enjoy playing with her and they got along. She and Haku could use another friend in the family.

Andi ran by a local pet shop, and got the paperwork for vaccinations and things like that. She also bought the new feline a collar, and periwinkle blue one. It had the address of Andi's home and her phone number, in case the cat got separated from her and lost.

Andi named the tabby Ame, meaning rain.

From then on, Ame, Haku, and Andi all were one happy little family. And Andi always smiled when it began to rain, reminding her of when she first found Ame.
