Ranking all Honkai Impact 3rd parts in the Honkai franchise
The Honkai Impact 3rd franchise became one of my favorite video game franchises of all time. They have some pretty amazing gameplay, they have awesome music that rivals that of Sonic and Kingdom Hearts, and has some of the best animations I have ever seen which is why for today's discussion we're going to be ranking all five Honkai parts from less to best. Now I just wanna make things very clear I'm not going to be counting Gun Girls Z aka Houkai Gakuen 2 or Genshin Impact because while GGZ does have some of the same story elements as Honkai, they aren't exactly connected as far as story and Genshin has nothing to do with the Honkai universe most of the time. We're only including 5 parts directly connected to Honkai Impact 3rd. Anyways now that we have that out of the way let's get started.
5. Honkai Star Rail
In last place I have Honkai Star Rail. While this game is good I do have several main issues that I have talked about in the past. First and foremost I wasn't a huge fan of the turn based gameplay especially of how they went about, on top of that the gameplay for some reason gets increasingly hard the more you play it especially when you go up against boss fights. I literally almost rage quit the game because it took me months to figure out how to beat them. I'm also not a huge fan of the 50/50 gacha system that Genshin has it gets on my nerves and the same can be said for have to grind so much to level up my characters and even then it feels unrewarding. I also have some issues with some of the characters, Trailblazer while slightly more talkative than Traveler is literally mostly silent the entire time, their personality is limited to player's choices and outside from a few cutscenes hasn't made any instances of character development as of yet. March 7th is okay but she can be annoying as Hell, Dan Heng has a really interesting story with the whole Imbibitor Lunae story arc but take that away and he's pretty bland like a sheet of paper. Some of the villains like the Stelleron Hunters while cool haven't proven anything noteworthy as antagonists for me to take them seriously aside from maybe Blade or Sam aka Firefly. Overall while the story is pretty good and the world building is amazing and while characters like Welt, Himeko, Kafka, Firefly, Blade, Jingliu, and a few others are some of my favorites the story doesn't go out of its way to properly flesh them out like I wanted them to but I still think it's a pretty good direct sequel to Honkai Impact 3rd.
4. Extinguished Starlight and Rekindled Fire
Extinguished Starlight and Rekindled Fire aka Part 2 is 4th. It's been about a few months since it's and I can probably say it's looking pretty good so far. I plan on making a review on this in the future once more chapters come out to sum things up shortly there are some things that I liked. Dreamseeker can actually talk but not just talk but actually show a display a personality that's not limited to player's choices which is really amazing a massive improvement from Traveler and Trailblazer here's hoping that we see a compelling backstory, motivation, and goals for Dreamseeker in the future. I really like Senadina's personality definitely gives me Elysia vibes I can't wait to see what they do with her character especially since she is the Goddess of Mars. I really like Helia and Coralie have a pretty great dynamic so far with Coralie being the emotionless yet semi trying to be funny version of Bronya I do hope we get some story of their time when they landed on Mars as well as backstories motivations such as Helia looking up to Durandal and Coralie being adopted by Einstein, Songque is a really interesting case being a member of the Seven Shu I'm really interested in what they do with her as well as the motives of each Shu since they are the main villains in Part 2. As for gameplay I really like the new mechanics such as jumping, grappling hooks, and using AstralOp to help in battle. Overall Part 2 is looking like it has great potential to be peak can't wait to see what they do with it in the future as it has surpassed my expectations.
3. A Post Honkai Odyssey
A Post Honkai Odyssey or APHO for short is 3rd. It takes place 8 years after the events Part 1 and roughly 2 years after Part 2 and I absolutely love this part. Starting with the world building I like how it takes place in a dark post apocalyptic world despite the Honkai having been defeated nearly a decade ago, this is all because of a new alien threat called the Sky People and alien race having defeated the Honkai on their world. The combat system added some new like the jumping mechanics which I do like. I like Adam he's pretty good the concept of a male being able to resit the Honkai and adapt to it is really cool not to mention he is a first male playable character, I do really hope we get some backstory on who he is, especially since there are theories out there that Adam is the son of Murata Himeko as well as the theory that Adam is the same boy who Mei rescued in Chapter 24 when he was be sold to slavery due him being one of the rare males who have Honkai adaptability. If both of those theories are true which I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibilities since Adam and Himeko have the same eye color and Adam shares a striking resemblance to Himeko's dad, Ryusuke, which mind you, a child can have a striking resemblance to their grandparents that's just how genetics work, not to mention the kid that Mei saved does have the same hair color as Adam and the Stigmata is placed on the left side of the kid's neck just like Adam, this would allow us to get in some lore on Adam's character, I also like how Mei serves as the mentor to Adam, I like the dynamic between Lyle and Adam and I also thought Carole is pretty funny. My favorite part was when Adam made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Mei by risking being completely infected by Honkai Energy much like Himeko did in Chapter 9 of the main series and again if the theory that Adam is Himeko's som being true that would bring things full circle which I really do like. Over even though it only has 2 chapters I still enjoyed APHO, I do hope that story continues some time in the near future so we can see how the Sky People are ultimately defeated and how Kiana returns to Earth and likely becomes a mentor to Adam as well.
2. Dance of Life and Death
Dance of Life and Death aka Part 1.5 is in 2nd place. Before we had Part 2, Part 1.5 takes place 6 months after the end of Part 1. In my opinion this is underrated, I actually enjoyed every bit of 1.5 I loved how we have Seele and Fu Hua as the main protagonists of 1.5, in the Salt Snow Holy City arc aka the Rebirth arc which is one of my favorites out of the two I actually loved the development between Seele and Veliona and how both are separated in the Salt Snow Holy City with Seele being on the light side of the city and Veliona being in the dark side which is pretty poetic given what they represent and I love how both eventually got their own bodies after Seele becomes the Herrscher of Rebirth and now both can live independently, I love the interaction between Veliona and Herrscher of Sentience I thought their dynamic was pretty funny as well as interactions with Kira and Hare, as well as Vita as for the Phosphorus Arc it was mid but there are some things I enjoyed like the Vita kids, when Fu Hua reunites with Griseo one of her old comrades from 50,000 years ago as well as we got some lore into what their relationship is like, Sa was a really great villain, and I love Fu Hua's Fenghuang of Vicissitude form which was built up in the previous part and it looks like that build up payed off. My only issues with Part 1.5 is that I wish there are a lot more stakes when Seele gives her body to Dark Seele because I really thought Seele was going to die and make the ultimate sacrifice to do so I also wish we got more lore Griseo's backstory, and James Moriarty sucked ass checks. That guy is extremely boring and it's a good thing he's gone I just wish we had the chance to kick Moriarty's ass. Overall Part 1.5 is not perfect I can acknowledge that but I think they did a great job with Seele and Fu Hua's characters and their dynamic with the people around them.
1. The Moon's Origin and Finality
The Moon's Origin and Finality aka Part 1 aka the OG that started it all is no doubt first. Everything about Part 1 is just amazing, not only did it started off with the amazing gameplay and introduced the concept of humanity at war against a phenomenal call the Honkai taking in form of all shapes and sizes such as earthquakes, natural disasters, monsters, diseases that turn people into zombies, godly reality warping beings known as Herrschers as well as multiversal cosmologies such as the Sea of Quanta, the Imaginary Tree, and the Bubble Worlds, but as far as story and characters go it's just perfect. The stakes are high in the story there are moments where they make you, happy, sad, and depressed we've lost many characters we love via death or fall to the dark side, Kevin, Otto, and Sirin are some of the best villains I have ever seen in recent memory but most importantly the character developments of Kiana, Mei, and Bronya was phenomenal. These 3 girls started off as high school students and they never thought their paths would ultimately end up becoming godly beings honestly there's so much I love about Part 1 it's Hoyoverse at it's peak and in my opinion there is nothing that can top this which is why Honkai Impact 3rd ended up becoming one of my favorite video game franchises of all time.
But anyways guys that's going to be it for today thank you so much for reading let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are and I will see you all next time. Peace.
