Keith paced back and forth as Lance put his hand on his head.
"And you want us to do this why?" He asked.
"I already told you! Don't make me say it again!" Keith yelled, blushing madly.
"But I don't even like the mall!" Lance complained.
"Not everything is about you." Pidge hissed.
"Besides, Keith needs our help." She finished.
"Fine, Fine." Lance agreed.
"We'll help you, Keith. I understand how important this must be to you." Shiro chuckled.
"Shut up." Keith waved his hand as the four split up just in time. Y/N came through the door at that exact moment.
"There you are Keith! I was wondering where you went!" You said to him.
"Ah! Oh, hey there Y/N. W-what's up?" He asked timidly. This wasn't normally like him, to act with such caution. You knew him as he was; always rushing into things, never really fearing for his life. But over the past two weeks he had been acting off... way off. He was jumpy and stuttered when he spoke. It appeared he was only this way towards you, but you didn't know that for sure.
"It's really late, what are you still doing awake?" He asked you.
"I could ask the same thing!" You replied. Keith grinned nervously and scratched the back of his head.
"Haha, Right..." You smiled slightly at this cute behavior.
"Anyway, I heard weird growling noises from outside. I would have gotten Shiro to check it out but I couldn't find him." You told the boy. He cocked his head.
"Growling? Meh, I guess I could take a look." Keith said. You grabbed his hand and began to pull him in the direction of the one window. You had heard the noises from outside that same window.
"H-hey! Y/N! I can walk, there's no need to pull me!" Keith stuttered.
"Right. Sorry." You apologized.
"Hey, are you alright? You look a bit flushed." You asked him.
"Gah! I'm fine! Really! Must just be the lighting, haha." He mumbled. You rolled your eyes playfully and turned back to the hallway.
"Here." You pointed to the window. Keith popped it open and looked out. The noises had long stopped.
"Nothings out here. Maybe it was just the wind?" Keith suggested. You nodded unsurely, but accepted the answer anyway. You knew it wasn't the wind, but whatever was out there wasn't anymore.
"Ok. Well, I'm beat, I'm heading to bed. Goodnight Keith." You said as you hugged him, then broke apart and started heading to your room. Keith just stood there, eyes wide and blushing like a tomato. "
U-uh, goodnight!" He called. But you were already gone.
*the next morning*
You stretched and yawned, the sunlight pouring into your room through your window. You smiled, taking in the chirping of birds outside. As you listend, you could hear voices as well. Still in your pajamas, you got up and out your door. You went down the hall to the window from last night. Sure enough, Keith, Lance and Shiro were outside. You opened the window to hear their conversation better.
"Y/N said she heard something last night." Keith said.
"Well, she was right. Whatever this is, it's dangerous." Shiro replied. Keith was kneeling on the ground, stroking the ground with his hand.
"Hey! What's going on?" You asked.
Keith jumped and looked over at you as you climbed out the window. You strolled over to them and looked at the ground. A gasp escaped your mouth as your eyes landed on the long, sharp claw marks in the dry dirt.
"We aren't sure what made these. But it appears to be long gone by now." Shiro said. Lance nodded.
"We looked all around the base. Nothing." He said. Keith was too distracted to speak.
"Guys! You almost done? Remember we have somewhere to be?" Pidge called out the window. Lance sighed.
"Right. Coming." He nodded at you, the left. Shiro put his hand on Keith's shoulder.
"We will continue this investigation later." He said as he left with Lance.
"Where are they going?" You asked.
"Uh, beats me." Keith laughed nervously.
"Um... cute outfit." He said, blushing as he realized the words out of his mouth.
"Thanks? I still need to change, these are just pajamas." You said, climbing back through the window.
"R-right. Anyway, when you do, can you meet me in the front of the base?" Keith asked.
"Sure." You replied.
After throwing on some real clothes, you headed out front to find Keith waiting on a bench. He pat the seat next to him, motioning for you to sit down. He slowly looked up at you as you took your seat.
"Listen, Y/N... I've been figuring out some feelings for a while and I think there's something I need to let you know." Keith took your hands in his, face red.
"Keith?" You had a suspicion that he liked you for a while. Was this the News he was about to tell? There was a sudden roar and the two of you jumped.
"Uh... what was that?" You asked. Keith's face drained of color.
"The thing that made the claw marks.... it has to be." He said.
A huge beast placed a large paw on the roof of the base, lifting itself up onto the roof. It had a pointed snout and ears, giving it a canine look. A pair of glowing yellow eyes swiveled around. Its purple fur flowed in the wind. The beast had long claws that dug into the roof, and large fangs that could be seen as it growled. Its eyes laid on you and Keith. It threw its head back and roared.
"Run!" Keith screamed as the two of you took off.
"Ok that's definitely some sort of Galra!" Keith shouted over the pounding of the galloping beast.
"You said Galra were alien things! Like, not this big! And they looked human!" You shouted back, diving out of the way as a paw swung at you.
"Well, this is some sort of feral experiment thing! I don't know!" Keith dove at you, pushing the two of you away from the beast's jaws. You landed in a heap on the ground, stirring up dust. The beast slowly stalked towards you.
"Should we get Shiro? Lance?" You asked quietly.
"They're at the mall with Pidge." Keith replied in the same tone. You nodded.
"I shouldn't have sent them there." He said. You turned your face from the beast so you could see Keith's face.
"What?"
A beeping sound could be heard. The beast looked at its scaley tail. A time Bomb was counting down, the clock hitting one minute left. It swung its tail at the two of you, flinging the bomb. It landed next to your foot. The timer hit 50 seconds left.
"I sent them away so I could figure out my feelings for you!" Keith blurted out.
"I needed to tell you how I felt." 40 seconds.
"Keith.... well, how do you feel?" You asked.
"I....." Keith paused.
"I feel happy. When interacting with you, I get this warm feeling in my chest." 30 seconds. The beast began to walk away. It must have been sent to set off the bomb.
"Y/N..." Keith put his hands on your cheeks. "I think I love you." He said. 20 seconds. "And now?" He grabbed the bomb. "I can't afford to lose you." He stood up straight.
"Keith?" He looked at you.
"Y/N." He smiled at his mention of your name.
"Thank you for making my life exciting." He said, then charged towards the beast with the clock counting down from ten. The feral galra wheeled around upon hearing the bomb. Keith screamed a battle cry as he shoved the bomb into the beast's gaping mouth. The timer counted down. 3...2...1.
"Keith!" You yelled as a massive explosion took place.
You held your arm up to shield yourself from the flying pieces of galra. Disgusting. The fireworks stopped and you looked up. Among the smoke and ash, a young boy stepped out.
"Hey." He said, clutching his side as he stepped over to you.
"Keith!" You cheered. He held his hand out to help you up. You grabbed it and yanked upwards, pulling yourself into his embrace.
"You're alive!" You exclaimed.
"So are you." He said, smirking. That was the Keith you knew.
You pulled him in, kissing him quickly before he could protest. It was only two seconds long before you pulled apart. Keith looked into your eyes.
"Hm. That's not gonna suffice." He said, his lips crashing back down onto yours. You were surprised but glad.
"Y/N! Keith! We heard the explosions and came back as fast as we could, are you two alri-" Pidge stopped mid sentence. Keith swiftly pulled away.
"Ahahaha, you can't cover that one up!" Lance teased. Keith looked down with a sort of angry expression.
"You handled the beast pretty well. Even if it was a foolish decision to use a bomb." Shiro said.
"Wha- we didn't use the bomb! It was gonna blow us up first!" Keith replied.
"We have some explaining to do." You said.
"Yeah you do!" Lance laughed. "Wanna show us what happened at the end there again?" He continued. Keith walked over and punched him in the arm.
"Come on, let's get inside before telling the story. Standing in this mess of galra parts is making me wanna puke." You said, linking yours and Keith's arms and leading him back to the base.
