wow...
My computer is a Chromebook. In order to play Minecraft on a Chromebook, you have to put it in developer mode and do some stuff to it. What I chose to do is use something called Crouton to run a Linux operating system alongside the Chromebook's default system.
With my computer set up like that, I can switch between a mode where I can play Minecraft, and a mode where I can't. But leaving Minecraft running while I'm back in Chrome can cause some weird effects.
The one that I discovered first is that if I switch to the Chrome OS while Minecraft is in fullscreen, the window manager for what my sisters and I call "Minecraft Mode" will crash. Not fully, but enough that it won't let me do anything, so I have to use a terminal in Chrome to kill and restart it.
Secondly, and much more enjoyable, if I pause Minecraft and switch, Minecraft music will play every so often, even though I'm in Chrome. Likewise, if I leave a video playing in Chrome, I can listen to it in Minecraft Mode.
So, there's clearly a continuity, where stuff isn't paused just because I switch my screen & controls over to the other mode. That's why this next one, which is the reason why I'm typing this, is so weird.
I'm sure many of you know that it is possible to leave Minecraft thinking you're holding down a button while you go and do something else. I decided to leave it fishing for a while, and discovered something rather odd.
Apparently, if I switch while Minecraft isn't paused, and have it set to not pause when focus is lost, none of the sounds will play on the Chrome side of things. It doesn't pause the game, it just puts all the sounds on hold until I switch back to Minecraft Mode. The particle effects, too. So leaving it fishing means that there will be a whole bunch of noise, and a whole bunch of bubbles, when I get back.
Wow.
