New Doctor Who OC

**Character Name:** Octantis

**Alias(s):** The Astrozoologist, or Astro or just Zoologist for short. The Astrozoologist is quite a mouthful (to say and to type)

**Gender:** Male

**Species:** Timelord

**Age:** Um...about six hundred years old (he's usually quite cautious so some of his incarnations have lasted two hundred years)

**Regeneration:** Fourth (the majority of his regenerations have been caused during his studying of creatures upon dangerous, hostile planets)

**Sexuality:** Asexual, Biromantic

**Personality Traits:** The Astrozoologist is rather an introvert, preferring to socialise within a small group of three or so. Crowds cause him stress, paranoia, and agitation, and he can even become quite snappy, skeptical and irritable if subjected to prolonged exposure within a crowd. He simply finds them overwhelming and they set him ill at ease. Due to possessing the need for personal space, he dislikes being accidentally nudged or jostled, and may become visibly uncomfortable if his personal space is invaded. However, if somebody is in need of help or comfort or such, he will without hesitation quash all discomfort regarding his social/privacy/personal space preferences to help in any way he can. Funnily enough he doesn't usually have any discomfort personally initiating physical contact with others, but he prefers to refrain from doing so without their consent, as he thinks it's hypocritical of him.

The Astrozoologist is observant and intelligent and also analytical, and prefers a logical mindset. Though he is prone to fits of neuroticism and irrationality, he attempts to suppress these traits of his and instead use logic and rationality in his thinking. He's also aware that pessimism simply causes more stress on top of already existing stress, and he believes that optimism makes one unprepared for misfortune. Thus, he favours being a realist.
The Astrozoologist has the tendency to overthink things, which can at times hinder any action from him; which is potentially dangerous in an urgent situation.

The Astrozoologist is quite a creative fellow: he enjoys drawing, painting, singing, making up poems and ditties, sewing, and arts and crafts. Due to the unpredictability of seeing a new creature and having to write about it, The Astrozoologist's sonic is a pencil: it functions as a pencil, but of course has other useful qualities also. He prefers having his sonic as a pencil, for it always fails to draw attention or suspicion. It was his idea to have a sonic appear as a harmless writing utensil, and he's proud it. (Did I say harmless? The graphite is sharp enough to penetrate an eyeball...Just saying...)

The Astrozoologist can be perceived as somewhat socially awkward, for he doesn't interact much with humans or other intelligent aliens. He's just a Timelord who visits various planets and studies the wildlife upon each one. It's his hobby, and his, as one could say, vocation.
He knows a lot of random facts about creatures, earthbound and those not native to earth. He has a study upon his TARDIS which contains all his records made upon different creatures and life forms discovered. This room is very precious to him.

He's rather eccentric, given to bouts of humming, singing, and talking to himself. He's usually quite energetic, and enjoys gesturing with his hands quite a bit: at times he almost seems to be infected with a frenetic energy. He loves unintentional poetry, and poetry in general, and enjoys using alliteration. At times, when he speaks too fast, he makes an accidental spoonerism, which always amuses him.

The Astrozoologist is a pacifist primarily, and believes that violence will simply provoke more violence and then the cycle will never end. But he's not naive and is aware that sometimes talking just doesn't solve everything. Talking is not a guaranteed cure for all the issues in the universe. It's much more complicated.
For this reason he doesn't entangle himself within them, believing that he'll likely worsen the situation. (In self defence, when there's no other option, he might fight back)

The Astrozoologist has a bit of a weird ego. At times he has no issues in stating that he's a genius and that his ideas are genius, and he can genuinely appear proud or even a little arrogant at times. This might be a facade, though, for The Astrozoologist does doubt his knowledge and abilities and can be quite self-deprecating.

Though The Astrozoologist is what could be termed as 'rather physically frail,' he doesn't really like to admit it, believing that such a vulnerability could be taken advantage of. After all, he's a Timelord with a TARDIS and he has a study of information concerning potentially useful lifeforms. He could be a target, and he doesn't want to make himself too easy of a target.

At times he'll use comedy to diffuse a situation, or he'll utilise comedy as a way of shrouding his anxiety and stress. He also possesses a bit of a sarcastic and skeptical streak, and isn't always afraid to convey it.

The Astrozoologist, naturally, loves animals. He's exceptionally keen on gleaning all information possible, and will always record any facts he picks up. He finds animals to be beautiful in their own way, and enjoys admiring their features. Literally, if you present him with a cat, he could spend an hour just watching its movements. A pastime of his is sitting on benches on earth and watching pigeons courting. He finds it incredibly entertaining.

**Affiliation(s):** He doesn't work for, or under, anybody or any group

**Base of Operations:** His TARDIS, a type eighty

**Occupation(s):** Astrozoologist, Zoologist

**Weapon(s):** His sonic pencil, primarily. If the worst comes to the worst he'll potentially turn anything into some makeshift weapon

**Power(s):** The powers associated with Timelords.
Regeneration: He is able to regenerate. Upon receiving a deadly injury, he can avoid death by regenerating; by changing his body and becoming a different person. A nifty way to cheat death. However, for the following twenty four hours he's liable to suffer from regeneration sickness; varying from palpitations to an altered state of mind. Not very pleasant. After the initial transformation, for fifteen hours, he is able to partially regenerate without any additional costs.
The Astrozoologist has two hearts, and a respiratory bypass system allows him to hold his breath for extended amounts of time. He can resist extreme temperatures and radiation without suffering much discomfort (due to being born off of Gallifrey this ability is not quite as advanced as that of Timelords born on Gallifrey.) He can also survive within a vacuum for a few minutes.
If severely injured, The Astrozoologist can enter a comatose state of advanced healing which doesn't cost him regeneration energy. He is also resistant to disintegration attempts...though he is nonetheless hurt by them. He just doesn't disintegrate.
Like all Timelords he is also a telepath, able to read minds by touch, communicate nonverbally, and share memories or information by touch

**Skills/Strengths:** He's intelligent and creative, capable of thinking outside the box when necessary. He's a fast runner and is quite lithe, able to dodge obstacles whilst running at full speed, and his slight stature permits him to gain access to narrow places and such. He has quite good aim, so can use sharp objects as thrown weapons when needed. He has a good memory for random details/facts

**Weaknesses:** He has a lean figure and thus can't boast much muscle strength. At times stress will cause him to enter an irritable temper when a situation is bad. He also can't stand extreme heat very well due to not being born on Gallifrey (he possesses a slighter weaker physiology than Gallifreyan born Timelords) and is prone to regeneration sickness. Generally, he's not as good at coping with extreme temperatures as he doesn't possess the superior physiology of those having been born on Gallifrey. Due to the same reason he's rather frail and falls ill more frequently than a Gallifryan-born Timelord

**Backstory:** The Astrozoologist was born as Octantis, the name given to him by his biological parents. His biological parents were traveling Timelords, hopping from planet to planet and exploring the wide universe. Consequently he was born upon a planet which was not Gallifrey.
As a young child, he was found abandoned and utterly alone upon his deserted home planet by two Gallifreyans who had discovered the planet and were scoping it out, who took pity upon him and adopted him as their own son. They concluded that he was a Timelord, just not one born on Gallifrey, and they had no qualms in accepting him as part of their family.
They returned to Gallifrey, where they integrated Octantis into society. There he grew up, whilst developing his interest in animals and similar lifeforms. He was also taken to the Untempered Schism, and then studied at the Time Academy. A few centuries passed and he graduated.
When the Time War started, though a pacifist, he had no choice but to fight on the side of The Timelords. He abhorred that he had to kill, believing that this violence and war would only lead to further grief and destruction. But he felt forced to act, due to patriotism to his adopted home planet, and race.
His adoptive parents realized the anguish he suffered, and they knew that they would have to send him away, away from Gallifrey, if he was to survive.
They told him to flee in his adoptive father's TARDIS, and that he must continue to live for their sake. Shortly after, they were mortally wounded in an explosion, and failed to regenerate. They both died.
Stricken with grief, and enraged towards the daleks, Octantis fought against them with an intense passion, his hatred for them now personal.
During his battling, he befriended another Timelord who claimed he had a plan, a weapon, which would eliminate the Daleks once and for all. Desperate, irrational with grief and fury and helplessness, Octantis agreed to help the fellow Timelord and they boarded his father's TARDIS and left Gallifrey.
Now hovering nearby in the TARDIS, facing Gallifrey and the Dalek ships surrounding it, the strange Timelord revealed his plan.
He had created a weapon, a weapon of mass destruction, and with it planned to obliterate Gallifrey, and the resulting explosion would destroy the Daleks once and for all. It was a mad plan, an insane plan, a plan which would kill all except for them. But the Timelord didn't care: He called himself 'The Saviour,' and claimed that this was the only solution to the war.
Octantis was horrified upon hearing that this was the fellow Timelord's plan, and he appealed that it was insanity, mass murder, genocide. But the other Timelord wasn't prepared to listen, and aimed his weapon directly at Gallifrey, confidently stating that he couldn't miss, and that he was going to be the one to finally end the war. He would be 'The Saviour.'
Octantis instantly attacked him, aiming to knock the weapon from his grasp. The two wrestled, and in the fight, the Timelord fell from the TARDIS's door and plunged into space. Octantis was injured and fell back onto the TARDIS floor. As unconsciousness enveloped him, he heard distant noises, and a sudden intense sensation of terrible horror accompanied the oblivion which claimed him.
He awoke hours later, and upon investigating found out the TARDIS had sent him to the future, perhaps to preserve him from harm. He then remembered what had occurred hours ago, and the force of it had him fall to his knees. Frantically, desperately, praying ardently that Gallifrey was still there, still safe, he returned the TARDIS back to the exact time and place where the fight with 'The Saviour' had occurred.
He returned, but Gallifrey had gone. There was nothing where it had once been, simply calm and empty space.
Stricken, believing with both hearts that 'The Saviour's' weapon had indeed been fired and had destroyed Gallifrey, Octantis spiraled into a state of comatose despondency, poisoned by intense, intense guilt and regret and remorse.
For weeks the TARDIS simply drifted through Space, Octantis ailing within, for he would not drink or eat or do anything at all.
At last the TARDIS landed upon a planet, where friendly aliens discovered her and were granted entrance. They found the dying Timelord inside, and worked hard to save his life. But their selfless efforts were in vain, and Octantis died, later regenerating into his next body.
The aliens, a solitary species, had never heard of Gallifrey or of the Timelords, so they were astonished and immensely relieved when the assumedly dead Octantis awoke, albeit with a new body.
They did not question him, and displayed only kindness and hospitality, nursing him through the bout of regeneration sickness he suffered.
For days Octantis remained despondent and unresponsive, but after a while the aliens' pure kindness touched his hearts, and he was pulled away from the venomous darkness plaguing his mind.
Octantis started to recover, and as a coping mechanism forced himself to forget what had previously occurred. The memories remained, but were shroud within the deepest and darkest recesses of his brain.
He opted to start his life anew, choosing to study and record information concerning the various life forms native to various planets. This would be his vocation, and he christened himself as The Astrozoologist. (Astro, or Zoologist for short.)
Once fully recovered, he thanked the aliens wholeheartedly for all their help, insisting that they had saved him from darkness and despair. He stepped into his faithful TARDIS, and his adventures began.
His next two regenerations occurred upon the planets he was studying their lifeforms on. Unfortunate accidents, really.
His second regeneration was caused by landing upon an unexplored and unrecorded planet which seemed safe but actually wasn't. The planet's atmosphere was ridden with tiny particles of toxic dust, which The Astrozoologist unfortunately inhaled as he exited his TARDIS to investigate the area. The toxic dust invaded his lungs and severely irritated them to the point that, upon managing to stagger back into his TARDIS and close the door, the damage was irreparable and he was forced to regenerate.
His third regeneration occurred when, upon a snowy planet, he was protecting a native creature from a hunter. The hunter warned him to step away or he'd shoot, but The Astrozoologist refused staunchly, standing in front of the injured creature. Annoyed, the hunter aimed to scare off The Astrozoologist, but with shaking hands and his vision teary due to the bitter gale, his shot struck the Timelord in the chest accidentally. Mortally wounded and losing blood, The Astrozoologist collapsed: Terrified, the hunter fled. The Astrozoologist died alongside the creature he had struggled so hard to protect, and it died also. He regenerated into his third body.
His fourth regeneration occurred when he was investigating trafficked animals upon a planet home to specifically aggressive aliens. He was found out, chased, and shot at. The lasers mortally wounded him but he managed to reach his TARDIS and regenerated inside beside the control panel.
Newly regenerated, he left the planet, but suffering from a severe bout of regeneration sickness and with his brain swimming in a discordant sea of unbalanced emotions, he crash landed upon Earth
