          Z is for zeitgeber. A zeitgeber is an external stimulus or cue, such as daylight or a regularly repeated occurrence, that serves to regulate an organism's biological clock. My zeitgeber is school.

          During the summer, I get a little off track because I don't have school. My life so far has been based around school. Even at home, I eat lunch about 11:30 A.M.

          I know that when I'm in math, it's almost lunchtime. When I'm in science, it's almost time for tea. These two classes are my two main zeitgebers.

          Since school is always on time with bells, it's easier to stay on a certain schedule. I enjoy school because I always have a certain schedule. Schedules guarantee that one thing will follow another.

          My other zeitgeber is my family. They normally keep to a tight schedule during the week. I know that it's almost time for dinner when my mother gets home. It's about 9:30 P.M. when my little brother and mother go to bed. When my mother comes out of her room in the morning, I have to leave the house or I'll be late for school.

          Each person has his or her own zeitgeber whether they know it or not. Mine just happens to be my family and school.
