Monday at my school
(February 26, 2018, at around 11:00 AM is when this takes place)
I'm in my 5th period class (Civics and Government) when the superintendent comes on the intercom saying that we are having an emergency lockdown. Around 10 to 20 minutes before, our class had taken a walk outside. A group of boys helped barricade the door, then gathered at the front of the area that couldn't be seen through the door, wielding chairs, desks, books, anything they could get their hands on, really. One kid grabbed a tripod even!
Why they called the lockdown: a hunter who was red tagging was walking down the highway with a rifle. The state police were called and 10 minutes later, nine police cars came to the school. The nearest state police station is in a town that is around 20 minutes away going at the speed limit. Anyways, the 12 policemen got the hunter on his knees, then searched the surrounding area for more people, as well as having the security guards search the school. One security guard (who happens to know my mom) said that the students were ready to take down the shooter themselves. The kids in woodshop were wielding 2x4s and the kids in the gym were apparently holding hockey sticks over their shoulders to swing at an intruder.
We all then went through ALICE Training in the following days.
