of COURSE it's not just the arachnids...
So, today two different bugs fell on me. One during my morning break at school, the other afterschool.
I'm not sure how that second one happened, because I was sitting in Yogurtland eating frozen yogurt with my family.
This school year, I've taken to wearing a pale pink hooded cape practically every day. So after today, I can tell you that having insects crawling around on you is a lot less creepy when there's a layer of velvet between you and them. Even if the velvet item is one of the most expensive pieces of clothing you own, and you would never purposely allow a bug to get on it. The weird thing is, I've had bugs on my clothing or on my blanket before, and those bother me just as much as any other. I guess maybe the velvet is just so familiar that it's comforting.
Above is the velvet cape my mom bought me at a Renaissance fair a couple of years ago. The ribbon that came with it originally was made of the same cloth as the cape, but it got lost at some point and we replaced it with a white ribbon, edged with lace and decorated by a string of plastic pearls running along the middle. It was this that the two bugs fell onto today, and it was this that was right near me when daddy long legs and the spider each approached me.
