kitties
Killer and Nightmare have a conversation. Nightmare softens up, just a little.
TW FOR MENTIONS OF ANIMAL DEATH
—————
"No."
"c'mon, Night! you said you would let us have anything that would make us happy, an' a box of kittens —"
Killer gestured to the box of kittens sat on Nightmare's desk.
"— makes me happy!"
Nightmare heaved a sigh, dragging the box toward himself so that he could inspect the "prizes" inside. A few of them had already passed earlier that day, before Killer had come along and stolen them from the AU they'd came from, so there were only just a few left (Killer had made sure to make tiny graves in the garden for the ones that didn't make it, Horror and Cross had cried a little bit). A rather fluffy white one with long and tangled fur (Killer had said it was "probably a Maine Coon or something") sat curled in the corner, asleep, a slim, tiny one scampering around the box the best it could with its injured eyesight (a Russian Blue or such, Killer had almost cried at the sight of it with some sort of hardened substance covering its eyes), and a rather large beige one with an injury to the left side of its head (a short-haired – although they were all fairly sure Ragdolls weren't supposed to be short-haired – Ragdoll) was also asleep, practically squishing the Maine Coon underneath it in some sort of sleep-cuddle pile.
"I said you could have whatever you thought would boost morale and keep your attention on your jobs."
Killer pointed at him, as if he'd just prove the tear-streaked skeleton's entire point, but he was too interested in watching the small, awake kitten wobble about and try adjusting to the new smells and sights. They all couldn't have been more than two weeks old.
"precisely! now, are you gonna stop bein' a grump about it and gimme the kitties? or are you gonna watch them in the darkness forever??"
Nightmare gave his right-hand a small glare that held no heat, his singular eyelight softening and darting back down to the kittens – specifically the one with the injured eyes – at a rather loud and impatient meow that also stirred the largest one awake.
"..Fine. But you have to take care of them and tend to their needs, I will have no business in caring for these tiny creatures."

part 2? who knows... (me, I know, and I'm probably going to make a part 2)
