(Just some baby words I use-)
"Waaaaaaaaaaa...." Oh shit not again.
"Katie I literally just put you down." I mumbled, sliding outta my warm bed and leaving my red and black bedroom. Sprinting through the old corridor to the pink and green nursery; softly I could hear the lullaby play throughout the box on the shell just over the noise. The white crib in the middle of the room was the source.
"I'm here, Katie. Look, here I am. Hey pigen." I baby talked, waving at the fragile baby, her wittle onesie hood was up, showing the green lions head. I decided to pick her up, hopefully it calming her down. Her tiny body squirming in my arms; still unhappy. "What do you want? Hmmm... Do you want... hunk? Want me to call hunk to read you another mechanic manual?" She glared at me with a look that could scare even Shiro. You've heard of the puppy dog eyes well-this child has 'the look'. "I'll take that as a no... want your lion? Hun? You want green?" I walk over to her shelf full of book on stars, outer space, technology, really a shelf for nerds, and grab the small green lion allura made her the day she met Katie. I handed it to her with a smile, moving it around; she refused the toy. "What else can I offer you? Katie, you have to help me out."
She gets this smile; one that make the hair on your neck stand still. She grabbed onto my black shirt, covered in baby food carrots n peas, formula spit up, and who knows what, with this baby anything is possible. I place the toy back, starting to pace back and forth from doorway to window frame, humming to the lullaby. Making her drowsy, I tried putting her back in the crib, but to no avail, she starts crying again.
"Katie, you need to tell me what you want." I sighed.
She sniffled. "La La. La-La!"
"La La?" I questioned, she started to squirm in her crib; when it hits me. "You want me to call lance? Yah. No kiddo. I'm not doing it." She somehow understood what I was saying; hitting the water works, the screams, the crying. "I'm saying no."
She stops and stares at me; The look.
After a few minutes of arguing with a baby, resulting in me somehow losing, I pick up my phone and called lance. Just as the ringtone starts she started crying.
"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."
"Help." I simply stated. A slight pink against my cheeks. Handling Katie is the only thing lance is better than me at, that I'll amount to.
"Be right there Keith." Lance laughed and hung up.
I picked up Katie. She had this smile on her face, "What's that face for?" She stuck her tongue out. "oh well I can do that too" I copied her. And boy she didn't like that, her eyes started to spark. "No don't cry I thought we were having a bonding moment."
Suddenly lance busted through the door. " Do you not know how to take care of a baby? It's like 2 in the morning, dude." He yawned, stretching his arms out for Katie, his blue shirt a bit too small for him showing a line of his stomach, the blue lion spread all around his fluffy pants, and as for his shoes he has blue lion slippers. We're a lion family, not a true blood family; that's overrated.
Lance walked over to me and grabbed the crying baby. Taking her to the rocking chair under the window; he humming to the lullaby, he getting more drowsy then her. It was a cute, I wanted to see this more often. Lance holding Katie. I felt my cheeks heating up, and decided to leave; not being of any help.
"Warm up a bottle?" He asked as I walked out of the door frame.
"Sure." I replied quietly. Katie's whines dying down as I walked towards the kitchen. Paperwork glitters the counter, I remember signing them just before I fed Katie dinner; then felt too tired to clean up I just left it. I grabbed the haft drank bottle from dinner , the rest of it dryed on my shirt, and heated it up under the sink water, like lance reminds me daily.
"Good for you! You actually remembered." Lance smiled, he stood in the kitchens opening. " I came to check."
"Well I would of if it wasn't for the spit up on my shirt." I laughed dabbing some on my wrist, checking it for baby temperature. Then placed down the bottle. Turning around, as I wiped my hands on a towel, I glanced back at lance. He was leaning side to side softly singing a Spanish lullaby.
"Well she's out. Let's go fix your shirt."
"Want me to take her?"
"Sure." I grabbed the quite baby and took her down the hallway to her room. Placing her down in her crib I whispered " night, Pigen" kissing her forehead.
"So... it's official." Lance smiled. " you're going to keep Katie?" He was towering over the crib beside me.
"That's what the papers say. Yea." I slightly smiled looking at her sleeping face.
"Tell me. How did you end up with a baby? Your barely 20. " Lance asked. Looking straight at me. Into my eyes; I look at him too.
I sighed. "No, she's not a gift from an ex. She's actually not mine at all." I stopped moving sweaty hair outta her face" I was exploring a downtown, old buildings from the 90's, a coffee hut, tiny boutique, a diner, a gas station, train tracks, and getting some shots for my profile. I had been out for a few hours walking and gotten cold, decided to hit the coffee shop, hot chocolate was sounding nice. I took a short cut through an ally and heard a muffled cry, a desperate scream for help. By the side of the coffee shop, near the dumpster, in a cardboard box was Katie, bundled in a old rag, and had a old shirt on for a dipper. She was freezing cold, lips past blue almost purple; on the break of death from dehydration and hunger." I looked back over at lance. He was almost in tears.
" And she smiled. I could've sworn I saw her smile." I sniffed my nose, it begging to drip. "I looked over at this baby girl, who has been in this box for who knows how long, in pain, cold to the bone, but she smiles at a stranger."
Lance grabbed my shoulder and brought me into a hug; being taller he placed his chin on my head. "I don't know what to say." He whisperers. "You flunked outta Garrison, because an orphan smiled at you."
I broke the hug. "Okay- when you put it that way I sound as stupid as you."
"Hey!" Lance laughed. "Uncalled for."
"Eh." We moved closer with every comeback. After 3 or 4 rounds our foreheads started touching. He smiles and looks me right in the eyes, leaning in towards me.
"Lance. Shut up." I learned into him; our lips brushing against each other. "And kiss me" He closed the gap between us. Our mouths moving in sync.
Lance broke the kiss. I feeling sad it was over; frowned. He just pointed to the crib. Katie was standing up in her crib giggling at us.
"Oeee. Oeeee." She giggles. We shrugged it off coming Bach in for another kiss.
And that's it, this was a old story that I added to. And I'm putting it in for a Klance writing contest. Hope you enjoyed!
