I did a thing OuO (A Fan Writing)

doctorpudding

I know you probably won't see this but I wanted to make a fan writing of your Twenty-Something Years Later book, after the ending. :) I wanted to write my version of what happened after the RESET because it just excited me so much and I couldn't help but write this. uwu

And to anyone who doesn't know what the book is, it's a sequel to another book At the Surface, and I would totally recommend both books. It's a Sans x Reader, though, so if you don't really like that, then cool, enjoy that freedom while you still can. (usually, Sans x Reader books have intrigued me enough to start reading them even though I don't ship myself with him).

Also, keep in mind that I'm not good with first-person point of view, so bare with me. XD

Also also, a quick warning: THIS WRITING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS TO BOTH BOOKS. IF YOU WANT TO READ THE TWO BOOKS, PLEASE DO BEFORE THIS. (THEY ONLY TAKE LIKE 2-4 HOURS TO FINISH IF YOU POWER THROUGH WITHOUT CRYING). IF NOT, YOU MAY PROCEED.

-------------

I woke up with a start. Breathing heavily, I gripped onto my blanket. Was I dreaming?

It felt as if you were... But something told me otherwise. If this had been ordinary, I would have ignored it and moved on with my day. But, no... it was definitely important.

I gripped my head, trying to remember. Why was it so important?

Suddenly, a light flickered in my brain. Mt. Ebott. Aunt Frisk has always told me stories about the interesting mountain...

Mt. Ebott...

That's right! I climbed the mountain and was pulled down there. I fell in, I was dragged in.

I traveled through the underground... well, more like half of it.

That's when I remembered the most important factor. The skeleton... Sans!

I had found your mother's past boyfriend in the underground and he helped me through the underground!

I found him.

I had processed this in under half a minute, but I still felt rushed. Adrenaline kicked through my system as I jumped out of my bed and rushed to the bathroom. Mom wouldn't let me leave if I hadn't.

After that, I quickly grabbed a hanger that held one of my green sweaters with two creme stripes and was about to put it on when the corner of my eye caught something. A red turtleneck.

I remembered when Aunt Frisk and Mom had gotten me that on Christmas. They said it represented determination and the feeling to push forward. I had always hated turtlenecks and thought they had just been joking around just to get me wearing Christmas colors because Mom soon got me some green pants to go along with it, but... it held a new meaning now.

Without any more hesitation, I tugged it on and got ready. I burst out of my room and ran to the kitchen where Mom was. She was at the fridge putting away a jug of orange juice.

"Mom!" I called. She seemed to jump at my presence.

"Kara? What are you doing up so early? You usually don't get up so soon." I tugged on her sleeve. "Mom, can we go visit Mt. Ebott?" Her expression darkened in the slightest. "...Why do you want to go all of a sudden?"

"Please, I really want to go! We can all travel up there; me, you, and Aunt Frisk! We have a lot of time, and I promise it won't be long!"

Mom scanned my face for a few seconds to see any kind of hesitation in me, but I was determined. Determined make things right here.

She sighed, seeing no falter in my expression and checked her watch. "Well, we do have about an hour until you have to go to school..." she said, critically planning. She couldn't say no to me with my stubbornness. "So does that mean we can go?!" I asked excitedly. Mom sighed once more. "...I'll go get Frisk."

I squealed and hugged her tightly. I noticed that I was significantly shorter than her. I could only reach her shoulders.

She seemed surprised at the gesture, but smiled and hugged back. She let go and put a hand on her hip and leaned down to my level, wagging a finger. A classic motherly gesture of hers. "Now you go eat your breakfast first while I go get Aunt Frisk, okay?" I nodded enthusiastically and raced to the table as Mom walked out of the kitchen to go get Aunt Frisk.

After I had eaten my two slices of toast and gulped down my orange juice bottoms up, and at that moment, Mom entered with Aunt Frisk. "Are you really, really sure, (Y/N)? You don't like going there," she said. Mom nodded. "You know how Kara gets. She won't change her mind," she said, laughing quietly.

We all set out the base of Mt. Ebott. Mom turned to me. "So, Kara, here it is. Now let's-" I grabbed Mom and Aunt Frisk's arms and pulled them toward the mountain. Mom protested and said that we couldn't, but I was more determined than ever. I pulled them through the terrible security fence and up the mountain. The fence had reminded me of the overly large fence across the bridge that led to Snowin. That led to San's hot dog stand. Where you met him for the first time.

Eventually, we made it to the top. I ran to find the barrier, and Frisk ran with me, smiling all the way. Mom had seemed surprised and ran after us, yelling for us to stop and go back, or else I would be "late for school". We didn't listen.

Somehow, a feeling passed through me. I didn't know where the barrier was, but it felt like something was controlling my legs, pulling me forwards. Determination ran through me, but I felt that it wasn't mine. Somehow, something was leading me straight to the barrier.

Once it was in sight, Aunt Frisk ran ahead of me and reached it first, pumping her fist in the air with a victorious smile. She was breathing heavily,  but she still stood strong. It was only a few seconds after her when I got there. I started panting but smiled just like Aunt Frisk. Mom arrived not soon after, her hands on her knees and gasping for air. Aunt Frisk turned to her. "Oh, c'mon, (Y/N), you haven't ran like that in years. Haven't you been exercising?" she said, putting her hands on her hips.

Mom glared at her for a second, then finally caught her breath and looked up. "So, Kara, why are we... here..." she said, almost annoyed when she said my name but trailed off when her eye caught something. She was looking straight into the barrier.

I looked at her in confusion and turned to see what she was looking at that made her look so shocked. I widened my eyes.

Sans.

He had his knees scrunched up to his chest and his head tucked in his arms. His shoulders were shaking up and down as if he was laughing or crying. I realized that he wasn't laughing when he raised his head and started to say something, probably to himself. I could just barely know what he was saying:

"I knew she wouldn't remember."

He looked up at the barrier as if in a last attempt.

His shock at what he saw made me smile just a tiny bit. I looked back at Mom to see her reaction, but she didn't say anything. They locked eyes and probably didn't know what to say.

Eventually, Mom walked up to the barrier. Sans must have snapped out of some trance and ran right up to it.

When they both reached it, they stopped.

And put their hands directly on the barrier, perfectly aligned with the other. Face to face from two separate worlds.

After a couple of heartbeats passed, I ran up to Mom and hugged her tighter than before. She seemed taken aback and hugged me tightly, squeezing me hard. Aunt Frisk walked up to Mom and gave her an encouraging smile. Mom returned it and put and hand on her shoulder, still holding on to me with her other arm, and looked back at Sans. His smile had never been so wide. And neither had Mom's.

This was it. We were finally here, as a family.

Even though we were apart, we were together.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-! >A<

I can't- it's too cute! >w<

I really hope anyone who read enjoyed this as much as I did writing it. I had that smooth determination hit me just right.  ✋ 👌

I had Undertale (the OST) play while I wrote the last couple of paragraphs, and seriously, that helped. (I think). It set just the right mood and I just-... ARGHHHHHSGHJBUYVHJ-

I love this too much, omg.

I poured my heart into this; if I could rip out my heart and squeeze it in front of doctorpudding as I slowly die, I would. XD

Thank you for reading this fan writing of a fanfiction and I hope you enjoyed it.

Bye bye!

(but while you're at it, [Y/N]-ot [why not] read my other books? They are very Sans-ational, if you Kara-nough [care enough] to read them! Just don't get to Frisk-y, [I mean the "excited" kind of frisky], I don't update often, sadly).

hehe~!

-Jazz (it wouldn't let me put it on the right ;-;)
