Liam Dunbar
Y/n P.O.V
Liam slowly released your bottom lip from his teeth before resting his forehead against yours. The full-blown kiss that you just shared left the both of you absolutely breathless. Liam's eyes briskly opened, revealing his baby blue orbs which reluctantly searched yours before he opened his mouth to speak, "This means nothing right?" He asked, whispering almost as if he was scared of letting this little secret that you two had out.
"Yeah." You replied, before averting your eyes away from his agonizing stare. "Nothing at all."
With a short term agreement that consists of giving affection to one when needed which was nothing more than a kiss. But the thing was- there was no strings attached. The second someone admits to falling for the other then the deal would be off. It was simple really, what happens in your room stays in your room and you just can't fall in love.
But that's what you exactly did,
You fell for Liam Dunbar.
A week later...
The bed dipped slowly once the clock struck midnight. You laid still as you recognised the scent of no one other than Liam, who for the first time was late and had an enormous grin on his face which made you curious to why he was so giddy at this time of night.
"Y/n, I did it. I actually did it." He began as rested on his side so he could face you.
Your brows furrowed, "Did what Liam?"
But you instantly regretted that question which escaped your mouth. As much as you wanted to know why Liam was like this, you hoped it wasn't what you were thinking.
"I kissed her. I kissed Hayden."
Your heart felt as if the person who had control of it clenched it so tight, it could break. And that person was Liam. He looked after it, kept it safe but now he mishandled it before crushing it between his fingers.
"What's going to happen now? I-I mean the deal?" You questioned, concerned that all this would be over.
And without any hesitation, Liam's smile widened, "It'll be over! There will be no more sleepless nights for you and you won't need to see me anymore."
With every muscle, you forced your lips into a tight smile as you tried to hide away your hurt. So you then turned the other way before feeling Liam's arm snake around your waist and lull you towards him.
As much as you don't want to sound clingy, you didn't want the thing between you and Liam to end. But we all know nothing lasts forever, that's a fact.
But that night, the one thing that made your chest painfully wheeze even more was that fact that you swore you heard Liam whisper,
"Goodbye Y/n."
-
As you were strolling to your locker, you immediately caught sight of a mop of brown hair heading straight past, so you grasp their arm and pulled them into an empty classroom.
"Y/n, what the hell?" Liam asked, his voice rising slightly. His blue orbs glaring at you as you blocked the door.
You gulped, "Liam, I-I need to speak to you."
"Well hurry up because Hayden i-"
"I'm in love with you." You blurted out, interrupting him before you instantly cover your mouth with your hand.
Liam frowned, "What do you mean? You're not supposed to, it was part of the deal Y/n."
That wasn't the reaction you expected. In movies, once the main character confesses their love, they get it in return, but isn't everything too good to be true.
"It just happened okay! I can't help it Liam, I'm in love with you and have been ever since." You then paused with your heart pounding in your chest at the question that invaded your mind all night. "Do I mean anything to you?"
An eerie silence invaded the room as Liam kept his stern eyes on you the whole time. You hoped Liam would say the word you would want to hear but you knew he would say the other. The word that no one would want to hear.
"No." He stated. "You mean nothing to me Y/n. You were only there to help me with my nightmares, that's all."
Feeling a sudden lump inside your throat, your eyes blurred with tears before you turned away from Liam because of utter embarrassment and hurt. He only used you and that was the worst feeling in the world. You were only there for his needs but he was never there when you needed him.
With that, Liam sighed and pushed past you then headed straight out of the door.
Your breathing began to lose rhythm before you pressed your hand harder against your lips trying to stop the sobs from escaping whilst the tears drizzled out of your eyes.
You felt helpless.
A hand soon clasped around your shoulder before turning you towards them. "Shh. Y/n, It's alright." A low voice soothed.
You glanced up and felt Theo dragged his thumb on your wet cheeks. "Theo? You heard-"
He nodded before wrapping his arms around you, completely taking you by surprise. "I know how it feels." He muttered. "You know what? I'll do you a favour."
You pulled away before wiping you cheeks with your sleeve. "What is it?"
A hidden smirk made its way to Theo's face before his blue eyes stared down at you mischievously, "I'll get rid of Hayden only if-" He began before leaning in closer.
"-You break Liam's heart."
Theo's words spun rapidly around your head and almost echoing itself so you wouldn't forget it.
You stepped cautiously away from him whose gaze haunted you down as if you were his prey. "Wait. W-What?" You began, your brows furrowing. "That's not right! I can't do that!"
As much as you wanted Liam, you couldn't do that. Not to him. It won't only break him in the process but it'll break you.
Theo then closed the gap between you and grasped your face with his rough hands, cradling it affectionately. You froze, staring up at the mischievous boy who titled his head to the side as he examined you.
"You can Y/n. I know it." He paused before squeezing both of your cheeks playfully. "I have all my faith on you. And plus, I'm doing the tricky bit- you're just there to play along."
"Play along?"
Theo nodded, "It's simple really. All I have to do is take Hayden out of the picture then Liam is all yours!"
Simple. That's an understatement.
You crossed your arms over your chest, wanting to get more answers. "And how are you possibly going to do that?" You questioned.
And with his next words, you felt a shiver run down your spine as his hot breath fanned your ear.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out."
The second you strolled into school, you halted in your tracks. Your pulse ceased and your cheeks paled at the sight in front of you. And as much as you wanted to tear your gaze away, you just couldn't because it was Liam.
But, you watched as Liam dragged Hayden along the corridor whilst she gripped his hand like her life depended on it.
And you guess her life did, because with Theo lurking around, Hayden wasn't safe.
Hoisting your backpack, you preceded to follow them until you were face to face with Mason, who smiled widely at you.
"Hey Y/n! How are- Is everything okay?"
You waved him off and grinned, "Mase! Hi! Uh- yes everything fine. Um- why'd you ask?"
He shrugged, chuckling. "The fact that you're griping my arm so tight says otherwise."
You then looked down, wondering how your hand went there. "Oh? I'm sorry mase. I didn-"
"Don't worry." Mason paused, checking his watch. "I better go, catch you later Y/n."
Then you were left alone in the empty hallway.
As you began to walked pass the school busses, you suddenly came to a standstill as you recognised the voices who spoke softly.
"Liam, you don't have to check up on me."
"But I want to."
Then nothing, there's was nothing other than a silence which caused your heart to pound in your chest, and as much as you wondered why it was quiet- you better off knew what was happening. But curiosity got the better of you and you hesitantly turned the corner.
And that was a stupid mistake.
Your eyes welled with warm tears which forced its way abruptly down your cold cheeks. You then sunk your teeth on your lower lip as you tried to supress the sobs which eagerly wanted to come out.
Liam caressed Hayden's cheek with his hand as his lips hovered over hers- just as he used to do with you.
You immediately turned to leave but in doing so, you crashed into a toned figure which caught you from falling from the impact.
"Y/n, what on earth-?" Theo questioned, gripping your shoulders as he held you steady.
You opened your mouth to reply but your throat began to clog up by the second and instead a sob finally escaped.
"I can't do I-it Theo. I can't." You whispered, your blurred vision stared up at Theo who has a questionable expression. "H-he loves her."
Theo chuckled before moving a strand of hair away from your face and placing it behind your ear. "He doesn't love her Y/n."
"What do you mean? I know what I saw."
You hadn't noticed that Theo leant down until you felt his breath fan your cheeks, his hand crept from your shoulder to your cheeks whilst his thumb swiped along your tear strained cheeks. His blue orbs then turned a shade darker, as they gazed on your lips.
"Wait for his reaction Y/n. You'll see." He muttered.
Your brows furrowed at his words but as footsteps grew closer by the second, you began to pull away but Theo held you in his strong grip.
"Reaction to what Theo?" You whispered, confused.
"This."
And with that,
He pressed his lips against yours.
"Y/n is- Theo?" Liam's strained voice caused you to immediately rip away from Theo as if he was a scorching flame. You felt his lingering gaze on you burning its way to your skin which as much as you could, avoided it.
Looking up, you instantly met Liam's blue orbs which held an unreadable expression but you then noticed he held a trembling Hayden who stared down at her silver coated fingers.
You let out an inaudible gasp with your eyes wide, "Hayden what happened-" You began.
"You can't tell anyone." Liam interrupted, gulping. "Promise me please, the both of you."
Hearing his strangled words leave his mouth almost desperately caused your heart to drop to a pit in your stomach. 'He's never going to feel the same way towards you.' you thought.
And at that point, that's when you noticed how Liam always depending on promises and you broke one- one in which was to never fall in love with him.
"I-i promise." You replied.
So, with nothing but a single nod, you watched as Liam held Hayden in his arms securely as they walked back into the building. The green eyes monster crept its way to your heart and you couldn't deny it- you were jealous.
Jealous because you knew you were just a forgotten memory of Liam Dunbar.
Suddenly feeling a tug of your wrist, you looked up to see Theo watching you with concern. "Is everything alright?" He asked.
You tugged your arm away and sneered at him, who brows immediately furrowed. "What the hell was that?"
"What the hell was what Y/n?"
You groaned in annoyance as you ran your fingers through your hair and shrieked, "The kiss Theo! The bloody kiss!"
Theo chuckled, "Stop over-reacting Y/n. I was only trying to help but-" He paused dipping his head with a playful glint in his eyes,"-We could always do it again."
Over-reacting was a complete understatement.
Before he could pull your face towards his, you pushed him.
"Theo stop." You timidly stepped away as you continued to speak, "How on earth did that help Theo?"
The boy in front of you stood unnaturally quiet as he trained his eye on your every move.
"You want something don't you- that's why you made this deal."
And like a deer caught in headlights, Theo froze. "Y-Y/n no-"
"Tell me the truth. Did you or did you not want to help me?"
His head sunk lowly before he shook his head. "No." He replied inaudibly causing you heart to stager in your chest.
You flailed your arms before letting out a shaky breath, "I-I thought you were different-"
Theo suddenly stepped towards you, grasping your arms in process. "I am Y/n! I am."
Shaking your head, you pulled away, "No you're not. You're just like Liam! Always pleasing yourself."
And without another word, you hiked your bag before stalking off.
As much as you wanted to know why Theo made the deal, something inside wanted to keep that hidden.
Later that night, the sudden bang of the window caused you to jolt awake with your breath staggering in panic. "H-hello?" You stuttered, grasping the nearest thing to you which was a remote control and held it for dear life. "I'm armed, so show yourself before- Liam?"
His eyes were the first thing you saw- those baby blue orbs which glistened in the moonlight and captivated and lulled you into a trance. Liam stepped away from the shadows and pulled you into his arms; you froze.
"Liam? What are you doing here?" You questioned, before he pulled away.
You stared up at him with confusion as he almost looked terrified at the words that was about the come out of his mouth.
"I'm running away."
Your blood ran cold along the veins on your body, your eyes wide with fear and your pulse hammered in your chest. Liam was running away. All you ever wanted was to keep Liam safe and now how can you when he's furthering himself from you.
"Where?" You pressed eagerly, "Liam, where are you running away to?"
The boy in front of you hung his head lowly before shutting his eyes, "I don't know yet but somewhere far from here-"
He paused, and quickly glanced up at you, "With Hayden."
And from then on, that's when it came to realisation that as much as you wanted Liam, he was slowly drifting away. The feeling tugged your heart and clenched it so tight that you wanted him to be happy- and if it wasn't with you then so be it.
And it was time to let Liam go.
You gathered every bit of courage and wrapped your arms around him. Everything seems so easy, but it never was- love is never easy.
"Be careful Liam." You whispered, before stepping away. "Promise me you'll be safe."
He nodded with his lips tugging upwards. "I promise, Y/n."
Liam then made his window but even without thinking, you called his name. The brunette boy turned towards you with furrowed brows as he held onto the window frame.
"You must have an idea where you're going Liam right?" You asked.
He nodded, "We're going to Sinema first but from then on, I have no clue."
With that, he left. With nothing- not even a simple goodbye.
And heck, it hurt like hell.
Suddenly, a loud thrust of your bedroom door flew open revealing a worn out Scott who was closely followed by Theo. Your brows knitted together as you stepped closer to them.
"What are you doing here?" You asked.
The expression on Scott's face grew rigid whilst his eyes flashed with worry. The silence made its way between the three of us that you could almost hear the rapid pulse which attacked your chest.
"What? What happened?! Theo!" You eagerly questioned.
"It's Hayden." Theo began, "They're coming for her."
"Are you sure they're here Y/n?" Scott asked as we all stood outside the dance club.
You nodded, "Positive. Liam told me himself."
Theo shot a look at Scott before turning to you. "Okay, Scott you go in first and Y/n and I will be on the lookout."
Frowning, you turned to Theo, "Hell no. I'm going in with Scott." You argued.
He let out a frustrated sighed, "You can't! It isn't safe?"
"How do you know?"
And just as Theo opened his mouth to reply, a piercing scream followed by a roar came from inside the building causing you to push the doors open and run in.
Completely ignoring Theo's calls for you to come back, you headed straight towards the dance floor. The room only lit with dimly colour lights but what caught your attention was seeing a familiar figure being flung onto the wall before he came crashing down.
"Liam!" You shrieked, but before you could reach him, you took a sharp intake of a breath; time stopped almost as if the earth stood still and everything went silent except for the low voices screaming your name. A searing burn flared up on the side of your waist, as a large hand groped your throat before yanking a cold metal out of you. Letting out a gasp, your palm instantly rested against your wound before you stared down at the crimson liquid dripping from your fingers. Your eyes stung as the warm tears burned its way down your cheeks once the pain eloped your body, kissing every inch of your skin.
And with a last inhale of breath, you fell and everything went black.
Theo's P.O.V
Catch her.
That's all I thought about. She was falling and slipping through my fingers and I needed to catch her.
As I grasped her body in my arms, I stared down and blinked. Her once rosy cheeks were pale whilst her lips were no longer pink. She was lifeless.
This was not Y/n.
My nostrils flared as my blue orbs flashing and closing into slits, my mouth quivered as rage exploded inside of me.
I was too late. Only if I kept her outside for a little longer- she wouldn't be lying dead in my arms.
I looked up at the dread doctors and growled, "You got the wrong girl."
