Why Honkai Impact 3rd is better than Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail
Yo what's going on guys it's Mario and Sonic gamer and today I wanna discussion my options on Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Star Rail.
I've played and done some research on these 3 games and I have to say they are very good. However as you guys can tell by the title of the chapter out of all the games I actually enjoyed Honkai Impact 3rd the most and I'm going to be explaining why I do. Now like with most discussions like this it's all my opinion and you have every right to have your own opinion and you also have the right to agree or disagree with my opinion. With that being said without further ado let's get started.
Main protagonist
To start this list off we have our main protagonists, they are who the audience follows throughout the story and we route for them and want them to succeed in Honkai Impact 3rd the main character is Kiana Kaslana, in Genshin Impact the main character is the Traveler who you can choose to be Aether (male) or Lumine (female), and in Honkai Star Rail we have the Trailblazer which you can choose between Stelle (female) or Caelus (male). Going off of this alone it's clear that Kiana is the better main character here than the Traveler and Trailblazer and I'll explain why. First off unlike Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd doesn't make you choose between a male or female character because they already have a main character in mind for you to play as from the start. Going off of that I always find myself interested in Kiana than I do with the other two in their games the Traveler and Trailblazer are pretty much just there to be silent only talking occasionally like the Traveler's backstory is much more interesting than Trailblazer's as the Traveler and the sibling gets separated by this unknown god who beat their asses and now they have to find their sibling. It sounds promising but after that they're just kinda there while side characters do all the talking and explaining. In the case of Kiana they don't just have her there just to be there no they actually have her do more especially when it comes to overwhelming pain she dealt with in her past like this girl was straight up born in a lab created as a clone of the real Kiana (Durandal), her father disappeared, had to deal with a monstrous being inside of her, Sirin, lost her mentor, then after she got possessed she was traumatized by what she did due to Sirin's influence, then her best friend/lover Mei turned her back on her and joined a villain organization all because to Mei, Kiana was more important to her than the world. Like throughout the whole game Kiana has been through nothing but absolute Hell yet despite that Kiana grows and develops as a person who vows to create a better world the same unfortunately cannot be said about Traveler and Trailblazer, sure the Traveler's sibling does turn to the dark side forcing the Traveler to go on a journey to bring them back to the light but it's just not as impactful as what Kiana went through especially with Mei, and Trailblazer doesn't really have enough back story for me to even care about their character, they are just created by Kafka just to place Stellaron within them that's it, which is a real shame. Another thing that makes me like Kiana more is she also actively has personality apart from the pain and suffering I mentioned earlier, Kiana is actually kind, stubborn, upbeat, and loud which is something that always got me interested and made me laugh, meanwhile Traveler and Trailblazer don't have much personality they just stand their mostly emotionless for the entire time that's it except from maybe in serious moments. Overall Kiana's character completely claps Traveler and Trailblazer's so hard it's not even funny. I do hope that Traveler and Trailblazer do get some form of character development in the future because even before the ending of Part 1, Kiana was getting development that was far greater than anything Trailblazer and Traveler went through which is why she is a better main protagonist and it's not even close.
Supporting cast
Outside of the main protagonists we also have a supporting cast of characters who play the roles of supporting the main protagonist in anyway they can through various roles weather it'd be a deuteragonist, tritagonist, mentor, or supporting protagonists and I have to say all 3 of these games I enjoyed Honkai Impact 3rd's supporting cast because almost all of them have played a major role in helping Kiana on their journey in some way shape or form, and while the supporting cast in Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact do help Traveler and Trailblazer in some way shape or form they are there for only one or two and as of right now we don't know when they will return if they'll return at all, I honestly wish that Genshin Impact and Star Rail treated their supporting cast the way Impact 3rd did by having them be there throughout almost every inch of the protagonist's journey because in Impact 3rd the supporting cast isn't there for an arc or 2 they are there right beside Kiana throughout every step of the journey. As for separate storylines while I do think the supporting cast are very interesting I always find myself invested in Honkai Impact 3rd's storylines because throughout the game it wasn't just Kiana that went through Hell but almost the entire cast as well, like literally all it's them living their best lives and all it takes is one incident where the Honkai showed up and did something to fuck shit up to have things go downhill better my personal favorite storylines are Mei, Bronya, Seele, Fu Hua, Durandal, and Rita's. Mei was just your typical rich girl born into a wealthy privileged family had many friends at school and lived her best life despite her mom dying of cancer but then shit went downhill when her father was arrested and framed that everything Mei had was taken away from her in an instant and on top of that the Herrscher of Thunder inside of her took over and destroyed millions of lives in Nagazora it wasn't until Kiana showed up that she finally found true friendship, as for Bronya she was an orphan after the Second Honkai Eruption who forced into an abusive life by a Russian gang who they would have go on missions it wasn't until Cocolia appeared adopted her and met Seele that she finally got to live a normal life but after Seele vanished into the Sea of Quanta Bronya was heartbroken so much so that she was determined to rescue her, speaking of Seele she too was an orphan and had to be adopted by Cocolia but despite that she was bullied to Hell even got kidnapped and was about to be sold but then Bronya entered her life and not only protected her from bullies but also murdered the people who tried to sold her, Seele even took Bronya's place for a test due to having a Stigma that makes her Herescher of Death candidate but she ended up vanishing in the Sea of Quanta, she also has a split personality with her Stigma but the two would eventually work together and become friends especially when they save Bronya in the Sea of Quanta, moving to Durandal before she was Durandal she was the original Kiana Kaslana who lived a happy life but several things badly happened, her mother died during the Second Honkai Eruption, she was kidnapped by Otto Apocalypse so that he can use her DNA combined with Sirin's to clone her 4 times than when she and her father tried to save said clone the mission failed and Kiana got separated, to make matters worse Otto erased her original memories gave her a nee name Bianka and never returned her to her father, that's literally quite tragic and it makes me wonder what would've happened if Durandal discovered her true identity a lot sooner than originally lucky she found happiness within her friend and possible lover Rita, speaking of Rita she was a rich girl with a family who like the vast majority of the characters lived a normal life until the Honkai showed up and destroyed everything Rita held dear but she would eventually be rescued and that inspired her to become a Valkyrie named Ragna Lothbrok who would serve as her mentor as well as Durandal and Himeko, but the character that has perhaps the saddest backstory and has been through more hell is Fu Hua. Unlike most characters Fu Hua was actually there when the Honkai first arrived on Earth so she saw first hand what they are capable especially after her friends and family died as a result. This lead to Fu Hua to becoming an immortal soldier dedicated to destroying the Honkai however she witnessed too much suffering, lost too many friends to count, had been betrayed so many times it was an endless cycle she endured for over 50,000 years and even as she achieved some victories she had severe PTSD possibly more so than other characters due to having more than 50,000 years worth of PTSD. The Honkai did such a good job at destroying her physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically that Fu Hua severed ties with whatever humanity she had left and instead begin fighting like a mindless soldier showing no mercy to pretty much anyone and as we all know that didn't end to good as she still suffered the same cycle especially after she lost her immortality, and it wasn't until after Kiana and her friends entered her life that Fu Hua's humanity was restored and she found happiness. As you guys can tell pretty much almost all of the supporting characters have been through dozens of pain and suffering like I don't think any pain and suffering the characters from Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail could even come close to what the characters in Honkai Impact 3rd went through because tragedy doesn't even begin to describe the characters. Now as for the character dynamics I think all of them are very unique in their own ways like I do like how Paimon is straight up getting trashed on for being a emergency food I thought that was funny and though I prefer Bronya and Seele in the Impact 3rd version I do like how in Star Rail they start off as enemies before becoming friends and likely lovers in the future, but other than that though in comparison most of the other dynamic in both games are kinda mid at best especially in Genshin Impact. That was not the case for Honkai Impact 3rd as many of the character dynamics were more they were funny, enjoyable and it made me want to see more of that especially with Kiana and Mei, they have a really great dynamic which I think is the best part or the entire game.
Villains
Coming up next we have the villains of the games and I'm just going to come around and get to the point. Honkai Impact 3rd has the better villains and it's not even a contest. Ranging from Raven, Cocolia, Gray Serpent, Herrscher of Dominance, Herrscher of Corruption and especially the 3 best villains Sirin, Otto Apocalypse, and especially Kevin Kaslana. There is clearly no comparison especially when talking about Kevin, Otto, and Sirin. When I think of great villains I always picture those 3 everything from their backstories, motivations, their personalities, and impact was just too great for anything the villains in Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have. Now I should probably note that I know I did have Herrscher of Dominance in my top 5 but honestly after some further thinking I realized that Cocolia despite having a minor appearance was a good villain at the beginning of the series though she didn't show her face throughout most or the beginning and should've been the top 5 though I still did enjoy HoD. Cocolia is basically Danzo Shimura but with redeeming qualities yes she did a lot of cruel things, she framed Raiden Ryoma, Mei's father causing Mei to be looked down upon in society, is basically responsible for the Third Honkai Eruption to happen, placed a chip in Bronya to brainwash her making her do things that Bronya herself would never do, made a deal with Grey Serpent, had Mei kidnapped, and is basically responsible for Wendy's death. However despite all that Cocolia has a heart as the experiments she does on children while bad it was a volunteer thing on the children's part meaning it was their choice and their's alone not forced plus she wanted her kids to have a fighting chance or at and she did all this cruel stuff because she was trying to get Seele back which is why she did all those cruel things I mentioned earlier but in the end it was all just to get Seele back who disappeared I think that losing Seele took a huge toll on her as it was stated in the manga that there were 8 children who disappeared or died as a result that most've broke Cocolia as she wanted them to he protected by the Honkai which led her to doing things she ended up regretting in the future in the end though Cocolia can rest easy knowing that Seele's back and given how she was one of the few people who help break Kevin's barrier I'd she definitely redeemed herself. I also enjoyed Raven because like Cocolia, Raven is doing some awful things just to protect her adopted children as well and in the end she ended up redeeming herself. But let's talk about the 3 best villains Kevin, Otto, and Sirin. All 3 of them had impacts on the story one way or another, Otto having the biggest impact because a lot of characters would not exist or be who they are today if it weren't for him and he did all this just so he can revive Kallen the woman he loved, so he went through every lengths not caring about how many people he has to sacrifice to do it as he wanted the light he so lost back and the way he went out was beautifully executed because it shows that not even death can stop him from his goals, and as for Sirin man all she wanted was a normal life, instead she got being subjected to being a lab experiment and is forced to watch everyone she cared about died and even after she was free the scars never healed, she vowed revenge to make humanity pay for what they've done which is honestly really heartbreaking, but what makes her epic is that she definitely has the swagger personality not taking her foes seriously unless she has to and I also like some of the narcissistic and egotistical personalities which is definitely something I enjoyed, and lastly Kevin who in my opinion is the best villain in the entire game and one of my favorite video game villains next to the likes of Bowser and Eggman reason is that because he's actually takes this whole fallen hero thing to a whole another level. Like Fu Hua, Kevin was there when the Honkai first arrived to create mass destruction and lost pretty much almost everyone close to him including the love of his life Dr. Mei this led to him becoming an immortal soldier hellbent on destroying the Honkai, however unlike Fu Hua the countless pain and suffering Kevin experienced ultimately drove him into madness and this led to his infamous Project Stigma plan to reform the human race and destroy the Honkai and he would make it happen no matter what. Like all of these villains have shown to have greater impacts on not just the characters but the story in general and it's not to say that Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail don't have good villains I mean there's this unknown god and the Traveler's sibling who fell to the dark side and in Star Rail there are some pretty dope villains but in the end Honkai Impact 3rd's villains not only impact the characters but the plot as well.
The story
Moving onto the story I definitely think that this one goes to Honkai Impact 3rd I just think that the story is very very amazing. There's a reason I find myself invested in Honkai Impact 3rd's story than I do with Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact, as I was able to get to Chapters 1-12 literally just a month in record time which is impressive because most new players from what I heard it took them about months to get that far, Genshin Impact and Star Rail on the other hand while those games are good I never found myself getting invested quickly in the story as I did Impact 3rd, the story it's just that good it makes me interested it makes me me be apart of the action it had so many hyped moments that put me on the edge of my seat like moments such as Kiana bringing Fu Hua back letting her know she's not alone, or Bronya becoming the Herrscher of Reason, or Seele finding enough strength to break through the Sea of Quanta and work with Veilona to save Bronya, or Kiana becoming the Herrscher of Flamescion, or when Elyisa and the Thirteen Flame-Chasers fighting together against the Herrscher of Corruption but at the same time we also got some sad moments like Himeko sacrificing her life to free Kiana from Sirin taking control of her body, or if it's when Kiana and Mei fought each other which resulted in Mei leaving. I know I compare those moments to Naruto which to be fair they are kinda similar especially with Jiraiya and Himeko falling backwards into nothingness after they die or it's Kiana and Mei's fight being similar to Naruto and Sasuke's but putting those comparisons aside those are still very sad moments nonetheless and finally we have awesome moments that make me happy for the future like with Kiana and Mei's reunion, Durandal telling Kiana and Siegfried that she's the real Kiana, and Kiana leaving on the moon. I know most people would call that a sad moment because she's leaving her friends which to be fair in that case they're not wrong, but I personally don't because knowing the fact that we'll eventually see Kiana again makes me really excited for the future hopefully she returns to earth on APHO 3. Like the story of Honkai Impact 3rd was just too great there are moments where I feel like the only way the characters can truly find peace and happiness away from the Honkai is if Madara Uchiha simply casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi on them and there are moments where I feel like I'm seeing myself in their shoes at this. Honkai Impact 3rd did such a good job with the story that I almost found myself locked into and having to force myself to stop and take a break that's how good the story is. Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact even after playing the games I couldn't find myself invested in the stories or at least not in the way I was with Honkai Impact 3rd and it's not to say the stories in those games are bad they really aren't I just couldn't find myself invested in those stories because they aren't as good or peak as Honkai Impact 3rd and now that I'm on break it's going to take me a while to get invested in the stories, maybe one day Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail will do something so hype that it makes me invested in the stories but as of right now Honkai Impact 3rd takes this by a long shot it's not even comparable.
Animation
Now this one was a tough one because all 3 of them have really great animations but I'm going to pick Honkai Impact 3rd the reason is that they do such a great job with the animations specifically in their CG moments. Some of my favorite CG cutscenes are Lament of the Fallen, Final Lesson, Cyberangel, Seele, Shattered Samsara, Everlasting Flames, Because of You, Thus Spoke Apocalypse, and Generational Trip. All of those are just so breathtaking and very well animated that it felt like I was watching an action packed Shonen anime. Now the reason why I say this was difficult was because Honkai Star Rail actually has animations that are almost on par with what Honkai Impact 3rd one of the best examples I can come up with is this one called A Flash like that animation was so well animated it kinda of reminds me of Fate/Apocrypha or Violet Evergarden and it definitely gave Demon Slayer a run for it's money I feel like while the animation in Genshin Impact is good I think still needs a lot of work to do if it's going to be peak.
Gameplay
Last but not least Honkai Impact 3rd has better gameplay it's actually another reason why I was able to get into it more than I do with Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, it's completely action packed it's very smooth and the super moves are awesome, Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail has simply has your average open world type gameplay sure Honkai Impact 3rd had that in the later chapters but that still managed to make the fights much more hype and enjoyable than the other 2. On top of that in their fights especially the boss fights Honkai Impact 3rd actually makes the fights have a lot of high stakes like they're so many times to where I thought I was either going to die or if I'm going to survive the battle, like that's how good and how action packed it is, Genshin Impact fights while cool in their own they do tend to drag on from time to time, as for Honkai Star Rail while I will give it credit for having awesome super moves even though their not better than Honkai Impact 3rd's, the entire battle system is literally just an RPG style fighting which is fine but it doesn't take any high stakes unless you or your entire team is about to die and you have no way of healing them, it's not bad but to me there's not much high stakes which I guess is to be expected considering this is an RPG game but even in other RPG games like the Mario & Luigi series and the Paper Mario series there's actually action pack and high stakes especially parts where they dodge enemies attacks weather it'd be chases or if you're unable to have turns. That being said though I far preferred Honkai Impact 3rd's gameplay because it's incredibly action packed, there's high stakes, and it doesn't drag on. And when you attempt to unlock characters, Honkai Impact 3rd actually gives you a much easier time than Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact does as those two in their cases your chances of unlocking the character you want are 50% when you spend whatever items you have which could get really annoying especially when there's a specific character you want to unlock. But that's not the case with Honkai Impact 3rd when you make 100 drops you are 100% guaranteed to getting that character especially when it's an eventful character. That's honestly actually insane and the best part is that once you play with their broken abilities you are definitely going to enjoy it I wish Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail would learn from this and do it the way Honkai Impact 3rd did rather than give use these 50/50 chances.
And there you have it my reasons why I think Honkai Impact 3rd is better than Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. But with that said I do like all 3 of these games as they are incredibly unique in their own way and I do think there are some things Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have over Honkai Impact 3rd and I would have to say the settings and world building I do like how in both instances you can travel to new places for Genhsin Impact it's new continents and countries and for Honkai Star Rail it's to travel across different worlds and planets which definitely gives me Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts vibes but overall to me Honkai Impact 3rd will always be the superior one everywhere else.
But that's going to be it for the chapter let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below do you agree or disagree and let me know in the comments which one out of the 3 do you think you like more. Thank you so much for reading and I will see you all next time. Peace.
