Katherine Head Cannon

A/N: this is mainly because my little lesbian heart loves her

She lost her mother when she was 14.

Often she'd go to the theater with her since her dad could be dismissive.

They both loved him but they liked to spend time alone.

Her mum called her Katie.

Katherine didn't have many close friends in school, in fact her mother was probably her best friend.

She was home schooled so her only friends were family friends (Bill and Darcy).

Her mother encouraged feminism and education, giving her her first typewriter at the age of 8.

Katherine started writing stories and then began to see what was happening around her.

She started to write editorials. They never went anywhere yet she still has piles in a box somewhere to remind her of her roots.

She'd show them proudly to her mother who would encouragingly say 'go show daddy!'

She would run up the hallway excitedly to show her father and would only be met by a brief nod of approval.

This only fed her passion, she was determined to impress him and every day fought for approval... genuine approval.

Her mother helped convince her father to get her into higher education and of course he did so cause he did anything for her.

When they both lost Katherine's mother they were completely taken back.

Her father shut her out even more so he wouldn't have to face the eyes of her mother when he looked at her.

He still provided for her but he simply tolerated her love.

She grew distant, lost her world, and her own love.

Katherine sacrificed a lot... but her love for entertainment remained. It kept her warm, you know the theater chills??? She still gets those.

She turned her writing to show reviews of uprising vaudevilles and other small shows. Anything she could.

It reminded her of her mother, how she'd squeeze Katherine's arm when she got excited or quickly whispered 'pay attention here? See that? That is a ______'.

It was a weirdly sad feeling... she was no stranger to Medda Larkin's theater, if anything it was one of her escapes too. But she was never too close with Medda.

It wasn't until the strike her passion for rights returned and she actually got to know the famous theater owner.

Medda asked what happened to her mother 'I haven't seen her in a while, she was a regular.'

When Katherine awkwardly explained, Medda simply smiled apologetically, grabbed Kath's hand, gave it a pat and reassured 'she's proud of the woman you are'.

That love was ignited in her again.

She found herself.
