This is Ari!!

One of the chill days, where the summer air is nice, and Egghead isn't plotting his next lame ass attack. Days like these definitely don't get taken for granted when it comes to Sonic. Every moment is appreciated and counts.

No need to be negative when the greatest gift of all is to live life to the fullest. And what better way to spend it then with your friends? OR! With your NEW friend!
Sonic glances over at the young female hedgehog who sits beside him. Her legs dangle off the edge of the hill while a gentle breeze blows through her black and pink quills.

If you stare hard enough, it's almost like looking at the female version of Shadow. Though instead of red and black quills, she has pink.
And instead of having a cold, intense, glare, her eyes are gentle and always shining brightly when she smiles.

Maybe that's why Sonic appreciates her company. She is Shadow's sister, yet she's the complete opposite of him. It's a win-win situation, someone to play games with and race and share chili dogs with, and best of all...it'll annoy the shit out of Shadow.

God this is fun.

Without Ari noticing, Sonic stares, admiring the little details that make Ari...Ari. The pink mixed in with the black quills, her cute little combat boots that look similar to Shadow's air shoes, her glistening eyes, and most of all...the pretty smile.

Suddenly, a blush forms on Sonic's cheeks. Which was...totally out of the ordinary. Sonic? Blushing over a girl? Not exactly a common thing. Amy's constant attempts to take Sonic out on a date always end the same--Sonic running away.

It's nothing personal, he just...well, doesn't have time for a relationship, he likes the idea of being free and not tied down in THAT department.
But at the same time, he can't help but feel a little...drawn to Ari. Maybe more then he should.

Finally, Ari looks at Sonic, and chuckles. "What are you staring at?" She brushes her gloved hand down her quills. "Bug in my quills?"
His blush grows warmer. "Uhh, no! No," he laughs awkwardly. Damn it, he got caught staring.

"I just...like the way the sun brings out the pink in your quills. It's...cute."

At that, it's Ari's turn to blush. Was that a compliment from Sonic? Of course, Sonic always delivers his little comments that could make any girl blush--even though that was never Sonic's intention.
But this compliment sounded different, it almost seemed like a little flirt.

Ari can't help but press her hands against her suddenly hot to the touch cheeks.
"Th-thank you," she replies, trying her best to sound calm.

"So!" Sonic changes the topic, "I haven't seen Shads in a while, where is he?"

"Oh, Shadow, well..." she grins mischievously, "I maaaaaaaaaay have purposely hidden his chaos emeralds, that way he wouldn't come bother us during our run." She chuckles, a little small, shy smile appearing on her face. "So, he'll be pretty busy for a while."

Sonic laughs. "Won't he be mad if he finds out?"
"Eh, he'll forgive me," she bats her eyelashes, "I'm his sister after all."

"Which is still so surprising, you aren't anything like that edgelord, no offense of course."
"None taken," Ari grins, "yeah...we're opposites, but deep down, he's actually a total softie. Once you get to know him--and if he'll actually let you know him--you'll see he's just a hedgehog like you and me."

That sounds hard to believe, Sonic wants to say, but he bites his tongue, not wanting to offend her. "I'll take your word for it then," he replies, before standing up and extending his hand to Ari. "You hungry?"

"Sure," she graciously takes his hand and is lifted back up on her feet, the gesture causing her to accidently get a bit close to Sonic--which results in a major blush.
She quickly steps back, releasing Sonic's hand, smoothing down her outfit in an attempt to hide her face.

Deep down, she's always had a crush on Sonic, ever since she first met him. Even though her brother Shadow constantly tells her to keep her feelings in check, and that Sonic isn't worth her time, she'll always have a soft spot for Sonic.

But to respect the friendship she has with Sonic, she won't tell him about how she feels...at least, not yet. Not until she sees a CLEAR sign indicating that Sonic wants this to be a friend only level. He kinda goes back and forth, sometimes he flirts, others he doesn't at all.

But despite it all, she's happy just hanging out with him.

As the pair make their way down the somewhat steep hill, and the last moment, Ari's shoe gets stumped on a small rock, causing her to fall forward, and causing Sonic to immediately act and run to the front of her to break her fall.

Both of them couldn't have predicated what would actually happen in that moment.

Their noses touched--and what most people consider it, hedgehog kiss.
It's...not exactly like a REAL kiss, but rather a cute kiss, where two hedgehogs touch noses as a way to express that they like the hedgehog they approached.

And in THIS little accident, where Ari's fall was broken by Sonic jumping in front of her, ended with the two of them, frozen in place with the hedgehog kiss between the two of them.
No words were spoken, it was all simply wide eyes staring at each other, and blushes now visibly clear on both their cheeks.

When reality finally smacks Sonic in the back of his head, he leans away, helping Ari back to the standing position, before shyly looking away with a hand rubbing the back of his neck.
"S-sorry about that, you okay?" he asks.

"Yeah...I'm...okay," Ari responds. Scratch that, she's over the MOON! But...she'll keep that excitement to herself.

Sonic clears his throat, digging the tip of his shoe in the soft earth under his feet as he exhales.
He's bracing himself for this.
"I like you, Ari," he says quickly, almost too quickly for Ari to understand.

But she heard those three little words, and immediately, her heart stops beating.
"Do you...like me too?" Sonic asks after a heartbeat of silence. Good Chaos why is his heart beating at a hundred miles per hour?!

With pink cheeks, Ari nods. "Yeah, I like you too?"
"Really?!" He shouts, already bouncing off the walls like a kid who just had too much sugar. "This is great! This is better than great! This is AWESOME!"
He grabs her hands and squeezes them. "Come on! Let's go celebrate!"

"Celebrate?" Ari laughs, amused by his child-like excitement. "Hey! Wait for me!"
Ari runs after Sonic who started to dash forward--most likely towards a chili dog stand. What better way than to end this perfect day then with a batch of delicious chili dogs?
Nothing could spoil this moment.

Not even Shadow the Hedgehog, who stood in the dark corner of the forest the entire time, with his crimson eyes blazing, and his fists clenched.
