Top 10 favorite Anti-Heroes
What's going on guys it's your boy Mario and Sonic gamer and today I'm going over my top 10 favorite Anti-Heroes this a list where we're going over anti-heroes who in my opinion are without a doubt the best in not just anime but just in general. As usual this list is all purely my opinion so you have the right to agree or disagree so without further a do let's get started.
10. Wario (Mario)
Starting this list off with something simple we have the greedy yellow plumber himself Wario, the anthesis to Mario. Unlike Bowser, Mario's archenemy, Wario is Mario's dark reflection, while Mario is kind, heroic, and selfless, Wario is greedy, selfish, and power hungry. I remember not liking this guy in my childhood days not liking Wario but I grew to like him. For a greedy man I admire his ambitions for power he did all kinds of shit like steal Mario's own castle while Mario was away and kidnapped Princess Daisy, started his own gaming company WarioWare, Inc, where he literally makes people who work for him but it's cheep and he doesn't pay him. Even him and Waluigi have attempted to ruin Mario and Luigi's time during various sport games. Wario is so hellbent ok ruining Mario's life and getting as rich as possible that he's not afraid to go to any lengths to do so, some of which are dangerous and downright brutal this dude would torture you if you work for him and if you think he'll pay you you are surely mistaken. Bowser may be Mario's greatest enemy but if Mario ever had a dark reflection it would definitely be in the physical form of Wario no doubt about it.
9. Vegeta (Dragon Ball)
Next up on the list we have the Prince of all Saiyans himself, Vegeta. Ever since he first appeared in Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta has been a lovable character for many many years and for good reason the dude is so fucking badass everything from his arrogant personality, his goals, his character arc, and most of all his rivalry with Goku are all what paved the way for how great Vegeta is. Vegeta started off as an arrogant asshole who worked for Frieza after Planet Vegeta was destroyed, this would cause Vegeta to be enraged and vowed to one day take revenge on Frieza and regain the Saiyan pride. So he worked with Vegeta pretending to be loyal to him planning on killing him one day, however after a chance encounter with Goku, Vegeta cleaned up his act worked together to take down Frieza from then on Vegeta become one of Goku's best allies although they do have a since of rivalry going on with Vegeta's ongoing goal to surpass Goku in anyway he can. Now Vegeta is known to talk multiple Ls it's a joke that's been memed throughout the Dragon Ball fandom and that the only W he takes is when he was clapping Bulma's checks which I find pretty funny because it's mostly true. However in all seriousness all those Ls he takes throughout the series against Goku, Frieza, Cell, the Androids, Majin Buu, Beerus, Broly, Goku Black, Jiren, Moro, Granolah, and Gas are probably the best things for Vegeta's character. Throughout his life Vegata has struggled to maintain his Saiyan pride and baring the burden of his humiliation of his race but seeing Goku and the others use their powers for good sparked a change in him without those losses Vegeta would've never been able to grown as a character nor become a better person which is why moments such as Vegeta sacrificing himself for his som Trunks was truly one of the best moments in anime/manga history because it shows how much Vegeta has grown no longer fighting for his Saiyan pride but for those he cares about and the universe, hell in a recent arc Granolah served as a parallel to Vegeta's past self which I thought was perfect because Vegeta has someone he can relate to. Vegeta may butt heads with Goku every once in a while but in the end Vegeta has proven to be one of the greatest fighters out there without him a vast majority of anime anti-heroes wouldn't be here right now.
8. Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho)
Coming in at number 8 is the hybrid demon himself, Hiei. When I first saw this guy I immediately liked him on sight almost everything about this guy is just so amazing from his personality, his skills, everything about him was just amazing. However behind all of these cool things is a tragic character. Hiei was born to two types of demons, his mother was an ice demon and his father was a fire demon, unfortunately much like fire and ice in real life the fire and ice demons are forbidden to mix and his mother broke that rule on top of that after his mother died giving birth to him. In the anime it was stated she commented suicide but in the actual manga she simply died giving birth to him. And even more worse the ice demons deemed Hiei's very existence to be very dangerous due to his gender and fire heritage so they threw him away in the ocean and was stranded until he was found by bandits who raised him. Imagine your life being screwed from the start because your parents fucked when they were they were not supposed to and then being thrown away like nothing that has to be really messed up no wonder Hiei wanted revenge on the very same nation that threw him away, innocent lives be damned though, so as he grew to be a powerful mercenary, Hiei become merciless, cold, murderous, and very vengeful showing no mercy to anyone who stands in his way and was that way until he met Yusuke after getting his ass beat and added Talk no Jutsu on top of that, Hiei gave up on his goals for vengeance and made new friends and it was thanks to being influenced by Yusuke that when Hiei arrived at the Hyouga he spared the Korime when he could've easily just kill them all and be done with it despite the fact that innocent lives would've been killed in the process but that wouldn't matter because the endgame justified the means to achieving the means of achieving such, yet choose not to and instead has a new goal of protecting his long lost twin sister Yukina with his life this just so how much Hiei has changed and developed as a character though it is said that he never told Yukina that Hiei was her twin brother which makes the situation much more tragic but then again I understand why he wouldn't tell her it was for her own safety though I have a theory that it is possible that she knows Hiei is her brother but chooses not to tell him because she understands that Hiei is doing this for her protection and safety. Hiei is without a doubt one of if not the best best characters in Yu Yu Hakusho I know that's kind of a hot take and an unpopular opinion but in all honesty it wasn't for Hiei there's no way I would've never gotten into the Yu Yu Hakusho story nor what I ever become a fan of the series and it was all thanks to Hiei of the Jogan Eye.
7. Mewtwo (Pokémon)
The runner up of the bottom half of the list is the one and only Mewtwo. What can I say I like this due he is a total badass in the video games but for here I'm going to be talking about Mewtwo from the anime. We have once again yet another tragic he was created by Dr. Fuji through means of cloning the legendary Pokémon, Mew but most importantly it wall this to revive Fuji's late daughter Amber and after several cloning experiments he was pretty much successful Amber and Mewtwo boned and it was honestly one of the most beautiful things I have ever scene. However like most things that bond did not last forever as Amber ended up vanishing in front of Mewtwo's eyes and to make matters worse all of Mewtwo's memories of her vanished thanks to Fuji so when Mewtwo wake up he was in complete and total confusion and feeling betrayed by his creators Mewtwo decided to turn against them and take vengeance against all of humanity in a nutshell being Pokémon friendly and human deadly. He was a mindless fighter destroying everything in his way beating those who ever crossed paths with him making him a much dangerous however in his battle with Mew after Ash turns into stone and seeing all the Pokémon cry over him, Mewtwo finally realizes the error of his ways and realizes that humanity isn't so bad after. Mewtwo's character was honestly one of the most interesting things about Pokémon in general as many people wonder what would've happened if Ambertwo never died but nonetheless Mewtwo finally understood what Amber meant when she says that life was beautiful. Mewtwo is truly one of the best Pokémon out there.
6. Meta Knight (Kirby)
As reach the end of the first half of the list we have the one and only Meta Knight. One of the best concepts of Meta Knight's character is the very fact that he is mostly mysterious like we don't know who this guy is where he came from or how he came to be, all we know is that is that he's basically the same species as Kirby and is essentially a darker version of him. Meta Knight first started off as a villain sent by King Dedede to stop Kirby after Dedede stole the but in reality he was only he only did so because Dedede was trying to stop Nightmare. Meta Knight would usually and occasionally butt heads with Kirby on a few occasions like when Kirby tried to stop Meta Knight who intends to the lazy lifestyle of Dreamland by force basically trying to take over this is one of the few times Meta Knight has ever become a villain but other than he will usually fight alongside Kirby to defend Dreamland. I also like how Meta Knight likes to play fair leaving behind a sword for Kirby to pick up so that the two can start fighting each other. Meta Knight is a really interesting character with a mysterious concept which is honestly pretty cool.
5. Riku (Kingdom Hearts)
Moving on to the Top 5 we have Riku from Kingdom Hearts. Despite having a decent childhood on Destiny Islands alongside Sora and Kairi, Riku did not have the best experience in life when Destiny Islands was attacked by the Heartless, Riku for some reason gave into the darkness and started to antagonize Sora as well as placing other worlds in darkness. In reality Riku was possessed by Ansem who used his body for Kingdom Hearts to pledge everything to darkness and even after he was free the experience of being possessed effectively hunted Riku. Ansem did such a good job at possessing Riku that the later was driven by self guilt over the actions even though they weren't even his fault as Riku would never did all the stuff he did on his own without Ansem's influence despite that Riku treated it as though it is his fault and thus had to go on a journey or redemption to redeem himself for his past actions like I literally don't blame the guy like image being possessed by someone else and would go on to use you to commit multiple acts of genocide something that you yourself would never do yet despite that you are haunted by this because even though it was not your fault you still feels as though it is your fault and you are forced to carry the guilt for the rest of your life it's honestly has to be heartbreaking and putting myself in Riku's shoes I can understand why he feels that which is why he tries to redeem himself in many ways such as watching over Sora while he sleeps for a year, defeated Xemnas and passed the Mark of Mastery exam thankfully being surrounded by Sora and his friends and finally defeated Ansem and Riku Replica which is like facing your past self I'd say Riku has done more than enough to redeem himself for his actions in the first game even though it wasn't his fault.
4. Zero (Mega Man)
Next up we have who is the second best Mega Man character in the Mega Man franchise next to the classic Mega Man himself Zero. Zero is one of the best characters for a number of reasons mainly his character journey. After the events of the original Mega Man series, Dr. Wily was determined to have the final word even if it meant from beyond the grave, Wily created Zero to be superior to the original Mega Man in every way but Zero disobeyed Wily's commands forcing Wily to be sealed away and by the time we reach 21xx when Zero was rediscovered and woken up Zero was just a violent killing machine until Sigma stepped in and put a stop to him though it came at a huge cost Zero turned good but Sigma became evil. This would cause Zero to join the Maverick Hunters alongside Mega Man X who was Dr. Light's last creation during his journey Zero has experienced so many trials he lost his love interest Iris, he encouraged X that despite being machines they have to continue fighting but his most heroic act as by the end or the Maverick wars. After realizing that he was practically the cause of the Mavericks, Zero voluntarily sealed himself away so that the hunters can use his body to create a cure to put an end to the Mavericks and the Sigma virus. But that's not the end of his story Zero woke up having lost his memories and has to fight in another era of war and it would be here that Zero makes the ultimate sacrifice at the cost of his life. Zero's personality, and entire character arc are the reason why he's one of the best Mega Man characters out there you know it's really ironic how Wily's creations are made to cause terror in the world but it was ultimately his final creation Zero that ended up saving the day which is honestly really cool, while Zero is not the best character in the franchise that title goes to the original Mega Man but his character arc and journey is one if the most interesting parts of the franchise and that's why he's the second best.
3. Raiden Mei (Honkai Impact 3rd)
Moving on to the Top 3 is the lighting empress herself, Raiden Mei. Mei is honestly an amazing character for many reasons with her backstory, personality, and most of all her relationship with Kiana which is the best aspect of the entire series. Mei had a pretty sad life from a very young age she lost her mother, had to go to therapy after being kidnapped by a terrorist gang, and was always pretty lonely luckily despite her rich status she had a caring father as well as caring butlers and had multiple friends at school, unfortunately her father was arrested for a crime he didn't commit due to Cocolia framing him so that she can take over his company this was the beginning of the end for her normal life she was bullied and outcast at her school and she felt alone as all of the "friendships" she experienced were just fruads because people only liked her because of her rich status which disappeared along with her father. To make matters worse the Herrscher of Thunder persona took advantage of her loneliness and told Mei to submit this leads to Mei while being possessed by her Herrscher persona to kill her classmates and teachers the same ones that bullied her and then took a step further by starting the Third Eruption by destroying Nagazora turning the city into ruin. Fortunately for Mei, she had hope when she met Kiana who already defended her from bullies, she saved Mei from her Herrscher persona and when Mei attempts to commit suicide guilt ridden by what she's done, Kiana grabbed her hand and never gave up on her and convinced her to live, Kiana was able to spark something in Mei that no other person has before for the first time Mei truly found a best friend who actually cares about her. The two went through Hell together trying to escape Nagazora and later after getting enrolled in St. Freya going on missions together but despite that they both pulled through. Now Kiana was a bit annoying to Mei as she often flirts with her and does things just so Kiana can be with her and has openly admitted to being in love with Mei and insists that Mei loves her back. Mei doesn't mind Kiana's actions long as she's able to contain her public displays of affection. However after Kiana is kidnapped by Schicksal twice, possessed by Sirin, and are ultimately separated, Mei's romantic feelings for Kiana became very clear as she missed Kiana and stated multiple times how much she missed all of Kiana's public displays of affection, and was baffled when the Kiana she met in Arc City was not the Kiana she met in St. Freya anymore. This just sad because Mei was never able to save Kiana from danger thus repaying the favor from when Kiana saved her all those years ago, and this is where things get even sadder when we get to the Nagazora arc where Mei finds out that Kiana has less then two months left to live this cause Mei to get desperate and when Kevin offered Mei a chance to save Kiana's life though in return she would have to join World Serpent, Mei accepted the offer without any hesitation and to make things even more sadder Kiana and Mei fought as Kiana would not stand by and let Mei join World Serpent but Mei doesn't care because Kiana is more important to her than the world itself this just shows how far Mei is willing to fall to the darkest and become a villain and join a terrorist organization that actively kills innocent lives to achieve their goals and if you think Mei would never kill innocent lives well let me quote what Mei said to Kiana: "I only know that deep down... The world means nothing to me... Without you!!" And "You're the most important person in my life. If rescuing you is a sin, I'll gladly become a sinner." Those quotes as well as her actions clearly shows that if she had to choose m who to spare and who to kill between Kiana and millions of innocent lives she would 100% choose to spare Kiana and kill millions or innocent lives that's how much she cares for Kiana. While Kiana is willing to sacrifice herself to save the world, Mei is willing to sacrifice the entire world to save Kiana. Now of course in the end of the first part of the series she admits that she will no longer be selfish for Kiana and grows to be a better person but the point still stands and it shows why Mei's relationship with Kiana is the best part of the entire Honkai Impact 3rd series, she may be a simp but most of the time Mei is almost certainly justified in her plans I can't wait to see what they do with Kiana and Mei's relationship from here and I do hope that if these two have versions of themselves in Honkai Star Rail that their relationship is just as strong as in Honkai Impact 3rd because without her relationship with Kiana I highly doubt Mei would be given the greatest amount of praise she gets.
2. Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)
The runner up for this top 10 goes to none other than Sasuke Uchiha. Like most other characters on this list the moment I saw Sasuke I immediately liked him on sight apart from his cool appearance and and english voice actor what got me invested in Sasuke's character was his origin story, he lived a pretty normal life had two loving parents and a loving older brother named Itachi, however when Sasuke came home he found out his entire Uchiha clan was slaughtered by his older brother Itachi who seemingly did it just for the sake of it, this would enraged Sasuke and caused him to vow to one day become an avenger and this caused Sasuke to be isolated from society not making friends with anyone instead focused on his training but fortunately he met Naruto though at the time Naruto formed a unhealthy rivalry with him because Naruto was jealous of Sasuke but deep down both of them understood each other and saw each other as brothers because both are orphans who are currently experiencing nothing but complete and utter loneliness it wasn't until both found a family in the form of Team 7 that everything changed though Naruto and Sasuke still had their unhealthy rivalry but still had a bond nonetheless but after a change meeting with Itachi, Sasuke decides to take Orochimaru's offer for revenge which didn't sit well with Naruto which leads to their fight in the Valley of the End. It's kinda sad and it hits deeper when Sasuke spared him though Horikoshi fucked it up when he had Sasuke try to kill Naruto out of a wimp but the point still stands as Sasuke still has that bond with Naruto deep down. But things got even worse when after Itachi's death he finds out the truth about Itachi and that Danzo and the leaf elders voted on the death of the Uchiha clan hearing this would make an already pissed off Sasuke even madder than before which would cause Sasuke to seek revenge on the entire leaf village and at that point Sasuke didn't care he didn't care about the innocent lives that would die in the process because the endgame justifies the means and like with several other characters in this list that wouldn't matter because innocent lives be damned seeing this change in Sasuke actually pretty shocking but amazing seeing Sasuke slaughter the samurai and then staring down Danzo and kill him was honestly freaking amazing. But what makes things even more interesting is when Sasuke decides to become his version of Hokage by killing all the other Kage so he can sacrifice himself the same way Itachi did, I know a lot of people give Sasuke shit for what he's done but in all honesty regardless on what people thinks putting myself in Sasuke's shoes I actually understand where Sasuke's coming from because the Shinobi World deserves to pay for it's corruption especially it's corrupted officials and sure I think the current Five Kage are fine but if this was a real life situation I would care less about them nor would I feel sorry for them because honestly anyone with a higher authority needs an example of what happens when they go corrupt. Despite what Sasuke's done he's mostly justified in his goals and like I said innocent lives be damned. But fortunately Naruto was able to help Sasuke realize the error in his mistakes, honestly what makes me like Sasuke even more is after the Fourth Great Ninja War where in the novels Sasuke was conflicted on wether or not if he'll fall into darkness if something happened to his loved ones especially Naruto. Overall Sasuke is a great character and without him or his relationship with Naruto I wouldn't never looked at the series the same like I would originally.
1. Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic)
And finally number one who is without a doubt the best anti-hero in my opinion and that person is none other than Shadow the Hedgehog. From the moment I played him in Sonic Adventure 2 man it was a rap especially during my childhood days. Shadow was instantly one of the best characters in the entire franchise, I liked how he serves as the greatest rival to Sonic, from the moment he was introduced he was dark and cool and edgy but most of all his storyline is by far the most interesting. As we all know more than 50 years ago Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik to be the Ultimate Lifeform but most importantly so that he can find a cure for his dying granddaughter Maria who was dying thanks to an unknown illness, Shadow and Maria shared a great bond with each other but like most things on the list that didn't last, GUN raided the Space Colony Ark and shot Maria dead right in front of Shadow this ultimately leads to Shadow being sealed away for more than 50 years before he finally awakes on his quest to destroy humanity, Shadow was so hellbent on revenge that he was more than willing to take out anyone who stood in his way luckily Sonic and his friends were able to regain Shadow's true memories of Maria who said to promise to protect the world which id exactly what Shadow did. What makes this even more amazing is that even after he lost his memories even after he found out he had Black Doom's blood in his veins Shadow never forgot about the promise she made with Maria. That's awesome character development. Which is why Shadow is the best anti-hero.
But anyways that's going to be it for the list let me know in the comments below if you agree or disagree with this list and also let me know in the comments who are top 10 your favorite anti-heroes. Until next time. Peace.
