Yo what's up guys it's Mario and Sonic fanboy and just recently it was announced at Comic Con that Azula will be returning in her own comic titled Azula in the Spirit Temple.

Now I'm excited for this especially Azula returning she's one of the best if not THE best villain in the entire Avatar franchise now I'm going to be giving out my thoughts on this.

For starters while I am excited for Azula returning I'm also kinda nervous, the reason why it is because of the potential redemption arc, for those of you who don't know there are a lot of people out there who want Azula to have a redemption arc and on top of that one of the writers Aaron Ehasz even put some thought into this.

Personality I do want Azula to have a redemption arc but not in the way people want it let me explain. As we know when we first saw Azula in the original series she was manipulative and very intelligent like she's done lots of terrible things, she wounded Iroh, took on Team Avatar single handily, invaded Ba Sing Se, manipulated Zuko to switch sides, killed Aang while he was in the Avatar State, and even played mind games with Sokka and stalled them long enough without even using her firebending. So yeah she's done a lot of stuff she's the combination of Cinder Fall from RWBY and Dabi from My Hero Academia but what gets me nervous is that this comic might make Azula a full fledged hero and honestly I don't want it, I get it as someone who likes to redeem their villains I can understand why people want it: It presents a message that the world is not black and white but rather it's grey however you have to have some form of black and white and there are some villains who either shouldn't be redeemed or not be full fledged heroes. In Azula's case I want her to be redeemed but not in the way people want, I want her to be redeemed but in a way that she becomes an anti-hero still antagonizing Zuko but also helping him on multiple occasions while I want her to be redeemed I still want to see her be the type of anti-hero who is psychopathic, manipulative, and calculative not change into some full fledged hero like

Now I understand why people want something like that I mean we did see her break down crying at the end of the series not to mention all she wanted deep down all she wanted was love from her family but it's especially love her mother Ursa. I don't care what people say Ursa is just as guilty as Ozai, yes Ozai abused Zuko and used both him and Azula as a means to an end but Ursa herself was not a good mother, from Zuko's point of view she was but from Azula's point of view she's just some woman who favored her first born more and thought that her second born. Azula also believes that her mother thinks she's a monster and if you watch the show and read the comics you would know that she's not wrong like Ursa literally admitted that she wasn't that great of a mother to her and was scared of her, Ursa always claimed she loves Azula but her actions say otherwise and even if she did love her why would didn't she prove it? A true mother would love their child and always be there for them no matter what no matter what, yes Azula made choices that are insane but Ursa could've easily been better than Ozai and love Azula the best way she can just like she did with Zuko had she done that maybe Azula would've had some idea on what love is and not be as evil as Ozai. Ursa was a victim of Ozai no doubt about that but that's no excuse for her own actions. I feel like Ursa as one of the influences of Azula's downfall but I don't think all hope is lost for her I do believe there's hope but if she ends up becoming a full fledged hero rather than anti-hero she might as well not have a redemption arc, like I want Azula to be redeemed in some way I do think she deep down loves her family but one of the reasons why I and so many others is because of her nature so I feel like even if she is redeemed she should still have some form of her nature in her like a violent anti-hero like Harley Quinn and Jinx. I just hope that if we get it Azula becomes more of an anti-hero.
