You've got to be kidding me
I just discovered something very awesome. (Or at least it sounds awesome, I haven't been able to try it yet.)
It's a 3D modeling program that sounds similar to what I'm looking for in a such things. There's an online version and a downloadable version.
The online version is supposedly compatible with 'any modern browser.' Well, when I tried to use it, all I got was a red symbol growing and shrinking in the middle of my screen. Like a loading screen, I guess, except the actual program never loaded.
And despite the fact that this thing was brought to my attention by an artist who seemed to think it was affiliated with Google...
...the downloadable version is apparently only specifically compatible with Windows and Mac. Nothing at all about Chromebooks like mine. Chrome OS isn't on the list of incompatible systems either, so it has maybe as much of a 1/50 chance of being compatible anyways, but I'm going to choose to ignore that for now because I really would have preferred a browser-based version.
Of course, I have my Chromebook set up with a Linux system I can switch to, but Linux is on the list of incompatibles, and even if it weren't I wouldn't be surprised if the way it is set up counts as a virtualized environment.
So... no SketchUp for me, apparently? The thing that hurts the most about this is, again, I was under the impression this was a Google thing and therefore something that would run on a Chromebook-- or at least acknowledge the existence of Chrome OS!!! But nope, my computer and its brethren get the short end of the stick once again. Great.
