Hades in Haros

A/n: I was talking to my friends and we chatted about Greece when I mentioned how it would've been cool if there was a city-state dedicated to Hades and then I made this in my head yeah enjoy! Haros is the pronunciation of the Greek word χάρος, which supposedly means death but I'm not 100% sure because I don't speak Greek.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Arius's POV:

I looked around at my kingdom with happiness. Persephone has granted us a wonderful harvest this year as well. I walked through Haros with a smile, looking at how my subjects lived their lives in honor.

"You're majesty! The new temple of Hades is ready!" One of my guards ran over to me quickly, but he looked panicked.

"What's wrong?"

"The temple's head priest, he's dying sire."

---

I rushed to the temple with my guard and walked inside, making everyone immediately get out of my path so I could get to the priest. He was laying on the floor in front of Hades's statue. I knelt next to him and took his hand in mine.

"You have done us much service, Father Ky. If this shall be your time, may Hades bless you to a peaceful after life. Should Thanatos be in this room as well, he shall bear witness to our grievance and hear our prayers of sending you to Elysium for such a holy man you were." I said strongly. Father Ky smiled at me.

"Thank you, your majesty." He breathed before closing his eyes, a smile still on his lips. The priestesses began to weep.

"Please ensure that the city knows of our loyal priest's passing so we may all mourn him together, then celebrate his life."

---

I walked through my castle home towards the shrine of Hades inside it and knelt down in front of his statue."Oh Hades, God of The Dead all mighty, please ensure safe passage for the life of our now deceased head priest Ky." I prayed quietly. I stood and placed a basket of pomegranates on the sacrifice shelf and bowed before walking away. I smiled, knowing Hades may be watching me and think about my offer.

---

"Sire," my general walked in with a grim face. "Athens wishes to go to war."

My wife gasped, the cup she was holding falling from her grasp. I stood and took a breath. "I shall ask Hades for help, but if it's a fight they want, they shall receive it."

"Sire-"

"General, I will not sit back and let them take my kingdom and my people, not when our city has stood strongly with all others as our patron." I raised an eyebrow and my general nodded.

"I understand sire." He walked out of the room and I turned to my wife and child, face grim with worry.

"My love and my burden, I am going to war, but may I pass in this battle, rule as if I were still alive." I breathed on my wife's lips. She pulled me in for a gentle kiss and I knelt to reach my daughter's eyes. "Beautiful one, watch over your mother for me while I'min battle."

"Yes Father." She nodded, her eyes mirroring mine. I smiled and kissed her head, standing.

"I am off to pray to Hades, see if he can grant us strength. Then we are going to war." I looked back at my wife and gave her another kiss. "I'll be back."

---

I walked into the temple and was greeted by an old man I hadn't met before.

"Sire, is it true we are going to war with Athens?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"The warriors of Athens wish to destroy our beautiful kingdom for who we worship."

"Hades." I nodded.

"Yes, Lord Hades has been a merciful God to us. He and his wife grant us beautiful harvest yearly and protect us from the wrath of other Gods. Athens wants to take our kingdom, and make it another city to worship Athena, leaving no more Kingdoms to worship Hades, the fairest God in Olympus and the Underworld. I will not let this happen, I will protect our God and Kingdom if it means my death." I finished proudly. The old man smiled.

"You are here to pray for Hades to deliver strength, are you not?"

"I am." I nodded.

"Not to worry my son, I believe Hades has heard your prayers already." The old man said.

"Thank you."

---

The battle was hard to win.

I watched my fellow soldiers be slaughtered all around me and the blood of our enemies be spilled in our land. I grimaced as another man was taken by spear. Was he from my army, was he an enemy? I won't know, not until the battle was over.

The sound of horns  was heard, loud and catastrophic. The ground shook and the dead rose, fighting against those from Athens. I stared at the chaos before going back to battle. With this miracle, we won the war. The dead fell again and my men and I looked at each other in awe.

"Hades was with us tonight men, may we rejoice in this winning and celebrate in the name of Hades!"

"For Haros! For Hades!" My men cheered.

---

After a wonder day of celebration, I returned to the temple of Hades and saw the old man from before.

"We won, or so I heard." The man raised a brow.

"Yes, we did. I want to thank you."

"Thank me?"

"Lord Hades, you heard my prayer and protected your-our kingdom of Haros." I bowed before him.

"King Arius of Haros, you have my eternal blessing." I looked back up and the old man was no longer there, but the smile never escaped my lips for I knew he would be looking over us forever.

---

No One's POV:

"And that is why we pray to Hades." The woman finished her tale to the two children in their beds.

"Did grandpa really meet Hades?" The young boy asked.

"Of course he did."

"Wow, amazing."

"It is, isn't it? Now go to sleep, both of you."

"Yes Mama."

"Goodnight Mama."

"Goodnight my loves."

---

A/n: Yeah, whoop, done! Haros isn't an actual place (sadly) but here is the tale of King Arius and how he protected Haros with the power of Hades!
