Dean Winchester AU Part Four

Cinderella  AU
Three short knocks sounded on your door bringing a grin to your face. You silently slipped out of bed and with light footsteps made your way to the door.
"Who is it?" You whispered teasingly.
"Take a guess sweetheart" His husky voice answered back. God that voice! It alone had the power to make you weak at the knees.
You unlocked the door and opened it slightly so that just your face showed "Can I help you?"
He pushed you softly back into the room, shutting the door behind him. You heard the lock click into place causing you to instinctively bite your lip. "I think you know exactly why I'm here" He whispered, slowly making his way towards you.
"I haven't the foggiest" You retorted, a smirk on your face as he got so close that your chest skimmed against his.
He smirked down at you, leaning down slightly so that his face was right next to yours. You took a look down at his lips, just imagining what they would feel like. Your eyes snapped back up to his once you had caught yourself staring as his face broke into smirk. He leaned even closer, his lips on track for yours as your eyes fluttered closed when he stopped, his whisper breaking the silence "That's what I thought"
You opened your eyes in shock to see him turning away from you. You growled under your breath before taking his arm and pulling him back towards you.
He gladly let you, bringing his hand to cradle your neck as your lips attached to his. Your hands made their way to his hair, acting on instinct due to a lack of experience.
He smiled into the kiss before tracing his tongue along your bottom lip asking for entrance. You gladly allowed it, his tongue slipping into your mouth.
He patted the back of your thighs telling you to jump. You happily complied, wrapping your legs around his waist as he held you up, never once breaking the kiss.
He brought you over, pushing you against the wall before moving his lips to your neck, kissing, sucking, biting the area.
"God Dean" You moaned, clinging to him as if your life depended on it.
You heard him chuckled before kissing his way back up to your lips before taking you off the wall and laying you on the bed, moving to hover over you.
He continued to kiss you as you moved your hands down, clawing at the hem of his shirt. He reluctantly broke from the kiss, allowing you to sit up as he moved his hands to cover yours "Are you sure you want this?"
"God yes" You moaned out desperate to have him touch you again. He smirked and leaned back down and pressed another kiss to your lips before pulling back.
You whined once more at the loss of his touch "I'll be right back" He said pressing a short sweet kiss to your forehead "I promise sweetheart"
You grinned, collapsing back on the bed as a content sigh left your lips. Dean grinned and ran out of the door.
You laid back on the bed, enjoying the feel of the soft sheets underneath you, when there was a deep cackling. You froze in place, your eyes widening in fear as the voice spoke.
"Well he just has you wrapped around his little finger doesn't he?" You swore your heart stopped as you recognized the voice.
Seconds later there was a hand wrapped around your ankle, pulling you of the bed. You clawed at the sheets desperately but it was all in vain as your head hit the hard ground harshly.
"You will speak when spoken to understand?" Your mother spat as you nodded eagerly from the floor.
"Good now that that's done with" She smirked as she walked closer so that she was standing above you. She slowly raised her foot and pressed it to your throat, pressing down on your windpipe. "What did I tell you about embarrassing me?"
You tried to push up on her foot as you struggled to breath but it was to no avail.
"You come here and try to seduce him?!?" She asked outraged "Do you even know what you are doing?"
You shook your head, tears pouring from your eyes.
"Why was I even asking?" She spat, finally pulling her foot off of your throat as you immediately pulled your hand up to the area, coughing and sputtering "From what I saw you had no idea. You made a complete fool of yourself!"
You gathered all of the strength that you had as you pulled yourself off of the floor, scrambling out the door.
"Dean!" You croaked as loud as you could "Dean!" Her laughter was heard behind you again as she dragged you back into your room.
"God I always knew you were stupid but this is a whole new level." She threw you into the wall as she spoke "Dean is not coming for you?"
"No, no he is, he's-he's" You stuttered as she laughed harder.
"How do you think I'm here? Do you think just anyone can get me out of the dungeons?"
"No" You whispered shaking your head. "No he wouldn't do that"
"Oh dear" She whispered in fake sympathy as she picked you up by your hair "But he did" And with that she threw your head against the wall.
-
Large hands shook you awake as a loud screaming pierced your ears. Moments passed before your frightened brain was able to catch up to the situation. It was your screaming that filled the silence and Dean's hands that were on your shoulders.
You stopped screaming immediately and made eye contact with Dean, his eyes filled with concern. Before he had a chance to ask you latched onto him, burying your face deep in his shoulders as you fought back tears.
To your pleasure he didn't say anything, simply held you as tight as you held him, the silence of night filling the room once again.
"My mother" You whispered without letting go. "Where is she?"
"She's in the dungeon" Dean assured you immediately
"And you'd-" You stopped yourself, unsure of how to ask the next question.
"What is it?"
"you would never let her out. Right?" Your voice was soft and scared as you held onto him tighter.
To your displeasure he pulled back, his bright green eyes staring concerned into yours. "Where is this coming from?"
You shook your head, moving your gaze away "You're right it's stupid"
"No no no" He whispered, cupping your cheek in his hand and pulling your gaze back to his "I will not let her out, I would never do anything to hurt you."
You nodded slowly and brought your hand up to cover his, leaning into his touch slightly. You noticed how his face erupted into a soft smile as you did so, your eyes being aromatically drawn to his lips.
His eyes tracked your's, his smile getting even bigger. You smiled back at him, gathered all of your courage and leaned in, however, just as your lips were about to touch he stopped you.
"I don't want to take advantage of you" He whispered, his forhead resting against yours.
"You aren't." You responded "This is my choice"
"And don't get me wrong I love this choice" He smiled, slowing pulling back "But just...not now"
You nodded back, an awkward silence filling the room.
Dean nodded along with you before sighing quietly and beginning to stand up.
"Will you stay with me?" The question came out of your mouth before you could stop it. "I mean you don't have to it's just-the-uh-the" You stuttered not sure where you were going with the sentence. Dean's brows furrowed for a brief second before he nodded, to your relief.
You smiled at him and pulled your feet back under the covers as he walked around to the other side of the bed, getting in next to you. He wasn't sure where you stood on him, the yelling instance of a few days ago still fresh in his mind.
You, however, decided to ignore any possible consequence and set your head on his chest, wrapping your arms around him. He was surprised at first, unable to get your scared face out of his mind, but soon wrapped his arm around you. He placed a soft kiss to your forehead before drifting off to sleep.
-
You woke with your head laying on the opposite side of the bed as your body. You pushed yourself up and yawned before rubbing the sleep from your eyes.
You frowned as you remembered how you feel asleep, or rather who with. You ran your fingers over the now cold spot in the sheets. You tried to convince yourself that it was for the best, that it stopped you from getting too attached, that he obviously wasn't that into you.
You dragged yourself out of bed and walked to the door, pulling it open to come face to face with two young women.
"Uh-hello" You stuttered.
"Hello" They answered in unison with smiles on their faces "We were instructed to help you get dressed but not to wake you up."
"Wow-uh-thanks" You answered unsure of what else to say "But I think I can dress myself."
The two looked at each other with curious eyes "but we were instructed to help you"
"How about you show me to the clothes then I dress myself?" You tried.
They shared another look before nodding. They walked through the door, opening one of the closet doors revealing rows of elegant dresses.
You felt your jaw drop as you saw them, absolutely mesmerized by them "Uh-which one should I pick?"
They grinned at each other before one walked over and pulled out one of the dresses.
You grinned back at them "Perfect"
-
You dressed yourself relatively quickly, most of your time actually spent just looking at yourself in the mirror, almost unable to believe that it was your reflection staring back at you.
Once you were finally satisfied you walked out of the room, this time met face to face with a rather handsome knight.
"I'm here to escort you to breakfast" He smiled offering his arm to you.
You smiled back and took it. He led you swiftly through the halls, conversation so minimal that it was almost inexistent, but it wasn't too bad of a walk.
You were led through two large, heavy wooden doors and into a large dining room. A long table was adorned with countless breakfast dishes as Sam, Dean, and the king sat at it.
You smiled to the knight and slowly walked across the room, unsure of where you were supposed to be. Dean, however, took care of that uncertainness by getting up and offering you his arm, leading you to a chair next to his and pulling it out for you.
"Y/N correct?" The king asked you.
"Uh-yes your highness" You answered immediately.
He smiled at you and nodded "Well please eat, god knows we have more than enough food" He chuckled at his own joke prompting a chuckle from you as well.
You stole a look at Dean out of the corner of your eye as a plate was placed in front of you. He avoided your gaze as he stayed focused on his father's and brother's conversation, unsure of what to do. Sure you had opened up to him last night again but he still couldn't forgive himself for scaring you like he did.
You watched as Dean moved his hands down to his lap, fiddling with them in an almost nervous fashion. You slowly reached over and covered one of them with your own. He froze under your touch for a brief moment making you think you had made a mistake before he took it.
You bit back a smile only to be pulled out of your own mind by the king as he addressed you.
"So Y/N-" He began, nonchalantly taking a bite out of his food "I don't mean to be rude but how long do you plan on staying"
Dean immediately tensed, his hand tightening on yours.
"Oh-I'm so sorry I did not mean to intrude" You rambled immediately.
"Oh no it's no trouble" He waved you off "I just wanted to be able to give the maids an approximation for how long they should keep on having to clean the room." He paused, chuckling to himself for a moment "It's not as if you'll be staying forever"
You let out your own awkward chuckle as Sam shot Dean some sort of look. Dean, on the other hand, kept his jaw clamped shut as his hand tightened further on your own.
"I will try and get out of here as soon as possible" You assured him, ignoring the puppy dog eyes Dean was shooting you "I just need to find a place to stay first"
"Please stay as long as you need" He smiled at you as you nodded along.
"Uh-Y/N I have a place in the palace I would love to show you" Sam spoke up, not taking his eyes off of his brother as he shot him a look who's meaning you couldn't discern.
"Uh yeah sure" You agreed, standing up and only letting go of Dean's hand at the last moment.
You followed Sam out of the room as Dean and his father stayed put.
-
Dean sat in silence for a while with his father, the only sounds being the clanking and scraping of knives and forks on plates.
Finally Dean broke the silence, not looking up at his father as he spoke "so are you that desperate to get rid of her?"
The king sighed "I knew I had struck something when I asked that." He set his silverware down and looked squarely at his son "Look Dean she's a nice girl and I'm absolutely thrilled that you're helping her but she needs to leave before people get the wrong idea"
"The wrong idea?" Dean grunted, not trusting himself to look up from the plate without looking up.
The king sighed again, running a hand over his face "Yes and you know what I am talking about. A mysterious woman around your age is brought into the castle and doesn't leave for a while. I just want to make sure people of quality know that you are still available"
"And what if I'm not?" Dean responded immediately
"Not what?"
"Available" He answered simply.
"For god's sake Dean" The king sighed "You aren't seriously telling me that you're in love with this girl!"
"So what if I am?"
"You've known her for less than a week! Are you telling me that you're her Romeo and she your Juliet? Need I tell you how that story ends?!"
"Look you told me to find a bride and I have, I don't see the problem"
"Don't see the problem" The king muttered under his breath "The problem is that she's not nobility. I've already told you what must happen..."
"No you told me that you'd give me time to find someone I love" Dean cut him off angrily.
"And I never thought you'd pick someone of such a low standing" The king spat "Dean you are a prince and with that title comes responsibilities, one of those being to marry a princess"
Dean locked his jaw and stood up so fast that his chair knocked back, walking briskly from the room.
"You don't even know her!" The king called after him though Dean ignored every word.
You walked with Sam through the halls, your arm linked in his as he led you around, no destination in mind.
"I apologize for what my father said" Sam spoke causing you to sigh.
"You need not apologize" You assured him "He was right, I'm a guest who has overstayed her welcome"
"You and I both know that you are more than a guest" Sam replied, neither of you making eye contact.
You sighed a little "Sam, but I am just a guest" From the corner of your eye you saw him slump his shoulders slightly "This is a royal palace, you guys are royalty. Me? I'm a peasant, the palace's charity case"
"Is that what Dean said" Sam whispered, only loud enough that you weren't sure you were supposed to hear it. As a result you decided to ignore it, instead focusing on your walk. Consequently Sam spoke up seconds later "For the record I'm going to miss you"
This brought the corners of your mouth up involuntarily "I'm going to miss you too"
At this Sam chuckled slightly "If Dean can't do it I'll date you if I have to"
You looked up at him, eyebrows raised "I appreciate your sacrifice"
Sam's face dropped as he realized what he sounded like "No-no I didn't" He immediately began stuttering.
"Please Sam I think you've said enough" You mumbled, biting the inside of your cheek to contain your laughter.
Sam nodded and kept walking, completely silent before he couldn't take it anymore "I swear I didn't mean it like that. It would be an honor to date you"
You looked up at him and burst out laughing, he looked confused for a moment before realization hit him. He shook his head and chuckled "You're messing with me"
You nodded as he chuckled slightly. "God I'm going to miss you" He whispered pulling you into a hug. You happily returned it, wrapping your arms around him and burying your face into his chest.
"I'm going to miss you too"
"You know you don't have to go" He whispered back as you pulled back from him.
"I do though" He sighed again, knowing he wasn't getting anywhere with you "I think I can just stay with Richard"
He nodded and bit his tongue to keep from arguing further, instead opting to change the subject "So how would you like to see the library?"
"I'd love too" You answered immediately, looping your arm with his.
You were about to turn the corner when you were stopped by your name being called. You turned around to see Dean running in your direction.
A wide smile crossed Sam's face as he took a step away from you, not that you noticed. You were too entranced with Dean. He dashed towards you, barely slowing down as he neared. In one swift move he picked you up, spinning you around in the air earning high pitched squeals from you.
When he had finally stopped spinning you both had huge smiles on your faces, light hearted chuckles falling from your lips, and were panting slightly.
Dean kept you in his arms, your toes just skimming above the floor. "I love you" He breathed out catching you by surprise.
"I love you too" The words slipped past your lips before you could stop them. This wasn't supposed to go like this, it was supposed to be a clean break, keep as much of your heart, and his, intact.
You watched as his smile got even bigger, it was then that you decided that you didn't regret those words, not if they brought him this much happiness.
You froze as you watched him slowly dip his head towards yours. You panicked as you saw him pucker his lips slightly, you had never kissed anyone before. However, before you could do anything his lips grazed yours. Your eyes fluttered closed on their own accord. His lips moved slowly and softly as you moved yours to match. The world around you dissolved and you became lost in him.
All too soon your lungs began to burn from lack of air. You reluctantly pushed back from him, climbing down from his arms, though he kept you close, your forehead resting against his.
You chuckled slightly as he did the same. You were about to speak up when he beat you to it "Marry me"
The words were few, they came out breathy, and they were light, and yet the still carried so much weight.
You pulled back from him, your eyes searching his as his searched yours. "Dean" You breathed out.
"Just-just wait" He begged you, taking both your hands in his "I know it's soon, I mean I just learned your name a few days ago" He chuckled at his own joke as you couldn't help but do the same "but I know that I love you, I love you more have I have ever loved anyone and if there is anyone I want to spend the rest of my life with it's you" A blush dusted your cheeks as he talked giving him more confidence "So please just consider it"
You sighed, looking deeply into his brilliant green eyes "Dean" You sighed again causing Dean's face to drop "I have considered it, and it can't happen"
"But why not" He mused, cupping your cheek with one hand as you unconsciously leaned into his touch.
"Your father is right" You sighed, nearly choking on the words as you said them "You're royalty and I'm just-"
Dean cut you off "No don't say it" He urged you "You're more than that. God Y/N you are so much more you just need to look past this-this barrier"
"Dean this isn't a barrier you can just look past" You said, a lump forming in your throat "We just can't be together"
"No it is a barrier we can look past" He insisted "All you have to do is choose to, I know I already have and after we do so the rest will follow"
You looked at him skeptically "And besides Y/N you are so much more than your class. You are funny and sarcastic and witty and beautiful and kind and strong and so many more things!"
You bit your lip to keep yourself from smiling too big as Dean continued on "Besides I don't want royalty, I want you. I want you for everything you are, not something you're not"
You began to nod your head slowly "Ok" You answered simply.
"Ok?" Dean asked, more out of disbelief than anything "Is that a yes?"
You laughed and nodded "I would love to marry you"
Dean stared at you for a moment, disbelief evident on every feature as the corners of his mouth slowly inched their way up. You laughed again and put your hands on either side of his face, bringing his lips down to meet yours.
You had meant for it to be a quick celebratory kiss though Dean had other plans, he put his hands on your hips, bringing you further into him before gracefully lifting you up causing you to giggle into the kiss. You, in turn wrapped your legs around him, never once breaking it. Dean softly pushed you against the wall, letting it support some of your weight before you were interrupted by someone clearing their throat.
You and Dean both broke apart reluctantly, though you stayed supported on the wall, to see Sam looking at you with a big smile on his face, behind him most of the palaces staff, equally big smiles on their faces. Upon seeing your recognition of their presence the staff burst into applause causing your cheeks to redden. Dean began to laugh and you soon followed suit, hiding your head in his shoulder.
Dean carefully set you down and the two of you made your way to the middle of the hallway, making dramatic bows and waves once you got there. He spun you around before pulling you into him, you laughing the entire time, before he led you down the hall.
You let out a few last chuckles and leaned your head on his chest as he wrapped his arm around your waist. "What are we going to tell your father" You mumbled into his chest.
He chuckled slightly, the vibrations in his chest causing your head to bob slightly. "I have a plan for that."
-
You walked through the streets, hand in hand with Dean, for everyone to see. Jealous girls glared in your direction while others gossiped, their heads clumped together as not so quiet whispers flowed from their lips.
You watched them with uneasy eyes. You could feel them watching you, judging you. Dean watched you, a small frown on his face as he watched your features drop. He gave your hand a squeeze drawing your attention back to him.
You peaked up at him out of the corner of your eye to see him send you a quick wink. Needless to say it did nothing to calm you. His frown deepened and he leaned down, whispering in your ear "They are going to love you."
You looked up at him skeptically as he smiled at you. You shook your head, looking around before ushering him into a secluded alley.
"What if they don't" The words left your mouth in a rushed whisper.
"Slow down" He whispered, cupping your cheek and waiting for you to take a deep breath "Now tell me what is wrong"
"What if they don't like me" You said, your breaths rushed and shaky "What if they all hate me"
"Hey that won't happen" He assured you "They are going to love you"
"But how can you know that?" You sighed, breaking back from him "What if they don't see me but they just see that I'm not the same class? What if they-" You rambled only to be cut off by Dean's lips connecting with yours.
You gasped slightly as he pulled back your eyebrows raised "What did we say?" You looked at him, still wide eyed, still not used to that not uttering a word "If we look past the barriers they will too" You shook your head, opening your mouth to object except Dean beat you to it "And before you object it does work that way, trust me when I say that they will see you for you."
You frowned slightly, wanting to say so much though keeping your mouth shut, knowing he had more to say "You are beautiful, you are smart, you are amazing and that is what they will see." He calmed you, his deep velvety voice instantly crushing any doubts. If this amazing man loved you how could they not?
You chuckled slightly, doing your best force the lump down your throat as a few stray tears streamed down your face. Dean chuckled slightly in response, cupping your cheek again and rubbing away the tears with his thumb.
"Ok now tell me again" He whispered with a grin on his face causing you to giggle.
"I would love to marry you" You recited an equally big grin on your face.
His smile got bigger as he pulled you into a hug "I love hearing you say that" He whispered.
"I love saying it" You chuckled, pulling back just enough to connect your lips to his again.
Dean smiled into the kiss, reluctantly letting you pull back and lead him out of alley.
You were both fully aware of the eyes on you as you left it. Of the small smiles on some faces and the jealous scowls on others.
"You ready?" He whispered, giving your head another squeeze.
You nodded your head and he grinned, stopping you in your tracks.
"Ok" He whispered before speaking louder "Y/N" He put extra emphasis on your name, chuckling slightly as he said it, a sort of inside joke between the two of you. "I have a confession to make" You nodded with his words as a crowd gathered around you. "I love you" The words came out softer, sweeter, and that was when you knew he was speaking to you, not to the crowd of people whom you were here to talk in front of, but to you. These words were his and they were yours, no one else's.
"God you have no idea how much I love you" His eyes glassed over and you were sure yours did the same, "I love you enough to hope that you will not care that I am being selfish in trying to make the rest of my life happy by spending it with you" You swear you could feel your heart stop, your breathing stop, everything stopped "And I just hope you want to spend yours with me too" He pulled up on his pants slightly, giving him enough range of motion to kneel to the ground, pulling out a box in the process.
You thought you would be ready, after all this was the plan, you knew all about it. But you weren't. Even prior knowledge couldn't stop the tears that streamed down your face.
And there they were, four little words, the same soft lighthearted pretense with a much deeper, more passionate meaning "Will you marry me"
This time there was no hesitation, no debate, no argument, there was one word you wanted to say. One word that easily danced over your lips. "Yes" The word flowed easily from them, in an almost sob.
Dean grinned and easily slipped the ring over your finger. It fit perfectly, as if it were meant for you. Which in a way you believed it was, or at least liked to believe it was. Dean sprung up from his kneel and took your face in his hands, pressing his lips to yours.
You loved this part, kissing him. He was soft, he was sweet, and he was yours. This man, this amazing, gorgeous, brilliant, sexy man was yours, forever. And you were his.
He pulled back, you reluctantly doing the same and just stared at each other, lost in each other. Only when Dean grinned did the rest of the world appear to you.
Clapping; the sound filled the air around you, taking you by surprise. You looked around at the people surrounding you and saw nothing but smiles. There were no judgmental faces, no jealous scowls, not even a frown, just happy faces.
You looked up at Dean to see him already looking at you, a soft smile on his face. He mouthed an 'I told you so' causing you to laugh. You took the extra step forward and threw your arms around him. Never have you been so happy to be so wrong.
-
You squealed in delight as Dean swiftly picked you up bridal style mere steps from the front gates of the castle. "What are you doing?" You laughed as Dean threw you up in the air slightly in order to get his hands in a better position.
"I believe this is customary" He replied with a smug smile.
"Yes after the wedding" You giggled throwing your arms around his neck to give yourself more balance.
"Sorry" He winked carrying you up the steps "I got excited.
You gazed up at him, a wide smile on your face prepared to say something when you watched his face fall. With a curious look you followed his gaze to see the king standing in front of you.
"I hear congratulations are in order" He said through a clenched jaw.
"Dad I-" Dean began, letting you down only to be cut off by the king raising his hand.
"Throne room, now" Was all he said before turning around, leaving you and Dean to follow him.
-
"...COMPLETELY IRRISPONIBLE AND STUPID..." To be honest you weren't entirely sure what the king was saying at this point. All you knew was that Dean was holding your hand, albeit discretely and behind your back but it didn't matter, his simple touch told you that you were going to be ok.
"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" Dean spoke to answer the king's question meaning you didn't have to, which was good considering you didn't think you'd be able to. You couldn't help but think of how drastically your life had changed in such a short time. If you had told yourself a month ago that today you would be yelled at by the king for marrying the prince you wouldn't have believed it. Being yelled at by your mother, well that you counted on.
"Dean get out I need to speak with Y/N" The sound of your name brought your attention back to the conversation. Dean was by your side for quite some time before he gave one last squeeze and dropped your hand, leaving.
The large doors shut behind him signaling his newfound absence from the room as you played with your fingers behind your back, a tingling sensation left behind by Dean's touch and a large metal cool band now around your finger kept your attention.
"What do you want?" The question was frank and to be honest it was fair. You came from nothing so naturally it would be assumed your every action was a response to some desire previously considered unattainable.
You brought your hands out from behind your back and looked down at them, spinning the ring on your finger, thinking about your answer before voicing it "Dean"
The king visibly rolled his eyes and sighed, a reaction you were expecting "If it's money I can give you that just leave my boy out of it"
You let your hands fall and made eye contact with the king "With all due respect your majesty I don't want anything, not riches not power, I want Dean." A warm smile crossed your face as you continued "I want his charm, I want his smile, I want his laugh, I want the way he makes me laugh, I want the bubbly sensation that occurs in my stomach when he is around" You got lost in your own words,"I just want him"
"You don't expect me to believe that do you?" The king asked in not a disgusted or disapproving voice but rather out of desperation. He needed to believe that you had another motive, that you could give him a reason to stop the wedding.
"Honestly no, but it's the truth" You shrugged, surprised at the calmness you've been able to maintain throughout this conversation "I really do love your son, and I think he loves me too."
"Ok if you do love him as you say give me a reason" the king began, sitting down on his throne, a sort of exertion of power, a way to show you that you were powerless in this room. "Tell me how did you know?"
"I wish nothing more to tell you a long and enchanting love story" You sighed, admitting it honestly "to tell you that I had fancied him for quite some time, that I nearly fainted when he first talked to me, how every conversation after that sent butterflies flurrying in my stomach." Your words issued another smile on your face as your gaze became fixed at the base of his throne, not making eye contact. "But it wouldn't be true. There is no story, I just looked at him one day and I knew. He picked me up when I was down and brought me back to life." You chuckled slightly "I was as unburdened as a piece of dandelion fluff, and he was the wind that stirred me about the world"
You sighed once more, this one a much happier and lighthearted sigh, finished with your speech and looked hesitantly back up at the king to see his slouched back in his chair, any unspoken exertion of power long forgotten as he pondered over your words "I can see why he likes you" His words caught you by surprise. "I'm going to be perfectly frank with you, I hope you do not mind" He warned you as you nodded, not trusting your voice "I told him to find love, never thinking that he would actually find it, never mind that he would love someone like you." He shrugged again, not making eye contact "I thought I knew you from the beginning, that you wanted nothing more than the throne, that you were a mere peasant not worthy of sweeping the floors"
The confession hit you at your core as you forced yourself to stand tall, to take everything he said with an unreadable expression "However when I first met you at breakfast you were-" He paused chuckling at the memory "To my surprise, polite, even despite my forward and inconsiderate comment. However, admittedly I still did not trust you but now-" He paused again talking a breath "Now I see that it is not you that got lucky but him." Your eyebrows shot up on their own accord "You are everything I had ever hoped for Dean to find and more."
"And I know that any man, no matter their status, would be lucky to have you" Your heart dropped with your gaze as he said this, thinking that he still didn't approve. "Including my son" The finish of his sentence surprised you as your gaze shot back up to his to see him leaning forward in the throne, a soft smile on his face "And if you would allow me I would be honored to hand you off to him, as your future father-in-law"

Wedding day

"Are you ready for this" His deep smooth voice did little to soothe you at the moment.
"No" You answered honestly. His deep chuckle filled the room bringing a small smile to your face. "What are you?"
"Yes" His answer was immediate and, like yours, completely honest "I've been ready since the day I met you". His words brought a light blush to your cheeks as you bit your cheek in an unfruitful attempt to keep from smiling to big.
"You're beautiful" His voice was breathy, raw emotion seeping into his words. You looked at yourself in the mirror across the room, your hair up in curlers and your make up not even half way done.
"You can't even see me" You giggled.
"I know" He grunted "Which is a stupid rule by the way" You laughed harder, leaning back slightly so that your back leaned against his. "but I know you" He continued "and you're always beautiful"
Another blush crept across your face as you tried to keep it from getting too big. You were never good at taking a compliment, so instead you focused on the other part of his sentence "You know it's bad luck to see the bride on the day of the wedding"
"We don't need luck" You could hear the smirk in his voice and that is what calmed you, it was familiar, comforting.
"Maybe not but it's like an unspoken rule"
"Well I like to think rules were made to be broken" His voice was soft and right in your ear, catching you off guard. Though not as much as when you felt his arms wrap around your waist as he pulled you into him. Your back hitting what you now knew to be his chest.
"Dean" You squealed trying to fight back your laughter in vain. You reached behind yourself and poked Dean in his side causing him to hold onto you tighter as he laughed. He placed a feather light kiss to your cheek before letting you go, spinning you around so that you faced him.
"What did I say" He grinned bringing a hand up to your cheek "beautiful" he breathed out before dipping his head slightly, prepared to press his lips to yours though you moved yourself away from him, sending him your best glare as he did his best puppy dog eyes.
"I'm sorry for ruining our luck" He pouted, reaching out for you trying to pull you back into him. You simply stepped back, crossing your arms and raising an eyebrow at him "Please just one"
You could fight back the small giggle that escaped your lips bringing a smile to his face once again "then you have to go get ready" you negotiated.
He didn't answer, just grabbed your arm, pulling you into him. Your arms came up to wrap around his neck as his hands went to your hips, pulling you together until there was no space between the two of you.
Your lips worked in sync until you couldn't take being without air for much longer. Reluctantly the two of you pulled back from each other. He reluctantly stepped back, never once taking his eyes off of you until he was out of the room.
You couldn't have wiped the smile off of your face if you had tried, Dean just had that effect on you.
-
You stood in front of that same mirror, though this time your hair was down, you had a full face of makeup, and your wedding dress was sitting on the chair next to you.
You couldn't bring yourself to put it on, still unable to get over the feeling that you didn't deserve this much. You were a nobody who had to deal with a crappy childhood. You got lucky, really, really lucky.
Though did all of this luck constitute the result, did you really deserve the world's best person as a husband, the world's prettiest dress as a wedding gown, or the world's largest wealth as your inheritance.
In your mind the answer was no. It was when you thought of things such as this that you could hear her again. Your mother, her words still cutting through you to this day. "He could have anyone why would he pick you?" "He saw who you truly were and he pitied you" "Why would he pick the stupid, ugly, poor, nobody?"
These words sent shivers up your spine as you looked at your reflection. She wasn't wrong, he literally has no reason to pick you, you are nothing and he everything.
A knock on the door pulled you from your thoughts. "Come in"
The door was pulled back and through it emerged the king, a soft smile on his face as he opened his arms, bringing you into a quick hug which you happily accepted.
"Is that it" He nodded towards the dress lying on the chair and you nodded "Richard has really outdone himself"
You smiled, taking a step back to really admire the dress. He wasn't wrong, if you had thought the dress for the ball was magnificent it was nothing in comparison with this. A bright stunning white color, a perfect balance between simplicity and sparkles, between poof and slimmer edges that hugged your figure in the right places. It was perfect.
"Yeah he did" You answered with a small smile.
The king nodded with you before clearing his throat softly, drawing your gaze from the dress up to him. He smiled at you before raising a small flat box up in the air, a box you hadn't noticed before.
You furrowed your eyebrows at him though he simply grinned motioning for you to open it. Carefully you pulled on the end of the bow, it unraveling softly before you pulled the ribbon off of the box and lifted the lid, inside a simple elegant veil sat folded neatly.
You gasped softly at the sight of it, looking up at the king who had a soft sentimental smile on his face as he looked at it. "It was mar-" He stopped suddenly, swallowing loudly before continuing "the queen's"
Your mouth dropped open "Oh you don't have to I mean-" You immediately began, seeing how he looked at it, as if it were a part of her.
He raised a hand to silence you before speaking "Please, if she were here she would give it to you herself"
You smiled, running your fingers through it carefully "May I" The king asked motioning towards the veil as you nodded and handed it to him, turning around.
"Uh excuse me if it's crooked or something." He grumbled as he carefully slid it into your hair chuckling slightly "It's not as though I have a lot of practice with these"
You would have laughed if you were not speechless at the sight of it on you. It dropped down around you, flowing around your figure perfectly making even the old dress you currently wore look elegant. "It's perfect"
The king chuckled again "She spent forever picking one out" you could see the faint tears in the corners of his eyes in the mirror.
You smiled turning around to face him once again "thank you."
He smiled and nodded "So have you decided who you want to walk you down the aisle?"
Your gaze immediately flew to the ground as you began playing with your hands nervously "uh yeah I think I'm going to ask Richard to." You said cautiously not wanting to upset the king "It's just he's really the only person I've ever considered to be family. He was more of a parent than my mother ever was" The last part slipped out on accident, you had never meant to unload that much on him though he didn't seem bothered by it.
"Have you been down to see her?"
It was a fair question though it made your skin crawl and you shifted uncomfortably "Uh no. I've thought about it but I-" You paused taking a deep breath, forcing yourself to remain calm "I just can't"
"And you don't have to" He was quick to supply upon seeing your distress "It's just that it's your wedding day and you are going to look beautiful, might be a good time to rub it in"
You chuckled softly, your spirits lifting slightly. "Thank you"
"It was my pleasure" He grinned before walking to the door opening it and stopping in the door way "I'm serious about seeing her though. You don't have to but you might want to"
You nodded "I'll keep that in mind"
He shot you a tight lipped smile before leaving, shutting the door behind him leaving you alone with your wedding dress.
-
The winding staircase was dimly lit as you did your best to carefully make your way down it, not an easy task in heels and a dress that didn't allow you to see your feet.
Nevertheless you made it to the bottom, the concert floor supplying you with a large clicking sound each time you took a step.
Helpless criminals reached out for you as you passed, their dirty, bloody hands reaching through the iron bars of their prison in an attempt to grab you though you sidestepped each one of them. There was one person you were here to see and it wasn't them.
You knew when you had reached the correct cage, this one being the only one containing a prisoner who didn't reach out for you.
Crouched in the middle of the room sat your mother, her hair messy, her skin dirty and her figure thin. However, despite all of these obvious signs of imprisonment she still carried about herself as if she were in charge.
"What do you want?" Her voice was nasally and bitter, though she never turned her head to look at you.
You said nothing, unsure of what to say. To be honest you weren't sure why you were here. This woman has brought you nothing but pain and misery, so why go back to her?
"Are you deaf?" She roared, standing up and spinning around, her face showing obvious signs of surprise as she recognized you "Y/N"
You clenched your jaw and swallowed, sending her a curt nod "mother"
"I see you're getting married" There was no proud tone in her voice, no happiness, no remorse. "I must say you make a bea-" She stopped mid word, her eyes raking up and down your body before she continued "uh-bride"
You rolled your eyes and sighed, should you have expected anything less?
"So who's the man?" she asked, purposefully leaving out the customary 'lucky'. Every diction choice of hers used in effort to demean you in any way possible "let me guess, the stable boy"
"The prince" Your words left your mouth in a hurry, your mind eager to prove her wrong.
She stared at you in shock, her eyes widening slightly and her jaw dropping though she quickly composed herself, instead breaking out into a hideous cackle "Right ok"
"It's true" You were quick to defend yourself, to rub it in her face. You had succeeded where she had failed.
"Oh no I'm sure it is" She said casually, resting her body against the iron bars and picking at her fingernails, a smug smile on her face "Just don't come crying to me when he leaves you at the alter"
You swallowed hard. You had expected harsh words, lies, but that didn't make them any less painful, "No he wouldn't do that"
"And tell me: why not?" She mused, still picking at her nails. "Let me guess, he really loves you"
You opened and closed your mouth, unable to form any words to defend yourself. She looked up at you with a smirk "That's what I thought. You see he doesn't really love you and how could he. You are nothing" She spoke calmly, as if you were talking about the groceries and not tearing at your self-confidence "And I think you know this"
You furrowed your eyebrows at her, waiting for her to continue "See that is why you are here. You know you don't deserve him, that he can do so much better than you and so you came crawling back here. Crying to mommy so that she can assure you that you are making the correct decision."
"No I-" You started but was forced to stop, unsure of what to say. Was that why you were here? Granted what she had told you wasn't anything you hadn't already told yourself but did you really believe it? Or worse was it true? "You're wrong" The words you had meant to be strong, to be demanding, to put her in her place came out, instead, weak and desperate.
She suddenly turned her body, gripping the hard metal bars tightly and bringing her face up to yours "How could I be. You are a pathetic, ugly hag who deserves to die alone" Her words were hushed and quick as you did your best not to recoil "I know it, you know it, he knows it, hell everyone in the whole kingdom knows it"
"No" It seemed to be the only word you could think of at the moment.
"You know what they say," She sighed "Fool me once shame on you'. Now you ever thinking Dean could love you, that was them fooling you. I think a wedding constitutes a fool me twice"
You clenched your jaw, regretting ever having come down here. You grabbed at the end of your dress, pulling it up enough for you to turn around, you had to go, couldn't be late for your own wedding.
"Of course I could be wrong" Her voice rang through the halls, stopping you in place.
-
"Are you sweating?" Sam's voice was teasing as he watched Dean, making their way to their places at the end of the aisle.
Dean couldn't help but bring a hand up to his forehead, sure enough it came back slightly damp "Shut up"
Sam laughed, amused at his brothers behavior "Why are you so nervous?"
Dean shrugged, unsure himself as to why he was nervous. "It's my wedding day, can't I be nervous?"
"I guess" Sam shrugged "I just don't see why you would" He paused for a moment, chuckling to himself "It's not as if she's going to leave you at the alter"
Dean clenched his jaw, throwing his hands in his pockets and looking down at the ground.
"That's it?" Sam asked in surprise, his smile dropping immediately as he saw Dean's face "You know she would never do that to you."
"Why not?" He responded, not raising his gaze to meet his brother's "I mean I practically had to beg her to say yes, what's to stop her now?"
"Dean" Sam sighed "You know she loves you too right? I mean the only reason she said no the first time was because dad didn't approve. Now that he does she's ok. She's not going to bail"
Dean nodded, though remained unconvinced. He took the short steps up to the altar and turned around to face the crowd. Half the seats had yet to be filled, though Dean still stood up there, waiting patiently for the rest of them to show up and the music to start.
Richard, in the meantime, stood just behind the doors in the back of it. Pacing back and forth and checking his watch every few seconds.
You were supposed to meet him in your room 10 minutes ago though when he went up you weren't there. He had figured that you would show up down here but that proved to be a wrong.
He paced a few more times, checking all of the hallways before giving up. He picked a hallway and ran down it, searching each room for you.
-
"What do you mean?" You demanded, stalking back towards her cell to meet her dirty face. A large smirk painted across it.
"Well just think about it, dirty poor nobody abused by mother is taken in by royal family" She mused, doing her best to appear nonchalant.
"So?" You prompted her as she stayed quiet.
She sighed and rolled her eyes "I forgot to add stupid in that definition." She mumbled just loud enough for you to hear "You're their charity case"
"Yeah, I know" You nodded, rolling your eyes.
"And your fine with that?" She questioned, surprised "fine with the prince marrying you simply for some good publicity."
"No" You shook your head, your voice coming out softly as you finally realized what she meant "No that's not why he's marrying me."
"Oh for the love of god" She muttered before yelling in your face "he doesn't love you! No one loves you and the sooner you get that through your thick head the better!"
You felt your chest begin to tighten as your breathing became more labored "N-n-no he-he"
"He what?" She spat, interrupting you "let me guess loves you? Good god you're a lowly peasant, not good enough for the help let alone the prince"
Your chest tightened and your heart raced as the logic of her claims cleared itself to you. You were nothing, hell you've barely met the guy and now he claims to be in love with you? And now you're marrying him because you feel as though you just got lucky? You don't get lucky! Other people get lucky you get a dead father and an abusive mother, not a prince.
Of course you couldn't tell her she was right though. Instead you shook your head, a large lump beginning to form in your throat as you fought back tears.
She smirked at you again as you ran back down the hallway away from her.
"Either it's a joke or merely for publicity!" She yelled after you "no matter what this doesn't end well for you!"
You tried to block out her words, thinking that after all these years you'd be able to. You ran up the steps as fast as you could. In your haste your foot had missed a step, sending you crashing to your hands and knees.
You doubled over slightly, sobs threatening to escape as you forced them back. You carefully brought your hands up to your face to see that your palms were scrapped and bleeding.
Your lip quivered as the words "damn it" escaped your lips. You knelt to your elbows, the lump in your throat becoming painful. "Damn it damn it damn it" You repeated to yourself as your voice came closer and closer to breaking until you couldn't take it anymore.
One tear slipped down your cheek and dripped onto the concrete below, staining it a darker color. Another one followed, and another before you slammed your fist on the ground yelling the words.
Your body shook violently from your sobs and your throat burned from your strangled cries as you tried to keep quiet. Your cheeks long past being damp from your tears.
You saw the passage light up as the door at the top open and loud fast footsteps descend them quickly, though this did nothing to stop your sobs.
-
Dean stood at the front, looking over the crowd as most of the chairs had been filled, his hands shook nervously though he did his best to control it. His body was tense and rigid as he couldn't bring his eyes off of the door in the back, desperate to see you walk through it.
He could almost see you in your dress, or at least what he thought you looked like in it. He knew at least you would look beautiful in it. Admittedly he would think you looked beautiful in anything.
The sound of the organ filled the room, nearly making his heart stop as his gaze became more intense on the back door. All conversation in the room stopped as only the soft creaking of the benches sounded as everyone turned to look at the door. Every second was elongated to a minute in Dean's mind, his only thought at the moment was that he had to see you, to see you smile at him as you walked down the aisle, to hear your light laugh as he whispered something to you during the service, to dance with you afterwards. He needed you.
Dean wasn't aware that he had stopped breathing until his lungs screamed for air as the song droned on, yet the doors stayed closed.
Soft murmurs filled the room though Dean refused to believe what everyone else was thinking. He watched the door, his heart beating so fast he was afraid he would pass out if he had to wait much longer.
Yet the doors stayed closed. He still couldn't believe it, you wouldn't do this to him, would you?
He shot a glance at Sam to see that he was already looking at him, his eyebrows drawn in pity.
The music of the organ stopped as the song ended, every eye in the room was on him, everyone waiting to see what he would do.
His eyes desperately searched the room, hoping to catch a glance of you somewhere in it. Desperate to believe that you were playing a trick on him, that you would pop out and yell surprise.
Though he didn't find you, and his heart dropped to his stomach. His lip began to quiver but he bit the inside of it and fought the urge to wipe a hand over his face. He couldn't show weakness, show defeat, he had to be strong.
His eyes found his fathers and he nearly broke then, his father's face had never shown as much pity as it did then.
He forced his eyes away from the king's before they could become too blinded with tears. He tried to swallow down the lump in his throat that was beginning to be painful as he forced his hands behind his back and straightened his shoulders.
He had to look the part, look strong, even if he felt like he was crumbling away on the inside.
He took in a single shaky breath before stepping down from the altar.
The silence was deafening. The room was so silent Dean could hear his own heart beat, slow and steady. So slow, in fact, that it almost wasn't there.
All eyes were on him, their features twisted in pity though Dean refused to make eye contact with any of them. Instead he kept his gaze on the back door willing you to walk through it. Your dress flowing out around you as you walked. Your skin glowing with happiness. Your grin so big it spread to your eyes, making them sparkle and the corners crinkle slightly.
Yes everyone else had given up on you. But not Dean.
So he stood, frozen in place for several minutes after the song had ended and waited for you to come, a million excuses flying through his mind though none of them being good enough to calm him down.
He made eye contact with Sam next to him. Sam's face, just like everyone else's, had fallen with pity which could only mean one thing, he had given up on you too.
Dean shook his head, still refusing to believe what seemed so obvious. His eyes combed through the room, looking to see if you were hiding.
This had to be some trick, you were hiding in one of the rooms ready to jump out and yell surprise. Or you were testing him, to see how he would react. In dean's mind you could be doing a lot of things but running from him wasn't one of them.
His eyes connected with his fathers in his search, his face showing the same expression as the rest. This is what made it real for Dean.
After all his father was the king, his father knew best. You weren't here. That was a fact, a fact Dean didn't want to admit but a fact nonetheless. The time had passed in which your late arrival could have been explained by some simple mistake.
Dean took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, to make everything look normal as he took a hesitant step down the altar. Then another. Then finally he was down on ground level.
He looked out at the audience, opening his mouth to speak but having to close it as no words came out. His throat tightened around the lump in it as Dean spun around, turning his back to the crowd.
Who cared about trying to seem strong? The woman he loved, who he thought loved him back, had just left him. How was he supposed to remain strong after something like that?
He brought a hand up and covered his mouth as his face broke, his eyes clenching shut as he did everything he could to keep the tears at bay.
The breaths of everyone in the room caught in their throats as they found themselves unable to tear their eyes off of the princes' back.
Everyone's attention was so focused on the prince that no one saw the king slip out through the side door.
-
You tried desperately to keep your cries quiet. You were not about to give your mother the satisfaction of knowing she could still hurt you, even from within a cell.
A door opened at the top of them, light flooding down the dimly lit staircase for a brief second before the door was closed at the top.
Large footsteps descended the stairs towards you, stopping on the stair just above your head but you made no move to see who it was.
Your cries were still relatively loud when you felt the person's large hand clasp your shoulder. You immediately jumped back, a person's touch all too often being with the intent to hurt you.
Your cries stopped though your vision remained blurry from tears as you pushed yourself up against the wall.
"Relax Y/N I'm not here to hurt you." The voice was instantly recognizable to you as you calmed down.
You shut your eyes allowing the pent up tears to fall down your face before opening them again to see Richard standing in front of you, worry evident in his eyes.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, making sure to keep his hands off of you.
"What are you doing down here?" You sniffed, wiping your nose with the back of your hand.
"Trying to find you, you're late" He said, standing up and offering you a hand to help you stand.
"I'm not going" You muttered, staying where you sat.
"What do you mean?" He asked, clearly surprised as he knelt back down.
Your lip quivered slightly as you spoke "She was right Richard. He doesn't want me, why would he? I-I'm not worth him"
"Whoa slow down" Richard spoke softly, running his hand up and down your shoulder soothingly "Who's right?"
"Mother" The simple word made Richards face drop even further.
"You still trust her?" His disbelief was evident "you know she doesn't have you best interests at heart, listening to her does no one any good."
"It doesn't matter whose interests she has at heart" You sighed "All that matters is that her logic is sound. I'm a nobody Richard," You swallowed, willing yourself to stay strong "I'm a peasant and he's a prince. Can you really say that this is going to work?"
"I can" His answer was immediate catching you by surprise "I see the way he looks at you, I know he loves you. I also know that you love him."
You looked up at him skeptically though kept your mouth shut giving him another opportunity to say something.
Richard watched you for a moment before sighing "You and I both know you don't actually care about the wealth difference so do you want to tell me what's really going on?"
You bit your lip, sighing slightly as you did so, before taking a deep breath and speaking "He saved me Richard. I was left at the bottom of the stairs to die and he saved me, never once left my side until I was strong enough to do things on my own." You stopped for a second, not once making eye contact with Richard "but what if that's all he sees me as? What if to him I'm just some poor helpless creature who needs his help and that's why he stays? Not because he actually likes me but he likes the feeling of helping me."
"You know that's insane right?" Richard said immediately though you still didn't look up at him.
"Is it though?" You mumbled "I mean not only am I not royalty but I'm not pretty, I'm not smart, I'm not strong or brave. I'm nothing"
"Y/N you are all of those things and more" Richard spoke softly "Not to mention that Dean saw all of those things in you way before he saved you."
You brought your eyes up to meet his, your brows furrowed with curiosity.
"When we first took their measurements" Richards smile was soft as he looked down on you "Dean couldn't keep his eyes off of you, I don't think he caught a single word I'd said"
A small smile crept across your face as a light blush dusted your cheeks.
"He loves you, he has always loved you. And I'd be willing to bet anything that he's going crazy now that you're late for the wedding."
You chuckled softly as Richard stood up and offered you his hands, this time you took them gladly, allowing him to help you stand up and lead you up the staircase.
You pushed open the door at the top and light flooded around you, making you squint tightly.
You couldn't help but notice, however, how empty the hallway looked, how quiet it was. There were no servants rushing to and fro, no partygoers walking down them and chatting loudly, no music as you had expected there to be.
"I'm not too late am I?" Despite the fact that you were alone you still felt the need to whisper as you looped your arm in Richards as he led you briskly down the hall.
He only shrugged "better late than never."
You reached the entrance to the back of the room to see a guard standing in front of it.
"Excuse me" You said, reaching for the door handle only to have the guard swipe your hand away.
"You may not enter" His words were few but weighted with authority making your brows furrow.
"What do you mean, this is my wedding?!" You said, doing your best to keep your voice under control.
"I am under strict orders to keep you out of this room."
"Whose orders?" Richard demanded clearly as upset as you were.
"Mine" A new voice spoke from slightly further down the hall.
You turned to face this new person to see the king walking towards you. You opened your mouth to respond but closed it as you found yourself at a loss for words.
"I-I've made a mistake" He said, his voice stuttering slightly making it evident he was not used to saying those words. "I thought that if I could prevent you from marrying my son then he would go for someone of royalty" He made no attempt to sugar coat his words as he spoke to you "Though I now see that I have underestimated my sons feelings for you." The king took a deep breath before continuing as you watched him, too surprised by his actions to say anything "I now fear that if you do not marry him he will never be the same again."
He waited for you say something though you simply stared at him, frozen in place. He had lied to you, given you a fake blessing, sent you to your mother in hopes that she could talk you out of the marriage, then he ordered the knights to keep you out of the room. Did he really just expect you to just forgive him?
"Move" You told him, doing your best to keep any anger from your voice.
The king stepped aside, ordering the knight to do the same.
You pushed the doors open, they didn't even squeak as the glided noiselessly over the carpet. The crowd all turned in their seats to face you, half of their faces showing relief, the other half confusion.
Dean, however, stood in the front of the room, his back turned to you. All anger you had felt dissipated immediately as you saw him, here, he was actually here.
You nodded to the woman at the organ, signaling her to start playing. The soft song filled the air once again causing Dean's head to perk up. He made brief eye contact with the woman before turning around, his shoulders slumping in relief as soon as he saw you.
He was about to take a step towards you when Sam grabbed his arm, bringing Dean's attention to him. A few whispers were shared before Dean took the few steps back up to the altar.
You chuckled slightly and sent him a small wave. Dean grinned and waved back to you causing the crowd to laugh, not that you really noticed, you were too entranced with Dean.
You could faintly feel Richards arm wrap around yours as he pulled you forward, your eyes never leaving Dean's.
Richard took your hands in his and spun you around to face him. For the first time since you had walked in your eyes left Dean's as you looked at Richard, a proud smile on his face. He leaned down slightly and pressed a short kiss to your forehead. You grinned and offered him a small nod, a silent thank you.
He nodded back before handing you off to Dean, his large hand capturing yours and holding on tightly as he helped you up the steps.
You made it to the top and stood next to Dean, both of you turned to face the minister but looking at each other from the corners of your eyes.
"You're late" He whispered though you didn't miss the small smile on his face.
"Trust me it was not my idea" You whispered back causing him to chuckle slightly.
"I understand you have written your own vows" The voice of the minster broke through your and Dean's conversation.
"No" You answered at the same time Dean said "Yes"
You turned to face him, doing your best to appear calm despite the fact that you had nothing prepared "I thought we weren't writing vows"
Dean simply grinned and winked at you, taking both of your hands in his and taking a deep breath before speaking.
"My entire life I've been nothing but a prince, royalty whose every action was motivated by what was good for the country." He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing "But with you I am not a prince, I'm not important, I'm simply a man. A man who pales in comparison to you." He had to pause again, another shaky breath passing through his lips "You are beautiful, you are intelligent, you're funny, and kind and if I were to try and write down everything I want to say right now a sea of ink would not be enough" You bit your lip to try and keep your smile from getting to big but you knew it didn't work.
Dean paused, a familiar lump forming in his throat, before he continued "And I know you would call a number of those things imperfections, but no, that's the good stuff, that's the stuff that makes you you, that's the stuff that makes you perfect to me. The fact of the matter is that the first day I saw you I felt drawn to you, this indescribable feeling filled me. And it wasn't until I began to feel physical pain every time I wasn't around you that I realized what had happened."
You could feel a lump in your throat identical to Dean's as tears clouded your eyes, little did you know the audience felt the same way.
"That day my heart made a choice and it chose you, and it makes this same choice every day after."
Dean grinned at you, the same wetness in his eyes as he pulled you in for a hug. You clung to him tightly, forgetting momentarily that the room was filled with other people. Right now was about you and Dean, just the two of you.
After a few moments you reluctantly pulled back. You chuckled softly, sniffing and wiping your eyes carefully to keep from smudging your makeup.
"Now I've got to follow something like that" You joked reconnecting your hands with Dean's.
The crowd gave a lighthearted chuckle as you reconnected your gaze with Dean's as well. "Uh-Dean." You stopped laughing slightly as you realized you had no idea where you were going with this "I'm going to be honest I don't know how to start this...so let's start with the facts. The most basic fact being that I love you, even a blind man could see that. Another fact: You love me, this being proved mere seconds ago." You paused, taking a deep breath before continuing "And now a more depressing fact: I'm poor. And I know you don't like to think about that but it's true, and while you have ignored it I have let it consume me. I wasn't royalty so therefore, in my mind, I wasn't good enough. But you-" You stopped, taking in a shaky breath to try and fight back the tears "You saw me for what I was, not what I wasn't. You looked past every possible hindrance and chose me, and for that I am eternally grateful."
A soft genuine smile had not left Dean's face since you had started talking, giving you confidence to continue "It is in part why I am able to stand up here and have no doubts or worries about the vows I make, because you chose me. Despite all of the hard times I've been though, despite my brokenness you choose me. The fact of the matter is when I was at my worst you picked me up" You couldn't fight back the giggle in your throat as a few tears spilled over "both literally and figuratively. That day you saved my life. Not forever, not for good, probably just temporarily." You admitted honestly "But you saved my life and now I'm yours. That day you made me love you, and after getting to know you better I must admit that it is the greatest thing my heart was ever meant to do"
Dean grinned at you, a few tears of his own spilling down his face as he brought a hand up to your cheek, cupping it briefly and wiping at the tear stains on it.
The minister carried on with the ceremony and you were sure it was a beautiful one though you can't guarantee you heard all of it. Your only other concrete memory of it being when he announced "You may kiss the bride" and Dean connected your lips to his before the sentence was even over.

The little girl ran around the room, squealing loudly as Sam chased her. Her favorite bear in his hand as he made monster noises.
"Mommy save me!" She giggled as she ran towards the spot where you sat on the ground.
You laughed and opened your arms for her to run into, Sam following right behind her. You quickly wrapped your arms, pinning her's in place.
"I've got her" You chanted to Sam as she squealed even louder, squirming to get out of your grasp.
Sam laughed evilly, his approach getting slower until he suddenly pounced, dropping the bear on the floor and tickling the little girl causing her squeals and laughter to get louder.
The door to the room opened in shut softly, the sound not heard by anyone within the room.
"Sounds like someone's having fun" His voice, however, captured everyone's attention, including the little girls.
"DADDY!" She screamed. She was out of your grasp in less than a second and sprinting towards him.
Dean knelt to the ground and held his arms open, the little girl running right into them, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Did you bring me anything from your trip?" She asked excitedly.
"Of course I did" He chuckled, reaching into his bag and extracting a small intricate doll.
"She's so pretty" The girl breathed out, completely entranced with it as she took it from Dean's hand and sprinted into the other room, Sam following after her.
Dean chuckled as you did the same, groaning as you started to get up.
"Careful!" Dean immediately cried as he rushed to your side, helping you up.
"I think I can stand myself up" You laughed as a hand flew to your back, providing yourself some extra support.
"That's why you were groaning so loudly" Dean teased as you hit his chest. He laughed and pulled you in for a quick kiss. "I missed you"
"I missed you too" You responded immediate, your hand flying to your enlarged stomach. "And he missed you too"
"So you think it's a he?" Dean laughed, his hand also resting on your stomach.
"Have you felt him kick?" You laughed, moving Dean's hand with you right to where you could feel him kick.
"Atta boy" Dean chanted causing you to laugh.
"What should we name him?" You mused.
Dean only shrugged, a grin so large that it had to hurt on his face as he felt his child's kicks. You watched him an equally big smile on your face, to this day still not believing how you had ever gotten so lucky as to have met him.
