Everywhere was aflame, broken parts of a machinery burning in a firey crimson. Things were looking bad. Badbadbadnoevenworse--

"Sapphire! Are you here?!"

Ruby couldn't find Sapphire.

She was deeply worried. This was the first time they were unfused since centuries - heck, even millennia ago, and it just HAD to happen in the middle of a crisis. 

The red-colored gem continued searching.

She needed to find Sapphire. She had to see if she was okay, if she was hurt, cause dangit! She was supposed to protect her!

Ruby wanted her Sapphire back.

Maybe it's because she's scared, maybe it's cause, right now, she doesn't feel whole? Incomplete?

'Ruby focus. Just focus on finding Sapphire, just...focus,' Ruby mentally told herself. 'Once you find her, everything'll be fine again.'

Now mind you, Ruby did not forget about the others. She did not forget about Amethyst, Pearl, and Steven - they were capable and besides they're together, they could handle their own - but right now Sapphire was her number one priority.

Ruby heard some footsteps from behind her and gasped. Maybe it is-!

"Sapph-!"

It was Jasper.

The large gem looked menacing surrounded by the flames. Her eyes were wide with insanity and vengance.

Ruby gulped. This, this was bad. She hoped Jasper didn't notice her anxiety (and dare she say it, fear.)

"Well, well, what do we have here? One half of the permafused gem," Jasper smirked.

Unfortunately, it seemed she did.

Ruby flinched. 'Dangit, Ruby calm down. You've faced other gems much stronger than her. You can take her-!' True, she had. But all those times, she had Sapphire with her, whether they were fused or not.

Her attention turned to Jasper as she summoned her helmet and Ruby, shakingly, summoned her own in retaliation.

They charged.

Sapphire was worried.

She had been separated from the others. Her future vision helped her find them.

But not Ruby, her Ruby.

It seemed that this situation was one of the futures she hasn't seen yet and it scared her.

But she had to keep calm, panicking won't get her and the others anywhere.

She lead the others based on some bits of THIS future she'd seen.

"Hey, um, Sapphire can I ask you something?" Steven had spoken somewhere behind her.

Sapphire merely said nothing. Steven would still continue asking his question anyway and Pearl would intervene.

That's what exactly happened.

'I hope Ruby's alright,' Sapphire thought worriedly.

The peaceful quiet was broken by a strikingly familiar pain filled scream.

Steven gasped. "Wasn't that-?"

"Ruby!"

The blue-colored gem ran to the source of the scream. The other Crystal Gems scrambled to follow her and got left behind by a mile.

Jasper held Ruby by her hand. By the hand where her gem was.

"Not so tough now-" Jasper tightened her grip, Ruby let out a whimper. "-are you?"

"Give up. You're alone, you're weak. No one's gonna save you now." The Homeworld gem held her hand even tighter.

Oh Diamonds, it hurt.

Hurthurthurtpainnumbingpainextremelyunbearable--STOPPLEASE.

Ruby screamed.

It was almost like being split apart, almost like your entire being was being fractured by pricking sensations and she couldn't take it anymore--hot tears rolled down her face and her physical form started to glitch and break.

"Ruby!!"

Her vision was blurry but she'd know that voice anywhere.

"Sapph...ire...?"

Sapphire froze. Ruby (her Ruby) was beaten up and held by an enemy who she quite despised.

Ruby's voice was so...unnaturally soft and she seemed so broken and what she'd give to hugherrightnowandmakesureshewasokaybecausesheloveshersomu--

"Ah, the other half of the permafuse." Jasper chuckled. "You're just in time to watch me to crush-" Ruby winced as the grip on her hand tightened. "-your pathetic partner."

"Rub-"

"Sapph...phy..."

It broke Sapphire's heart to hear Ruby like that: broken.

"I'm...glad..." Ruby's glazed eyes stared dazedly at her. "...you came..." She smiled while Sapphire's eye teared up. "I'm...hap-"

CRACK!

The Crystal Gems finally caught up and gasped at the red, shining crystals at the huge Homeworld Gem's feet. Jasper grinned in triumph. And Sapphire?

Sapphire cried and screamed, and charged with a drive of vengeance.
