Last Night
Me: *explaining to Stepdad why Bee and I aren't dating*
Stepdad: You both feel the same way though! Why don't you guys date?
Me: Let's look at it like this: Say you and your friend are on a diet together. This diet symbolizes life. You and said-friend decide to go to the coffee shop one day, where you both have the option of getting both a donut, symbolizing a relationship, or an apple, symbolizing friendship. You both want to have a donut, but in order to keep the diet going, you both get an apple. Although you both REALLY want a donut, you know you're gonna have to eat the apple if you want to continue the diet.
Stepdad: ...Okay wait a minute, so you both want to date each other-
Me: Uh huh.
Mom: But you won't date each other.
Me: Yeah.
Mom: Why?
Me: We're afraid.
Stepdad and Mom: Of what?
Me: ...Being the reason our friendship isn't the same. We're afraid of damaging our friendship, going against each other, making each other go from happy to miserable with a few words.
Stepdad: Holy shit...
Mom: I only knew the surface of it...
Stepdad: No wonder you're always stressed out!
