This story takes place in a universe where, at the beginning of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 2, Discord wasn't defeated. For those of you who don't know, here's the basics:
     Discord is a Draconequus and looks like this

     He's the world's biggest fûcking troll and is a being made out of pure Chaos energy. He has unlimited power, his only weakness being the Elements of Harmony. His signature things include cotton candy clouds with chocolate rain and his ability to pull a lot of references.

And are considered demon spawn by the majority of the fandom, and very Toyetic by Hasbro.

The Elements of Harmony are the only thing that can defeat Discord. They are the the six main parts that make up a good friendship, being Kindness (Fluttershy) Laughter (Pinkie Pie) Generosity (Rarity), Loyalty (Rainbow Dash), Honesty (Applejack) , and Magic (Twilight Sparkle), or the spark of friendship between friends.
During the season 2 opener, Discord makes the Mane Six (the bearers of the Elements) start being the exact opposite of themselves. Twilight ends up leaving Ponyville (now the Chaos Capitol of the World), Fluttershy's a brute, Rainbow Dash hangs out on a tiny fluff of cloud, Pinkie's a grump, Rarity's a hoarder, and Applejack's a liar.

   This story is about Shadow Straw, a mainly dark blue Pegasus pony who was born after Discord took over and so has no Cutie Mark (the tattoo on a pony's flank that represents their special talent in life). She tries to stay indoors as much as she can to take shelter from the storm of chaos outside, and Discord's attention. Anyways, here we go.

     Shadow Straw lay hunkered down in a crate, hidden in what was currently an alleyway in what used to be Ponyville. She had two saddlebags strapped to her back, and was counting all the food she had managed to find.

     "Let's see..." she said, "four floating pies, two apple and two pear, three reverse apples, a box of singing Ginsing, two large jars of cotton candy clouds, orange slices that turn you orange temporarily, eight pieces of corn that tell bad jokes, three bottles of chocolate milk rain, a few books from the old library, and a couple of other miscellaneous  items. That should do us for a few days." Shadow packed everything into her bags and put a small piece of candy in her mouth. It had been specially engineered by Carrot- er, Crimson Erudition to temporarily disguise anypony who ate it as one of Discord's crazy creations. This time, she looked like a flying pig.

     Straw flew towards her home in the center of town. She lived in the old Town Hall, where the ponies of Ponyville used to host special events, long before Discord had arrived. This time, it was floating a few feet off the ground and spinning at different speeds in a circle. Straw flew in through the main door and landed just before the candy wore off.

     "Hey Straw!" A voice called. It was Flowerpetals, a dark purple Earth Pony with a yellow mane and tail and an excellent cook. Right now she had a Cutie Mark, this one being a pair of ballet shoes. As Straw watched, they danced their way up Petals's neck and poofed out of existence.

     "Hey, Petals. I got a bunch of food for you," Straw replied, taking the bags off her back.

     "Ooh! Ooh! Did you come back with anything good?" Petals asked, jumping up and down excitedly.

     "Yeah, I got a bunch of good stuff," Straw said, passing over all of the food to her, "and I found some books from the old Library that weren't flying around."

     "Well that's odd. Maybe their warranty ran out," Crimson Erudition said, walking up to the two ponies. Straw and Petals chuckled, which was normal around Crimson. Something about her just made it impossible to not smile around her. Despite the name, Crimson was a bright orange unicorn with a light green mane and tail, hence the nickname Carrot.

     "Anyways, where's Moolessa?" Straw asked, taking a bite of corn. Moolessa was, in fact, a cow. They were apparently uncommon before Discord took over, and Straw had never seen another one.

     "I'm right over here, don'tcha know," Moolessa said, poking her head out from a hallway that was upside-down and about a leg-length up off the ground, "could someone be a dear and help me down?"

     "I got it," Gartha said, swooping down from the ceiling. She was a Griffin, an unusually nice one for the species. Literally- you'd be lucky if you could have passed a griffin and not be purposefully shoved in to street.

     Gartha gently picked up Moolessa in her claws, flying her down the few feet to the floor. (Cuz Bïtch cows don't do steps.) Moolessa walked over and started looking through the food, picking up an orange slice and chewing on it. Everyone laughed as she turned bright orange.

     "What's funny?" Moolessa asked. She looked down at herself, and started laughing as well when she saw she a turned orange.

     "I sensed someone being laughed at. Point me to he object of ridicule!" A voice said. Straw looked up, to see Midnight landing on her head.  Midnight was a very masculine creature, always trying to prove himself. Probably because he was a Breezy, one of the weakest and tiniest creatures in existence, and constantly felt like he needed to prove himself. Most likely didn't help that he had a thing for anything that glittered.

"Oh, no, it's alright, dear. I just appear to have turned orange, don'tcha know." Moolessa said, giggling. Midnight rolled his small, adorable eyes and huffed.

"We should be preparing to fight Discord, not sitting around dilly dallying!" Midnight said. Straw levitated him off of her head before he could bring his tiny hoof down in frustration.

     "Calm down, Midnight. There'll be plenty of time to fight Discord, after we look at what I picked up. Ok?" Straw asked, shooing Midnight off her head and picking up a book, "I even got some very interesting books. We've got, Supernaturals: Natural Plants That are Simply Super, Running for Dummies, and The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide."

     "Ooh, can I have that Supernaturals book?" Carrot asked.

     "Sure," Straw said, passing her the book. Straw was about to walk off, when something about the Elements of Harmony book caught her eye. She opened the book, only to be shocked to find it hollow. Not only that, but it had the Elements of Harmony in it!
