Why Sonic Prime isn't Canon

Yo what's going on guys now today we're going to be talking about Sonic Prime the latest Sonic TV show in the franchise.

And I have to say I really do like the show it's really amazing like I've never been that excited for a Sonic TV show since Sonic X (Although that show is better) and I do think it's really great. I also really like the cast for this show they did a brilliant job with the characters I think my personal favorite in the cast is Ashleigh Ball the voice of Tails.

I think she did a really great job bringing the character to life in her own why. She's not as best as Kate Higgins and especially Colleen O'Shaughnessey but she still none the less did a great job (Also a little fun fact she voices Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony who is very similar to Sonic so it makes sense for Ball to voice a character in Sonic) Now if you look at the title of this chapter you can probably guess what the discussion is about. According to Logan McPherson, Sonic Prime is canon to the games.

Now there are a lot of arguments saying that it's canon and it's non canon and I'm one of the people that's on the side of it being non canon I say this because they make a few plot holes, contradict many things the source material, and the characters are off. And I'm going to explain why Sonic Prime is non canon to the games. So without further a do let's get started.

One of the reasons why don't consider Sonic Prime is the concept of everyone living in Green Hill Zone. This doesn't make any sense as we all know none of the characters in the show don't live in Green Hill, it makes sense for Sonic to live there given the first game of the series but it doesn't make sense for Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, Rouge, Shadow, and Eggman to be there. Let me explain it doesn't make sense for Tails to live there because he came from West Side Island which is an entirely different from South Island where Green Hill Zone is and while they did get the Emerald Hill Zone background right in the scene where Sonic meets Nine the dark reflection/anti-hero version of Tails and is someone who Tails would've been if he hadn't met Sonic.

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

However they messed up big time here because the setting Nine gets bullied takes place in New Yoke City the city version of Green Hill Zone they practically almost implied that Tails lives in Green Hill but that's not true, in the games Tails and Sonic met in Emerald Hill not Green Hill. It also doesn't make sense for Knuckles to be in Green Hill because Knuckles he lives in Angel Island and never leaves and he has a reason for this because he has to guard the Master Emerald being the last echidna to do so and it has been stated that Knuckles doesn't leave Angel Island unless he had a very good reason.

Sure in the games we do have times where he did leave Angel Island and was never explained why but going off of the lore of the games Knuckles only leaves Angel Island when he has a reason and last I check battling Green Hill a million times to fight Eggman doesn't seem like a good reason especially since they show sense of Knuckles hanging out. It especially doesn't make sense for Shadow to live in Green Hill because in the games Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik on the Space Colony Ark and was sealed on Prison Island by GUN for 50 years until Eggman woke him up. So it makes zero sense for Shadow to live in Green Hill when in the games he doesn't have a home at all. As for Eggman, Rouge, Big, and Amy it was never stated that their from Green Hill either. I don't think this is intentional but if you guys basically implied that the characters come from Green Hill is pretty stupid especially since this show is supposed to be canon to the games.

The next reason why I don't consider this canon is the characters now to be fair I'm only talking about the mainstream characters not their alternate versions in the Shatterverse. To be fair I do recognized the characters from the games but there are times where I felt they are out of character especially for Sonic, sure he has his cocky attitude, cracking jokes, and protects his friends but here they make him less like he was in the games and more like the movies and they make him look dumb. Let's talk about the scene where Sonic fights one of Eggman's robots which turns out to be a trap, here we see Tails trying to warn Sonic that it was a trap but Sonic doesn't listen and charges at Eggman's mech anyway which charged up Sonic's speed to create an Earthquake so that Eggman can get the Paradox Prism. Now I get that Eggman was trying to provoke Sonic into attacking him by talking shit to Tails but even then Tails was telling him not to do it as it was a trap and still Sonic doesn't listen. Another example of being out of character is Sonic shattering the Paradox Prism even though his friends warned him not to do it. It's honestly kind dumb especially since this series is supposedly to be canon to the games. But no. The Sonic from the games would actually listen to Tails and would recognized it's a trap and take Tails's words to consideration yes in the games like Sonic Lost World for example the only reason why Sonic fell for the traps is because Tails realizes it a second to late and had to sacrifice himself to prevent the Deadly Six from getting him and in Sonic Adventure 2 when he was trapped in the capsule the only reason why he fell for the trap cuz neither him or Tails caught on to it and again in Lost World the only reason why he didn't listen to or trusted Tails to turn off Eggman's machine was because Eggman was actually tricking them. Almost pretty much many times Sonic has fallen into a trap and doesn't listen to Tails or any other of his friends there's always a logical reason behind it as Sonic always takes his friends and rivals concerns to heart that's who Sonic is but in Prime they make him some what of a dumb guy who rushes into fights first and asks questions later which is not the Sonic we know from the games. Yes Sonic is cocky, all for action and adventure, and may crack jokes once and a while but ultimately he knows when to take situations seriously when push cones to show as the games version of Sonic would not just rush in and destroy the Paradox Prism. Also one thing I should point out is when Sonic arrives in New Yoke he acts like he's never been in a city before, but in the games he's been in many cities before like in the Adventure games in Station Square, Sonic Heroes with Grand Metropolis, Sonic Riders games, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 06, and Sonic Forces like this show is supposed to be canon to the games did they outright forget that Sonic has been in a city before? Moving on to Rouge I have to talk about her design I actually like it, it kinda reminds me of Sonic Heroes. However I do have a problem with her. They have her be on Sonic's crew and make her this caring, kind, selfless, and caring person but in the games she's the complete opposite of this as she's selfish, greedy, sassy, a hypocrite, and pretty much gem obsessed person. So there's no way in Hell that Prime is supposed to be canon when the Rouge from the games would not team up with Sonic on a daily basis if anything she's always teaming up with Shadow and Omega because she's more of an anti-hero group which is what Rouge should be in the show but here they make her a hero from the start Hell she's not even fully gem obsessed like she is in the games, Rouge can be helpful once and a while when it comes to saving the world but those traits don't define her as a character. They also make Knuckles like he's some buff guy. In the games Knuckles isn't always like that he's just a tempered idiotic echidna who just punches because he has too not cause he wants too. Overall I still enjoyed the characters but it doesn't make sense for Prime to be canon with the games because if they're contradicting already established source material.

Finally the whole Sonic losing rings thing. In the show Sonic always like to collect rings and then loses them after he takes a hit. From a gaming mechanic perspective it make sense but it doesn't worked in a cutscene point of view as Sonic has gotten his ass kicked before in the past and is still alive if we go by the show's logic he should've lost all his rings and died along time ago, which doesn't make sense as in the past we've seen Sonic take a beating and not once did he lost the ring nor were the rings used as a plot device. I don't know what they were trying to do with that but in all honesty it makes no sense.

Overall I love the show I do but I don't consider it canon if this show was just it's own canon universe like the movies are I would be fine with it but because they made it canon it causes a lot of confusion, plot holes, and contradicting already existing source material. The only way to make this canon is if you have all the Sonics from all media come together Spiderverse style.... Which honestly doesn't sound that good especially since some versions of Sonic are complicated. It's probably best if they just stick to the show and leave all that fan service out of it.

But that's all for today thank you so much for reading and I will see you all next time. Peace.
