The Father

Shoutout to camdawg2 and kevondre14 with all they're Record of Ragnarok (Shuumatsu no Valkyrie) related stories. Big inspiration for this so I hope you all enjoy.

The day started out like any other for one Izuku Midoriya. He woke to the sound of cheerful chirps of the birds outside his window. Gentle rays of sunshine leaked into his room as he began his routine. Quickly enjoying a small breakfast he prepared for himself before dressing in his school uniform. Leaving his home behind as he strolled through the woods that surrounded his little cottage. Sparing a passing glance at a small wooden cross that was stationed beside a flower bed.

He loved living out here, deep within nature and its vast beauty and bounteous grace. From the birds and squirrels in the trees, to the deer and bears upon the ground, the animals greeted him calmly as he passed them by. All this beauty, one could even say it was paradise, and yet he had no one to share it with. An apple coming down from seemingly nowhere cut him off from his thoughts.

"Thank you little friend." He said with a soft smile as a small bird landed on his shoulder. "I better get going before I'm late. Lord knows what the children will do without me there." He chuckled, picking up the pace into a brisk jog.

Smiling to himself as the bird flew off his shoulder and back into the trees. Calmly watching as the wilderness he called home soon morphed into a brick road. Soon leading him into the city as he continued on with his run. Taking a bite off his apple as he did so. Only to spit it out as soon as he chewed the flesh.

"So sour."

~Elsewhere~

Students gathered through the halls of the famous high school, UA, each bustling to get to their assigned classes. A few were wearing bitter expressions as Izuku passed through the halls with his calm smile. Knowing full well that this scrawny kid was in the hero course while they weren't. They couldn't understand it, many of them towered above him and even looked like they could crush him in an instant.

Yet, the few who knew of him and his power knew much better. Especially when they bore witness to the feats of strength in the entrance exam. Though, he didn't really care much for their gawking. He just knew he had to get to class before his teacher tried to tear him a new one for nearly being late again. It wasn't his fault that he needed to stop and help a child find their kitten. Or help teach another to tie their shoes when their parents wouldn't.

"Midoriya." A gruff sounding man said from the uncomfortable looking floor. "What was it this time?" He asked not really caring to look at him.

"A little one had scraped their knee after falling off their bike, needed some help getting back up but they made it." The man saw the grin on his student's face. One that could only be described as "fatherly". "You aren't looking so good there, Aizawa, are you eating enough? Sleeping like that surely isn't doing you any favors."

"I'm a grown man, Midorya, and your teacher. Let me worry about myself." He sighed, shakily sitting up from his sleeping bag. "Just get to the seat so we can begin already."

"Fine, fine. Whatever you say." The boy chuckled, his smile ever present. "But regardless, you should eat some actual food for once. And none of that convenience store crap." He said as he made his way to his desk. His teacher only nodded halfheartedly at his words.

"Doesn't that schtick get tiring? I mean seriously, what is with you?" One of his classmates seated two seats behind him asked. His grumbling tone made it apparent he was quite annoyed.

"Is it wrong that I care for others' well being? Isn't that what we're here to do as heroes?" He said with a smile that shined brightly, one could nearly hear all the women in the immediate vicinity swoon at that. Making the shorter teen grumble even more.

"What's wrong, Mineta? Was your weekend not well? I thought you said you had a date?" He asked, getting even more grumbles and groans. "Oh, did it not go well?" Another grumble. "She stood you up? How dreadful." His concern only made the boy groan further as he slammed his head on his desk. "Do you want to talk about it later?"

"Yes." One could nearly see tears leaving from the short boy's eyes.

'He is such a parent!' Almost everyone in the classroom thought unanimously.

"Alright settle down." Aizawa sighed heavily wishing he could've just stayed home in his bed and watch more cat videos. "Today we're having simple sparring matches. So get changed into your gym uniforms and meet me at training fields."

"Yes sir!"

~Later~

The first student to be out of the locker room was none other than Izuku Midoriya, to the surprise of absolutely no one. The others soon followed after once they realized that he had left already. Being the Class President it was his responsibility to lead by example and reminding them that their teacher isn't one to be trifled with. So they needed to be there quickly.

Then they got out there and were met by a strange sight that none of them were really all that surprised by. It was no secret to any of them that their friend lives in the woods and has a fondness for animals. His helping of their classmate, Koda, was proof of that on many occasions. What surprised them was how some deer, a few rabbits, a fox, and a bear had snuck into UA. And that all of them were simply relaxing with Izuku without a care in the world.

"How does he do that?!" Kaminari yelled out in confusion, startling the animals in question.

"Shut up!" Jiro scolded, not happy that her friend's yelling had ruined her chance at capturing such a serene picture before she could even pull out her phone.

"Greetings everyone." Izuku said as he stood up from his animal companions.

"I really should be used to this by now." Aizawa groaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Alright, everyone pair up and do some sparring. Quirks are allowed but don't go overboard. Looking at you Bakugo!" He said as the mentioned student could only growl.

Though said student's attention was not on the teacher. Instead he focused his snarls at the boy he's known, and hated, for years. The same person who has made a fool of him from the very start of the school year. The one pebble in his path to greatness he couldn't seem to step on.

"Deku!" He yelled, the boy not even turning his head towards him. "You and me!"

"Oh? Are you sure about that?" He asked calmly as he simply stretched out his muscles. "If you really want to, I guess we can. Does anyone else need any help first though?" he asked, looking over all of his classmates who simply shook their heads in response.

The two classmates quickly went away from the rest of the class, towards a designated sparring area. Izuku's calm smile never wavered as Bakugo snarled and growled in anger. He couldn't understand it at all. Not once in his life had he ever understood that boy, a fact that only infuriated him further.

They stood in silence, one clearly awaiting for the other to make a move. For what seemed like an eternity they waited, until the blonde's impatient nature got the better of him. Without a moment of hesitation he burst himself forward with a powerful explosion. Sending him flying to his opponent, a hand outreached for an attack. His palm glowing bright as he approached him.

Yet, the very moment he was close enough to launch his attack, he dodged. Izuku gracefully dodged the attack just as the spark flew from his hand. Jumping high and landing behind him. Before he could attack again, Izuku had blasted himself at Bakugo and had launched an explosion right at him. Sending him back with what Bakugo had planned to use.

When the dust had cleared, Bakugo was lifting himself from the ground. His gym uniform burned on his back and his rage grew ever more. Izuku's smile had dissipated into a deadpan expression as he simply opened and closed his hands. Some had even stopped to watch them go at it.

"STUN GRENADE!" Bakugo yelled as he aimed his palms at Izuku's direction. Sending out a blinding light that many had needed to shield their eyes from. "AP SHOT: AUTO CANNON!"

Hundreds of concentrated explosions flew through the air, an attack that many would fail to evade let alone survive. But Izuku did. Flawlessly, as if dancing in the wind, dodging each and every one of them. Stepping closer to his opponent with every move he made. He was patient. Waiting for the right time to strike. A moment that soon came to pass once the sparks stopped.

"Stun Grenade." A bright light was once again flashed, making the blonde wince as he refused to let it stop him.

In fury he launched himself forward as he could barely see. Not even noticing as Izuku launched himself as well. Adjusting his trajectory just enough for him to go above Bakugo as he passed him. Swiftly grabbing hold of his sleeve and using his momentum to throw him to the ground. In his shock he was unable to counter him as Izuku pinned him to the ground.

He had lost. He had lost to Deku again. And yet.....

"You've definitely improved. You just need to keep on practicing and you surpass me in no time." He smiled calmly, not an ounce of sarcasm or anything of the sort. Just pure warmth and pride in those words. Like those of a father to his child.

He could even process what was going on as Izuku had relieved his pressure and helped him up from the ground. Even going as far as swatting at some stray dirt from his uniform. Nothing was right with this, but it was wrong either. He couldn't even think right now.

"You should really be more careful with those attacks though. And you should work more on your defenses." He smiled, lightly punching his shoulder. "We wouldn't want a bad guy taking advantage of that. I can't always be there to help you."

He walked away back to his classmates before he could utter a single word in response. Nothing would come out of his mouth, nothing to say or do. Just watching his classmate, and former best friend, walk away to help everyone else. He was just so confused, even after all this time.

"You damn quirkless Deku!"

"Don't you dare look down on me!"

"What can you do? You're less than these extras! You're useless!"

Even after everything he's ever said to him throughout the years, all that he's done. All the insults, the attacks, and worst of all...

"If you wanna be a hero so badly, pray for a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof."

Despite it all he stills looks at him no differently than he's ever done. Even after all of that, no matter what, he's never once looked angry about it. Never seemed burdened or weighed down about it. He's always been....

"I've never cared about being the best. I never liked the sound of it."

"What's my reason for wanting to be a hero? Do I really need one? Does anyone really need a reason to help someone in need?"

"Hatred? Revenge? Spite? What nonsense. It is irrelevant to think of things like that. I'm just here to help push others to become the best they can be. That's why I'm here."

"If I can lead the way for someone and give them the tools to help themselves, even if it's just one person, then that's good enough for me."

He was always a better person than him. Always the one people actually turned to for help even when they didn't think they needed it. He was leading them down a better path. He was always the one they thought of as a father.

There we go a new sample. Its been on my mind for a while I just wasn't sure how to execute the idea. I had thought about a few scenes that could've worked but I felt they would be better off saved for an actual story if I ever start it.

And Adam is one of my favorite characters from ROR so this was inevitable. Along with Jack the Ripper and Hercules so expect something like those later on at some point. And as far as ships go for this potential story, you should know by now if you've been reading my stuff long enough. Even before my original account got canned.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts and I'll take any suggestions or prompts. Have a nice day!
