Gimme a minute

I'm perfectly fine with people following current and former teachers on social media. I follow two former teachers of mine on Facebook, and that's because I asked them! They showed up on my page under the "People You May Know" And I said "Hey, is it alright if I follow you?" And they said "Yes".

But what I'm not fine with are students who disregard the fact that these teachers are also people with personal lives!! If they pull up a social media app and say "I'm gonna go find you." And the teacher says "Please don't." And the student does so anyways, that is the student being so disrespectful to the teacher for not taking their thoughts into consideration!

"No" is a complete sentence! No teacher should have to validate why they don't want their students to find and/or follow them on social media!!

I have dealt with having to hear "Do not, not, not follow my personal page. Many have done so and suffered greatly in the past. You follow my work page because you all are my students and I am your professor. It's not my job to be your friend, it is my job to help you become journalists and get you prepared for the world."  from my mom because she has had to deal with college students trying to befriend her on her personal Facebook page rather than her work page for the past 11 years.

So call me whatever you want; "Butthurt teacher's kid" "Butthurt snowflake" "teacher's pet"
