Hero's Bane
DarkDisco7 's backstory for Herobrine in "Six Stone Souls" is filled with angst material that's just waiting to be exploited
Idea is not mine. It's DarkDisco7's and if you haven't read her stories yet, check her out after reading this, will ya? Her stories are way more awesome~
Hero's Bane
For as long as young Hero remembers, it's always been just him and Steve.
(He remembers waking to a cold and barren house.
(not home because home wasn't supposed to be that desolate and lonely, it's supposed to be warm, happy, and loving-)
It's dark.
The fireplace has been put out and their parents couldn't be seen nor heard.
Everything is gone.)
(Home is Steve.)
"Hey, Hero!"
He can't remember what his name used to be.
(And honestly? He couldn't be bothered to remember what they called him because as far as he was concerned they never existed in his life.)
But Steve had teasingly called him "Hero" a lot and that's what he started to go by as, much to his brother's surprise and amusement.
(Steve comes out of their shared bedroom, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. His mouth moves and he knows he's calling his name but he can't hear him for some reason.
"Hey-" he still can't hear him, why can't he hear his own name? "-where are Mom and Dad?"
He doesn't answer him. He didn't know what to say.)
"Hero! It's time to go!"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."
"You better be. Or do I have to splash you with milk to get your lazy butt moving?"
Hero gets up from his bed lazily, smiling at the 'threat'. Not that Steve would actually go through with it. His twin was too nice-
The male suddenly gets splashed with said drink and laughter erupts from a similar-looking albeit shorter brunet standing near the edge of the bed.
Okay, maybe he would.

"Hero!"
He pauses and stares questioningly at the sight of the teen who was heaving and panting, no doubt came to find him in a mad dash-
"It's," the younger wheezes, "i-it's Steve."
Hero quickly grasps the young man by the collar of his shirt. "What?! What's happened to Steve?!" His mind seemed to go a mile a minute, grim scenarios entering his mind like wildfire. "Damnit Jerry, tell me!"
A man suddenly bursts into the store in a panic. "Steve's fighting with someone!" He yelled, distress easily distinguish on his features. "I don't know who and why but-" Hero all but drops Jerry to the ground and rushes out the door, pushing the man harshly out of his way. "Ow!"
"Sorry!" the brunet yells back blindly, sprinting to the source of commotion outside.
This was all wrong. Steve was always the calm one. His twin would never use violence when there would always be a more peaceful way to solve matters. He was the one who'd always leap into the fray, swinging his sword everywhere. Rushing in blindly was his job, not Steve's!
He skids to a stop, seeing the massive crowd that Steve and the one he was supposedly fighting had attracted. "Steve!" Hero screams, hoping to get his brother's attention and maybe smack some sense into the idiot. He makes his way through, bodies colliding and space just way too tight to move around in.
The brunet finally manages to get in front of the action just in time to see Steve's diamond pickaxe fly from his twin's hands and land in front of him with a thud.
"Ste-"
The man strikes Steve straight to the heart, blood splattering his chest. Red stained the once blue shirt and the only person Hero ever truly cared about falls to the ground with a painful thud.
Dull and glazed gray eyes gazed into wide and petrified blue.
(no non nonono non no, this wasn't happening, this wasn't happening, the two of you swore, Steve promised that he wouldn't ever leave without you, why did he break his promise, why did Steve let himself get killed-?)
Steve is dead.
Hero doesn't notice anything else. All he could do was stare at the face (that's always been so startlingly like his own but there's always been a minute difference between the two of them that only he noticed) that he'd always had by his side, pale and bloody and lifeless and nOT ALIVE-
(Why did Steve have to leave-?)
"You..." Hero growls, coming closer to the man who had taken his brother's life. "You killed him!"
Hero can't quite remember what happens after that.
He remembers tackling the man to ground, fists flying. Then he gets pulled off the guy by one of the villagers, saying that "it wasn't worth it". He remembers shoving said villager and yelling, "Like the Nether it isn't!" He then pulls Steve's pickaxe from the ground and swears he'll get his revenge.
He flees the village, his need for vengeance clouding his mind.

Maybe he was going insane.
Maybe he wasn't.
Then again, no sane person would dare to seek out the mythical being that had come to gain the moniker of "Entity 303". Sightings had said that it was covered by a wispy white cloak, bright blood-red eyes becoming the last thing you'll see until it strikes.
But he needed to avenge Steve.
Hero stares at his reflection on his (Steve's) diamond pickaxe, the torch he just placed illuminating the dark cave.
The man would pay for killing his brother.
The sound of lava hissing and bubbling reached his ears, a few feet away from him. The torch's flame suddenly dies out, leaving him in the dark once more.
And...Steve would want that, wouldn't he?
(he wouldn't, a small part of him cries, sounding too much like Steve, he'd want you to move on, he'd want you to live your life, he wouldn't want this, wouldn't want you to sell your soul to vengeance, this isn't what he would want-)
Ghostly white flickers in his vision.
"Well, well, it's not often that I get visitors."
Bright red eyes light up the surroundings.
"What is it that you seek, mortal?"
Hero grins maniacally, his search not having been for nothing after all.
After all, revenge was a dish best served cold.
And he's bringing it to him tenfold.
