Top 8 Anime Antagonists

Yo what's up guys, and today we're going to be doing the Top 7 Anime Antagonists. For this we're going to be looking at 8 antagonists in anime that are my favorite and in my opinion are in fact the best. Now just to be clear the villains don't necessarily have to be the main antagonist they can be minor antagonists or secondary antagonists. And just to make things clear this is only a list of villains from anime that I've seen. So without further a do let's get into this.

8. Stain (My Hero Academia)

Now this one is interesting because normally when people villains of My Hero Academia people usually think of All For One, Shigaraki, and most of the League of Villains. However Stain in my opinion is the best antagonist and let me explain why. Throughout the series of My Hero Academia most of the villains see all see the dark side of the world and many of them are basically victims however people like Shigaraki and the League could've easily been not villains by getting help and the fact that All For One is a villain because of a comic book is just ridiculous. What puts Stain above them all is because Stain actually has a reason for being a villain. When we look at the hero society most heroes are not being heroes for the greater good like All Might the only reason why they are heroes is for wealth, fame, attention, and power and the heroes essentially abuse their powers and don't see a gray world but a black and white one and don't care about the lives their supposed to protect. This is something that actually happens in real life because the people who are supposed to be protecting us, the police, soldiers, and the justice system have the same motives of wanting power and fame as the heroes do. Stain obviously doesn't like it and did not want to become a hero just for the sake of attention he wanted to be a hero so he can save lives like All Might. Stain wanted to change society and he's willing to be a villain to do that and I think it's understandable because the heroes are the equivalent to real life police and justice system which are all corrupted. Even though we don't agree what he's doing we understand why he's doing it. Stain has the best interests at heart. He's so interesting that in my Animaru Kingudamu books I have a character who was inspired from Stain who like him wanted to be a hero in someway (in her case it's being a police officer) and wanted to use her powers to help people but deflected from that dream after she saw too much corruption and evil within the system and became a villain to change society. And it's not just heroes Stain targets but villains who have no real goal and if just evil to be evil as we saw with Shigaraki. Stain's motives and ideologies are so overwhelming that he ended up inspiring other villains to carry on his will making the entire hero society shit their pants. As far as him as a fighter he may be weak but Stain will not rest until society changes it's ways. This is what makes him better than the likes of Shigaraki, Dabi, Toga, Spinner, and the rest of the League because while I can understand them suffering from abuse not getting support or just unable to fit in but they were villains just to be villains they could've easily gotten help, Stain on the other hand wants the world to see it's mistakes so that they can get back to being true heroes.

7. Akaza (Demon Slayer)

Warning: The follow contains MANGA SPOILERS for the Demon Slayer manga.

The next villain we have on the list we have the Upper Rank demon Akaza. Honestly like with Stain, despite being a minor antagonist Akaza is still the somehow manages to be the best villain in Demon Slayer even more than Muzan and the rest of the demons sure I can understand that Gyutaro and Daki are basically the dark reflections of Tanjiro and Nezuko but that doesn't really stand up to Akaza. For starters he's a great fighter. I think his Destructive Death moves are so damn cool their almost unpredictable, and I also like the way he just obliterated Giyu's dead calm like that was savage as Hell and he's a great introduction to show how strong are the Upper Rank demons are and why Hashira like Rengoku keep dying to them. But in anyways what made me like Akaza was his backstory he starts off as a kid getting into trouble all so he can provide for his sick dad which led him to getting caught and arrested multiple times but he doesn't care all he wants to do is take care of his dad, but then his dad ends up killing himself all because he wants his son to live a noble life and it seemed like Akaza would live a normal life after he was taken in by a martial arts master and marrying his daughter her thought that things would go according to plan but then his teacher and wife were killed by a rival dojo so he slaughtered every last one of them and fell into despair to the point where he didn't want to live anymore that is until Muzan turned him into a demon and made him fight for 200 years. What makes Akaza so interesting compared to the other demons some of whom are villains wether it be to cure themselves, have a family member they want to save, or just evil to be evil (looking at you Muzan and especially you Doma) Akaza is a demon because he has nothing else left to lose and because of it he had long forgotten of the person who he once was it wasn't until he was defeated by Tanjiro that he finally realized this and stopped fighting and regained his humanity to reunite with his loved ones in death. Akaza's tragic story made me sad while most demons do have sad backstories none of them made me cry the way Akaza's did he's pretty much a character who is the definition of someone who had nothing left to lose with a more interesting tragic backstory. He may have pissed people off for killing our boy Rengoku but deep down, Akaza was just someone who wanted to live a happy life but tragedy made him have nothing left to lose.

6. Father Pucci (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Coming in at number 6 is Father Pucci from JoJo's Part 6 Stone Ocean throughout the JoJo series we have some interesting villains, some I like in this case it's Dio some I'm fine with like Diavolo and Kars, and some I completely dispose like Yoshikage Kira. But there's something about Pucci that always stands out to me. Like we're talking about a priest who's done some nasty things that on the surface makes him appear that he's evil for the sake of being evil but in actuality almost everything he does is for the sake of bringing peace to humanity. His goal was to make sure people knew their own fate and can make peace with the inevitable tragedies life has in store and I find that concept very interesting. So he teams up with Dio to create a Heaven for all mankind. However as we all know towards the end of part 3 Dio died at the hands of Jotaro Kujo who came to Egypt to kill him to save his mother and Jotaro even burned Dio's diary that contain the tools needed to reach this Heaven but because Jotaro burned it all hopes and chances for heaven to happen seemed lost until Pucci's Stand ability allows him to take discs and Stands and memories. Dude was insane but ultimately he wanted humanity to have peace even though it's not really true peace but is understandable. But what makes him much better than the rest or the JoJo villains is because he did something that no other villain had done: He ended the Joestar bloodline. That alone is what makes him better than villains like Dio, Kars, Diavolo, and Yoshikage because the fact that he was able to succeed in his goals after killing the Joestars is just insane. Sure he did fail in the end and died at the hands of this 11 year old boy but even still thus far Father Pucci is definitely the best JoJo villain thus far.

5. Amakusa Shiro Tokisada (Fate)

From on priest to another we have Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. Shiro's life was very much Hell from the very start. During the Third Holly Grail War he lost so much his comrades, his Master, and even after killing his enemies the battle was lost in his eyes because he saw humans being evil first hand and as a result he hated them and even God making him a nihilist. He's like this not because they had killed him or his comrades, but how humanity easily accepted it as a repeating system in history where life is priceless yet has no value. This guy was broken and though he did eventually start to forgive humanity and throw away all grudges against them and God, he didn't stop there he wants to us the Holy Grail to bring salvation for all of humanity he wants to end all evil in the world and bring happiness to humanity something that we can all understand and relate to. Shiro is a man who started off hating people but ultimately forgave them and as a Christian who believes in God and forgiveness I can definitely understand him and even as he kills his enemies he prays to God for their salvation. But as Jeanne d'Arc pointed out the way he's going about it is the wrong way and that's another reason why I like Shiro he's basically Jeanne's dark counterpart, he's on one side of the coin and she's on the other, both have lived a life of pain and suffering and saw too much evil in the world, and even after killing their enemies they were affected dearly yet despite that both are forgiving people and pray to God for their enemies salvation. However the main difference is that despite seeing evil in the world Jeanne never gave up on humanity and saw good in them and has faith in them, Shiro on the other doesn't have faith in them nor does he see any good in humanity in fact he believes after his goal is accomplished. That only then will humanity have good in them. Shiro may be a master manipulator but in the end he always had some goor in him and wanted what's best for humanity.

4. Goku Black (Dragon Ball)

Out of all the villains in Dragon Ball, Goku Black is by far the most interesting villains in the franchise, even more interesting than Frieza, Majin Buu, Jiren, and many more he's also basically Reverse-Flash except he's a better version of him. Golu Black at first glance may appear to be an evil version of Goku but in reality he's actually a God named Zamasu who stole Goku's body and used him to cause terror in the entire multiverse. As a God Zamasu is immortal and he despised mortals holding a huge against them he saw too much evil in the universes and he's even more mad at the Gods for just sitting there and allowing the mortals to continue their distraction. What makes him even more interesting is that unlike the villains on the list who hated humans/mortals and wants to bring them peace by any means necessary even if it means they have to become villains to do it but still have the best interests at heart like with Shiro, Zamasu wants to outright destroy moryals as he believes that no matter how much good they have in them as long as they exist they mortals never have compassion or wisdom and therefore don't deserve to have any peace, but what pushed him over the edge is when Trunks traveled back in time and changed the timeline splitting reality in the process and Goku gaining the power that surpasses the even the Gods this led to him stealing Goku's body and became Goku Black, travel to an alternate timeline and team up with another Zamasu, and let him on his quest to destroy all mortals and Gods and Black is a fucking badass he toyed with Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks like it was nothing like every time I see him battle I almost find myself rooting for him in anyway I especially liked the part where he embarrassed Vegeta by stabbing him basically saying "I'm not going to fight a damn punching bag I'm going to fight the main character." Like I thought that was amazing. Goku Black's influence was so overwhelming that the only way to defeat him is to destroy the universe with him in it all together because he's basically a Mary Sue/Garry Stu done right. Goku Black is by far the best villain in the Dragon Ball franchise and I wish we can see more of him in the future.

3. Blackbeard (One Piece)

Now at the top 3 we have Marshall D. Teach aka Blackbeard. He's a very interesting villain and he's basically Anti-Luffy two sides of the same coin Blackbeard is Yin while Luffy is Yang and all that. Blackbeard in my opinion is Luffy's dark reflection and Luffy is Blackbeard's light reflection. Both Luffy and Blackbeard have the will of D both want to be come King of the Pirates  since they were very young and both have cremates whom they traveled with. However the key difference is that Luffy is a kind person he cares about his friends, he cares about innocent people, he cares about everybody and will go to every lengths to rescue those he cares about. Blackbeard on the other hand doesn't care about anyone but himself all he cares about is accomplishing his goals and will sacrifice anything and anyone to do it. It doesn't matter if your his crewmate, or his superior, or anything as long as your a means to an end you will be used and will be despised off after he's done with you. Blackbeard went as far as to start a war that led to Ace and Whitebeard's deaths all this so Blackbeard can steal his devil fruits become the first character to wield 2 devil fruits so far. Honestly this guy is insane like if you're going to have a villain who is evil to be evil at least do it right.

2. Sosuke Aizen (Bleach)

Coming in on the runner up spot we have Sosuke Aizen. Out of all the antagonists on this Aizen has been having his sights on the protagonist from the start. So much so that he practically created Ichigo which set the stages for the entire Bleach series, in his own words everything Ichigo has done was all part of Aizen's plan literally. Aizen's plan put all of Soul Society on edge completely on edge. Aizen as a fighter is someone you do not want to mess with, he caught Ichigo's Bankai with a finger and put a stop to his theme and Ichigo himself, he soloed entire armies almost single handily with no problem and we have to talk about Kyoka Suigetsu. That weapon is by far one of the most OP weapons in all of anime I mean all he has to do is pull it out and everybody is instantly under it there's almost no counter to this you'd have to be someone with stronger than him in order to resist but as we saw with Yhwach resisting it is easier said than done like Aizen is just OP for no reason. So much in fact that Aizen planned his own defeat after his final battle against Ichigo it was revealed that Aizen despised having incredible power was lonely deep down in his heart he was looking for an equal which was one of the reasons why he created Ichigo and made him the way he is, it's because he wanted and equal he even fought alongside his equal to defeat Yhwach. Aizen was a cunning intelligent villain who deep down wanted someone who he would call his equal honestly I can understand this I can imagine that after having so much power in the world it could be rather boring and you would want someone to be your equal. It's no wonder they never revealed Aizen's Bankai because that would break the entire series and surpass the even the Hogyoku I wouldn't be surprised if Aizen plans his own death.

1. Madara Uchiha (Naruto)

And finally at number one we have Madara Uchiha. Madara is number one to me is because he's the walking definition of what a human being would look like if they saw evil since the day they were born. Unlike all the villains on this list where they did have a good life before turning evil, Madara never knew what a good life was because if you look deeper into Naruto lore, Madara was born in the Warring States Period where it was a hellish and bad time to be alive as clans will often clash and obliterate everyone in their path none stop so much in fact that nobody was able to live past age 30, even worst children are forced to fight on the battlefield as young as 7 years old maybe younger than that. Either way it's heartbreaking and Madara being forced to fight on the front lines at a young age saw a lot of things that no child should never see like people killing each other in the worst ways possible and watching all of his siblings die right in front of him which affected him physically, mentally, and psychologically, and even years later he saw too much suffering and pain. And even after he founded the Hidden Leaf Village alongside Hashirama, Madara was still no satisfied as he and Hashirama had different ideas to world peace. Those differences led to Madara leaving the village and fighting Hashirama where Madara faked his death and thus in comes the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan. What makes Madara so interesting is because he was born into a state where he never had the chance to live a normal life of peace and joy because war, pain, suffering, loss, and misery. Like imagine this: Imagine if you were born in World War 2 era for the sake of them taking you to the battlefield and despite being around 6 or 7 your country doesn't care about your age and forced you to fight anyway and as a result all the things that you should be doing as a child like watching kids shows, going to school, and playing video games all denied because your entire life you have to do nothing but battle adults on the battlefield, watch thousands of people die, and only be lucky enough to make to adult years passed age 30. That would break anyone and it broke Madara who was right that true peace didn't stop the violence as shinobi continued to fight wars Madara wanted to put an end to all of that so in doing so he used two boys as pawns, one of them inherited Madara's Rinnegan from a village where it's destroyed all the time, and the other one he used his manipulative words and tells him about the world and mad him watch his best friend kill the girl he loves making him fall into darkness. And all of this leads to the Fourth Great Ninja War where Madara attempts to use the Infinite Tsukuyomi to bring true happiness to the world as he didn't want anyone to go through what he went through but obviously Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi oppose him because they had to prove that what Madara is doing is not true peace and is only brainwashing people to live the way he wanted them to live and therefore neglecting human experience as without the bad humans can never learn to grow and that peace can be achieved if they all worked together as a team rather than just use people as pawns which is what Madara did. Madara is the perfect antithesis to Naruto's views on the world. And Madara went through every lengths to get his goals he destroyed an entire army of shinobi, took out all the Tailed Beasts with a punch, and toyed with the Five Kage. Like man Madara's existence alone is more than enough to make the world shake. Though I do wish Madara remained the final villain and save Kaguya and Black Zetsu as the villains for Boruto because having Naruto and hie friends defeat Madara would show Madara once and for all that Hashirama's ways for world peace was the right choice and no I'm not saying Talk no Jutsu like just have Madara realize his mistakes on his own and have Hashirama rekindle their friendship and die in peace. In my opinion Madara is the best anime villain to date as honestly he proved to me that he wasn't truly a villain deep down he showed me that he was just a man who wants to free the world of pain and suffering but is completely misguided.

But anyways guys that includes the list thank you all so much for reading let me know which anime villains do you think deserves to be on the list in the comment section below. And I will see you all next time. Peace.
