Opposites attract
Chains hung high above, dangling from the ceiling like limp limbs. It was silent in the underground bunker, save for the light wind and our panicked breathing after escaping the cells we were confined in. Phil lead the way, brushing past doors or knocking over the occasional guard and I kept an eye behind us, making sure they weren't following us. Surprisingly for us, there was no sign of the monsters that had captured even trying to catch up to us. And it was suspicious that there weren't more guards. Given how important it seemed that we were kept locked up.
"Watch out!" Phil yelled, he grabbed me around the waist and pulled me aside. A fireball flew past barely missing my nose.
There was an evil laugh from the other side of the dark room. A pair of glowing green eyes ten feet in the air stared at them, with a set of glowing white below.
"What's wrong Phillis?" The girl taunted. "I thought you were the fighter of the two, while your little friend Minny was the peace loving little pet you kept around" she smirked.
"She's not a pet!" Phil yelled, he threw a plank of wood down the hall towards them. In the darkness though, it was hard to tell where exactly they were. It clattered to the ground once the pair of eyes disappeared.
"You'll have to do better than that" A deep voice whispered from behind us. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as a hot breath shot down it followed by a chuckle from the voice.
"Get away from us" Phil growled. I heard him stumble beside me, I could only guess he was trying to push the other monster. Whatever he was.
I tried to stay close, but the darkness was overwhelming. I looked around and felt alone. Without my sight, I could only hear as he ran off down the hall, unintentionally I hoped. I didn't trust myself to move from the spot. Pits were everywhere, and all were filled with something deadly, or worse.
"Why so scarred Minny?" a voice whispered in my ear. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up in terror. "The monster under your bed come out to play?"
I turned around to try and face him, but I was met by only darkness yet again. I heard his laugh, a low, deep, throaty laugh that sent shivers up my spine. It held only pain and suffering behind it.
"Go away" I yelled, trying not to sound scared. It- didn't work. The complete and utter terror rang true in my voice, and I couldn't stop it. He laughed.
"how are you going to make me?" he said, I could just hear the smirk in his voice. I swung my arm out, trying to hit him.
It connected with something, but the laugh died in my throat as I tried to pull away and realized I couldn't. It was locked in a death grip by the brute in front of me. I growled slightly as I tried in vain to pull away again. Salem only laughed and lifted me off my feet, leaving me dangling far above the ground.
"You're so small" He laughed darkly. I pulled away from his hot breath wafting into my face. "If only Maxy didn't want you. There'd be a lot of fun left over"
A scream in the darkness surprised us both. I looked over my shoulder, wishing I could see through the dark to see what was going on. The faint glow from Salem's red eyes, didn't help me any, but whatever he saw, it was not something he expected. He had a horrified look on his face and I couldn't help but worry about it too. Whatever could scare him would have to be horrible.
"I'll make a deal with you" Phil called from down the hall. I relaxed instantly. He must have something scaring Salem.
"I don't want a deal" Salem growled back. "I want you to put her down. And maybe we'll make a trade" his voice held a hint of treachery in it.
"You let her go first" Phil replied "we all know I'll stick to my word, unlike you two"
"We're opposites of the same coin Phillis" a female voice hissed out. It was followed by a quick yelp. I shook worried at the sound of her voice.
"You wont stick to your word" Salem called back. I felt my self being lowered anyway. My feet brushed the floor and I immediately tried to push away.
"Hey, stop that" Salem snapped, pulling me back up. "Phil, are you ready to trade off?"
"Whenever you are" Phil replied. My heart thudded in my chest as I was set down again. I didn't try to pull away yet.
"Maxy, you alright?" Salem called out. There was even a hint of worry in his voice. Which was surprising, because he was never worried. Well, he never seemed worried to me anyway, just evil.
"On three, okay?" I heard Phil say "one.. Two... Three"
I felt Salem let go and I bolted forward. I heard a growl behind me but no sounds of him following me. The darkness was suffocation, but I knew it'd be alright soon.
Slamming into something, I fell onto my back. There was a gasp from in front of me then a primal scream. A weight landed on my chest, knocking all the air from my lungs.
"You little-" Maxy growled, pinning my shoulders down with her knees. I felt fingers wrap around my throat.
I gasped trying to throw her off, but she wouldn't budge. Spots filled my vision, and I tried to fight more but without air it was hopeless. I felt myself slipping in and out of consciousness, my fighting was becoming more sporadic, but I couldn't help it.
I felt myself slip out for the last time, just as the weight fell off.
