During the summer of 1985, in the small town of Checkerberry, Maryland, Maxine Anderson is all but an eleven-year-old girl, spending the summer with her uncle. Her boring visit begins to look up when she meets first friend in the town: Boy Max. Thanks to him, it seems like there's hope for the little girl after all... that is, until he disappears without a word.
