Ranking Harry Potter Movies And Books

I feel like I'm giving alot of attention to Marvel lately but that's just because they've been killing it lately, what with Endgame out, Spider-Man Far From Home out and then they announced their Phase 4 movies.
But I've decided I want to go back and talk about a franchise that I hold near and dear to my heart. This franchise was the nail that hit the coffin on me becoming a nerd and a geek.

I'm of course talking about Harry Potter.
Now bit of a backstory, I was about 10 years old when Sorcerer's Stone came out in theaters. I remember seeing the trailers and saying that that looked interesting and asked my parents to take me to see it. Well, my dad and his friend and his friend's daughter took me to go see Sorcerer's Stone and, as they say, the rest is history.

I fell in love with this movie, I mean when it came out on DVD, I watched it over and over, the same for Chamber of Secrets. Heck, I could still quote probably both the 1st and 2nd movies, in full right now....that's how much I've watched them lol.

But I didn't know that this series was a book until after Chamber of Secrets came out in theaters. I saw the 1st book on a shelf at a store and I remember asking for it. But my parent said we didn't have the money at the time to get them.

I also want to say that I wasn't much of a reader. I always had problems with reading when I was young. I could read picture books just fine like Bernstein Bears and any Dr Seuss books but like actual chapter books with no pictures? I had problems with reading them. My parents wanted me to read older children's book but I refused.

Until my mom bought the first four books of Harry Potter that she got on sale. She handed them to me and basically said, have at it. So I went and read Prisoner of Azkaban first cause I was dumb and was like well I've seen the first two movies they can't be different from the books. So Prisoner of Azkaban was the first Harry Potter book I read and from then on I became fan of the series.

Anyway, so I've been thinking about ranking both the books and the movies of Harry Potter, and yes I'm gonna include the Fantastic Beasts movies. They are a part of the world of Harry Potter and this is my list...I'll do what I want lol.

So here we go! First I'm gonna rank the movies then I'll rank the books!

MOVIES

10. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

This movie is the weakest Harry Potter movie to me. They really screwed up this one by mostly focusing on the relationship between characters, which wasn't really a big deal in the books. Voldemort's backstory was pushed aside in this movie when it was the biggest part in the books.

Also the mystery of the Half-Blood Prince was pretty much forgotten in the movie when in the book, Harry was obsessed with finding out who the Half-Blood Prince was. The movie, you kinda forget about that until Snape brings it up at the end.

Also they didn't do Harry and Ginny's relationship very well, I mean you kinda forgot about Ginny after Chamber of Secrets. I mean awkward teen romance is fine but they made it too awkward. Idk maybe that's just me.

9. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1

I didn't like that they split this movie into two parts when Goblet of Fire or Order of the Phoenix deserved that better but whatever, when most of the book mostly focused on them hiding and camping. They could've easily cut down the camping scenes in this movie and put together the second part. Plus I wouldn't have minded seeing a three hour movie! Look at Endgame and Lord of the Rings!

Anyway, I know this movie is build up to the finale but this one was a little boring cause I felt that it was a little slow at parts.

8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I remember when I saw this movie, I wasn't really thrilled about it. Idk I enjoyed the first two movies so much and when Chris Colombus left and Alfonzo came in to direct I was alittle upset. And then the movie came, and while I did like it, it felt like Alfonzo was trying to make the movie Tim Burton-isc I guess you could call it.

I don't know it's kinda hard to explain. I also didn't like that they cut out the Marauders' backstory because that was one of the more interesting things in the book. The movie they forgot about it.

Man, I feel like I'm gonna get alot of hate cause this one is everyone's favorite Harry Potter movie.

7. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I wasn't sure when they announced they were doing prequel series of Harry Potter and I was hoping something about the Hogwarts founders or something cool that would give the backstory. But then they said this is about Newt Scamander and I'm like...you mean the author that was only mentioned once in the book series and not at all in the movies?! That's really weird but all right.

Then the movie came out and at first I didn't know what to make of it. There were parts I liked and parts I didn't like about the movie. I did like Newt's story, thought it brought back the magic of Harry Potter but then you get to Credence's side of the story and it's really dark. It kinda felt like I was watching tow different movies in one.

But eventually I came around to this movie and started to like it more. I love Newt, Jacob and Queenie they are my favorites in this movie.

And the twist that Graves was Grindelwald in the moment it was shocking but I wish that Graves was a follower of Grindelwald and not him in disguise. I think that would've been much better and then in the second movie they  transport Graves to the Ministry so that they could question him about Grindelwald. And then Grindelwald comes in and breaks Graves out.

6. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

And now we get to the most controversial movie of the franchise. While I do admit that there's problems with this movie like the whole thing about Credence's identity (which I think is a lie BTW) and the thing about why is McGonagall here when she wasn't even born yet and a few other things. I really enjoyed this movie.

I liked the darker aspects this movie was going for and honestly now I'm just on board to see what madness JK Rowling has in store for us. I'm serious! I'm genuinely curious. I know alot of people has ragged on her about retconning a few things (like Harry and Hermione should've been together, which is BS Ron and Hermione were good together) and giving us information in the wizarding world (like seriously, who asked for wanting to know if Wizards pooped themselves and then used magic to make the leavings disappear. Like WTF JK?!?)

But I digress...

Anyway, I also liked Leta in this movie..I just wished she wasn't killed off at the end.
Also can someone please tell me what does Newt see in Tina? Cause I don't understand.

She's so hateful towards him and she was the one that kept trying to get him arrested in the first movie and in this one she listened to some gossip colum and wouldn't let him explain himself at all until he basically had to stop her and make her listen.

I was like bitch just slow down and let him explain!

She's bland as rice cakes, so idk what Newt sees in her.

5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Now the movie that started it all. I remember being captivated by this movie and I was so into it. It just felt magical and whimsical, it was awesome! And of course this was the beginning of a love for a series, which is still ongoing.

I remember seeing Hogwarts for the first time and how in awe I was when that shot of Hogwarts while they were in the boats came up. I looked just like those kids did when they say Hogwarts for the first time.
I love the characters and the story and the magic. This movie also bring me back to my childhood.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2

The conclusion to the whole franchise. This one picks up right after pt. 1 and this one was much faster than it's predecessor. Plus the battle of Hogwarts was great, I wish we got to see alittle bit more like more characters fighting to show how powerful these characters are. The Gringotts escape was also great!

3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I really liked how they adapted this movie. Umbridge was really great! The actress that played her played her perfectly, I do wish they showed alittle more of how she acted in the books but they did a good job with her.

I also wish we got to see more of the Ministry during the battle but it was still cool to see the Ministry, which was weird cause it was almost exactly what I pictured it when I read the books.

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

There seems to be a few people that don't like this movie but I enjoyed this. I loved the Triwizard Tournament in this movie and the scene with Voldemort's return was great. I do wish the Maze task was like the book version but I can see what they're trying to do.

I liked Moody, but I really wish the movie didn't make it obvious that he was Barty Junior. Also I was upset we didn't see the Quidditch World Cup but other than that I enjoyed everything else.

I thought Robert Pattinson was great as Cedric Diggory and I loved the first and second tasks. They were great!

And my number 1 movie?

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I feel this one is very underrated. I don't understand why people hate on this movie. I really, really love this movie mainly cause this one follows the book pretty well, with some changes. I also love the mystery in this one.

People say that this feels long and it drags but I didn't feel like that when I watched this. I remember being sucked into this movie when I watched it. And the twist about Tom Riddle as a younger Voldemort I remember being blown away from that.

Also the Basilisk scared the crap out of me as I have a fear of snakes. So seeing a large snake didn't help with my fear.

Either way, I feel that this one is very underrated and it's my favorite Harry Potter movie. And honestly, when I think of Harry Potter the first two movies are the ones I remember the most. I even heard people say that this one is forgettable but I really disagree with that! I mean this one introduces us to the diary, which we find out is one of the Horcruxes.

Alright, now let's go with my ranking of the books! And keep in mind I love almost all of the books so this was really hard. My least favorite was pretty easy:

BOOKS

8. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

For people that want to know why I haven't done a fan fic of this one....I really hate this book! Plus it's already a fan ficfin of itself. A bad one, but a fan fic none the less. This book spits on the characters we know and love and Albus is an ungrateful brat. He doesn't sound like the son of Harry Potter. Rose was a bitch. Scorpious is probably the only new character that I liked.

And Delphi being the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix?!?!

Uh...No! J-j-just...NO!

The plot reminded me of Back to the Future Pt. 2, only done poorly. And then they brought back the Time Turners, are you kidding me?!?! And the way they are presented is wrong! That's not how Time Turners work!!!!

I haven't seen the play as I don't have the money to travel over to New York or England to see the play but after reading the book, I think I'd pass on seeing it even if I had the money.

Also I suggest watch this YouTuber named MovieFlame. He did a review of the book and most of what he said was how I felt about the story.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I still like this book but much like my complaint of pt 1 of the movie, I found this alittle slow at the first half of the book. But once they are taking to Malfoy Manor, I felt like it picked up. I also felt alittle sad when I finished the book. I mean I was satisfied but I was sad that there were no more Harry Potter books coming out.

6. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

This one is also good, I mean it's our introduction to the characters and the world but I feel like the books got better after this one. But I still think it's still a good book.

5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

This is also a good book, I did like how they handled Time Travel in this book (until Crused Child came in). I also liked the twist about Sirius Black and and Scabbers being Peter Pettigrew.

Also this book is the only one that doesn't feature Voldemort. He's mentioned but isn't involved. Which I thought was weird but okay. I also liked Lupin and Buckbeak and Hogsmeade.

4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Again like with the movie, I just really like the mystery. I thought it was really well done. I liked the introduction to most of the Weasley family and more about Hagrid and why he was expelled. And just like the movie, I liked the twist about Tom Riddle.

3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

This one was a great build-up to Deathly Hallows and I really liked the backstory about Voldemort, which I thought was very interesting. The mystery of the Half-Blood Prince was also really good and something I did not expect.

Dumbledore's death really caught me off guard when I first read it. I remember, after the the battle finished, I put the book down and cried because I loved the character that much.

I also liked their Apparation tests that they had to learn, I wish that was in the movie to at least show people who they were able to do that.

I also liked Slughorn, I think he's a better potions teacher than Snape. Yeah, that's right I said it! Come at me, bro!

2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Alot of people really don't like this book, and I'm not sure why. I really, really, liked this book. Alot of people say they didn't like Umbridge at all. Well, of course you're not suppose to like her, she's a villian. And I did like her as a villian, thought she was great.
And alot of people said they didn't like how Harry acted through out this whole book.

...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

Look what he's been through! He saw a friend, a colleague, of his die in front of his eyes, the man who killed his parents has come back and when he tried to warn the Wizarding World, how was he treated? They turned on him and called him a liar and an attention seeker!

OF COURSE HE'S GONNA BE ANGRY!!

Especially when afterwards, his friends had to stop talking to him cause Dumbledore asked everyone to keep him in the dark.
So, yeah...Harry being angry was understandable.

And my number 1 favorite HP book is....

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I really, really, love this book. This book was the turning point of the series, when shit got real. The Triwzard Tournament was great, the twist about Moody and the backstory of Barty Crouch Sr and Jr was great. The whole Chapter about Voldemort coming back was just chilling.

The Quidditch World Cup Chapter was also great.

But I like the darker turn in this book.

Anyway this is my ranking of the Harry Potter movies and books. What do you guys think? What's your ranking?
