SEMINOLE

[NOTE: the histories provided are very brief summaries and mostly detail what happened with their respective tribes rather than personal history.]

____________________________

(( Fun fact: Seminole is derived from the Spanish word cimarron and roughly translates to "wild one" or "runaway" ))

Nation Name: Seminole

Human Name: Hialeah (meaning "pretty prairie")

Age: roughly 300 years (appears to be about 17)

Sexuality: greyromantic heterosexual

Appearance: Somewhat shorter than her siblings with darkly tanned skin. She has shoulder length dark hair fastened into a topknot with bangs covering her forehead. Her eyes are a murky, muddy brown and she has a lithe, slender build. Her hands are slightly callused from a lifetime of gardening, homecaring, and other various work. She used to wear a colorful traditional dress, beaded necklaces, and moccasins. Nowadays, though the beads and moccasins have stayed, she tends to wear a black square necked halter top with dark navy blue capris. Though it may appear odd to some she has incorporated alligator hide and teeth into her attire. This being alligator hide armguards and belt as well as the hide sewed onto the soles of her moccasins and alligator teeth earrings. (Note this has nothing to do with stereotypes of any kind, she merely has a personal preference for such). Hialeah normally carries around with her a separate belt with many small pouches to carry essentials with her as she travels as well as a tan hiker's vest.

Personality: Hialeah is very outgoing, adventurous, and very much an extrovert. She loves to explore nature (which somehow always leads her into trouble) and is highly fond of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. She is the type that absolutely can not sit still for periods of time and is always fidgeting. She hates silence and therefore can be quite talkative, ask her about something she loves and she can go on for hours on end with no signs of stopping. Not so much into fashion she is more about comfort and use rather than what looks good. Friendly, caring, and optimistic she can normally make friends very easily, though if angered or insulted she can turn a friendship around fast enough to cause whiplash (metaphorically speaking). Hialeah does not tolerate dishonesty and will treat anyone who is coldly. She adores spending time with family and will often seek out random siblings to go on a hike or camping with, though usually lets them choose the spot as not many appreciate spending the night in a swampy forest full of snakes and alligators.

History: The Seminoles formed in the early 1700's when, after conflicts with Europeans and other tribes as well as tired of beings oppressed by the Upper Creeks, the Lower Creeks (as well as a few groups from other  nearby tribes) migrated to Florida. The Spanish encouraged this as it not only increased their own trade with the Native Americans of the continent but also put a sort of rift between them and the British colonies. They officially became known as the Seminole in the 1770's. Runaway slaves sought refuge within the tribe and eventually some became a part of them, known as black seminoles. By the 1800's Seminole was having more and more bouts with British settlers who wanted their slaves back as well as the Seminole's land. In 1817 what became known as the First Seminole War broke out when to-be president Andrew Jackson led U.S. troops and invaded Florida (which belonged to the Spanish at the time) and attacked several important locations. Though they fought hard eventually the Seminoles were pushed back further south. In 1830 the Indian Removal Act was passed and the U.S. government tried to relocate the Seminoles to Oklahoma but they refused and the Second Seminole War began. During the early battles the U.S. was defeated but eventually they managed to catch Osceola, the Seminole Chief at the time, on October 20, 1837 and called a truce wanting to talk peace. It lasted for a while until May 8, 1858 when the Third Seminole War began. This time, however, the Seminole were not victorious and were eventually defeated. Over 3,000 Seminoles were moved to Oklahoma but around two-hundred to three-hundred stubbornly remained, hidden away in the swamps. They stayed hidden for twenty years until trading posts opened in the late 1800's and they eventually came out of hiding to commence trade and build up their tribe once more. In the late 1950's there was a push for Native American tribes to organize themselves and create their own charter. Seminole saw this as a good thing and was quick to do so. Her tribe went from surviving off selling agriculture and crafts to having their own constitutional government and becoming a federally recognized tribe of Florida by July 21, 1957. Hialeah has had to work hard to become economically independent. Her tribe has a number of different industries (including tourism and bingo as well as citrus groves and cattle that have replaced the trading of animal hide and crafts). Her economy is doing well today and, to Hialeah's pride, her people still retain much of their old culture.

Other: Took up traditional woodcarving as both a way to pass the time and somewhat after Loper.
She has a large pond and reptile sanctuary at her home where she owns and takes care of many reptiles (she's very fond of them) such as: seven alligators (five are infants, one adult, and one young), two different pythons, three other snakes (native to North America), various species of lizards (about four), and three species of turtles. She also has a large tank holding various species of frogs and toads (about five to be exact) as well as other smaller tanks each holding a single species of arachnid (about six). (In total she owns about thirty of these pets).
Though appearing young she is a licensed handler and game warden and is often called upon to remove alligators from people's homes. She will do the occasional show as well (her best tricks are alligator wrestling and holding an arm or her head in an alligator's mouth).

Current economy and status: economy is great and she holds tribe status
Why she came: she was curious about camp
Allies: mostly family, hasn't interacted with many others directly outside of that.
Enemies: anyone who harms her family.

Nation Name: 2p!Seminole

Human Name: Aiyana (meaning "forever flowering" or "eternal blossom")

Age: roughly 300 years (appears to be about 17)

Sexuality: demiromantic heterosexual

Appearance: Aiyana is slim with a delicate build and naturally tanned skin. Her eyes are a dark plum purple with streaked-flecks of lilac. She has long, shining, dark hair and bangs that frame her face and completely covers the left side of her face which has a birthmark shaped similarly to a flower on the top of her cheek. Aiyana almost always wears modern made traditional dresses and skirts that have soft pastel colors. She is fond of wearing her old moccasins and normally wears them until they are threadbare beyond repairing before getting new ones. A favorite shirt of hers is a traditional long sleeved pastel pink blouse. As her people did long ago, and still do, she wears several beaded necklaces.

Personality: Aiyana has always been a rather shy and modest individual and that has only been strengthened as time has passed. Over time she has developed selective mutism and often uses sign language to communicate, when feeling in a particularly good mood she will speak but if frightened or embarrassed she will immediately revert back to signing (this primarily started after the settlers came). Though if you can get close enough with her you will find a kind, thoughtful, and gentle person. She puts those she cares about before herself and always sees to their needs first. Aiyana rarely gives her honest opinion even if asked, thinking that others' opinions are better and more meaningful than hers. She has low self-esteem and even lower self-confidence with most things in life with the exception of few (cooking, sewing, and basket weaving being among them). Easily frightened and embarrassed she has never made the best warrior but says that it's fine with her as she is content with taking care of the home and such, though she has secretly always longed to do more but fears she will never be able. As such she is not well versed in weaponry or fighting, though she does know basic defense as she knows her siblings will not always be around or willing to protect her from every little thing and knows very well how to use things such as a kitchen knife, scissors, or even a sturdy piece of cloth to her advantage. The only problem she has is being a pacifist by nature, though she is willing to fight if she sees no alternative.

History: Much of Aiyana's history correctly corresponds with her counterpart's, though with a few major differences. The Spanish never encouraged their moving into Florida but Andres saw the benefits from it and did nothing to prevent it from happening. His main concern was putting a buffer between his and Oliver's colonies. They officially became known as the Seminole in the 1770's. Runaway slaves not only sought refuge but were welcomed within the tribe and eventually some became a part of them, known as black seminoles. By the 1800's Seminole was having more and more recurring bouts with British settlers who wanted their slaves back as well as the Seminole's land Aiyana having more trouble with this than Hialeah had. In 1817 what became known as the First Seminole War broke out when U.S. troops invaded Florida (which belonged to the Spanish at the time) and attacked several important locations and drove the Seminoles further south. Aiyana made a valiant effort to stop them but was ultimately defeated as she had had no proper warrior training. In 1830 the Indian Removal Act was passed and the U.S. government tried to relocate the Seminoles to Oklahoma but they refused and the Second Seminole War began. During the early battles the U.S. were victorious but the tables turned when, contrary to what happened with Hialeah, the Seminoles managed to capture the U.S. leader on October 20, 1837 and called a truce wanting to talk peace. It lasted for a while until May 8, 1858 when the Third Seminole War began. This time, however, the Seminole were not victorious and were brutally defeated. Over 3,000 Seminoles were moved to Oklahoma but around two-hundred stubbornly remained hidden away in the swamps, Aiyana among them. They stayed hidden for two decades until trading posts opened in the late 1800's and they eventually came out of hiding to commence trade and build up their tribe once more. In the late 1950's there was a push for Native American tribes to organize themselves and create their own charter. Seminole jumped at the chance and encouraged her tribe to do it. A vote was held and ended in favor of creating their own constitutional government. She too went from surviving off selling agriculture and crafts to having their own constitutional government and becoming a federally recognized tribe of Florida by July 21, 1957. Aiyana has had to work even harder than her counterpart to become economically independent and as a result she too has a number of different industries (including tourism and bingo as well as citrus groves and cattle that have replaced the trading of animal hide and crafts). Her economy is doing very well today and, from direct influence by Aiyana, her people still retain much of their old culture.

Other: Aiyana makes traditional beadwork and baskets now as a hobby and often gives out her creations as gifts to family and close friends. She is terrified of spiders, dogs, and guns and downright refuses to go touch or go near any. In fact if she even sees and spider or dog there is a possibility she will faint on the spot. She didn't used to cover up her birthmark (as it contributed to her name) but more recently some have made fun of her for it so she now keeps it covered at all times to prevent it from being seen.

Current economy and status: economy is great and she holds tribe status
Why she came: she just wanted to see everyone there again
Allies: family
Enemies: most people outside of family, Spain
