5 years later…

        “Come on Kaida! Hurry up!” Shrieked a high-pitched yet gravelly voice.

        “Just give me time to get my goggles on!” I yelled back at equal volume.

        Shoving on my poorly made goggles and snuggly strapping on my hooded cape, I ran through the trees towards the source of the voice. Finding my destination, I reached for her spines and swung myself high upon her scaly back, holding on tight to prepare for takeoff. Since the weather had been warm, we decided that today was the perfect day to do some training.

        As we soared through the the mountain peaks and white fluffy clouds, I thought back to the day that my dragon companion’s hatchday.

        It had been the coldest day of the year, and I had been searching for herbs at the peak of the mountain. The Cliffhanger egg, which had been as big as my hand at the time, was tucked safely in my deerskin pack. I had just sighted some mint when I heard a crack. I hurriedly took the egg out of the pack and held it as the baby dragon emerged. When I saw those two bright blue eyes staring up at me with wonder, I decided to name the little bundle of joy Femke.

        Ever since then I had taught her the way of humans, but I knew that she would soon need to learn about dragons. The training was supposed to get her ready, because tomorrow she would set off to look for her tribe while I looked for mine.

        We would try  to convince each side to make peace once and for all.
