Another Top 5 matchups I don't want to see in Death Battle
Yo what's up guys it's Mario and Sonic fanboy and today we're going to be Another Top 5 matchups I don't want to see in Death Battle so if you haven't seen my first one make sure you check it out as we're going to be going over the second part of this as like last time we're going to be going over terrible connections and awful dynamic. So without further a do let's get started.
5. Mega Man X VS Samus Aran (Mega Man VS Metroid)
Ohhh boy where do I even begin with this one. All I have to say is that I can never quite get this matchup so I think I have a perfect idea on how we can begin. let's look at the connections shall we?
Both are blue-themed fighters with very high tech armor and powers. Both possess arm cannons (X Buster and Arm Cannon respectively). Both work with a law enforcement organization (The Maverick Hunters to X and the Galactic Federation to Samus). Both have purple-themed rivals who are responsible for what they've become (Vile to Mega Man X and Ridley). Both also have upgraded armors (Ultimate Armor and Varia Suit respectively). Both also have made crossovers from other franchises (Marvel vs Capcom and Super Smash Bros respectively)
Alright first of all having appeared in crossovers applies to literally every single fictional character in existence. Secondly having upgrade armors is nothing new to thousands of other characters so the only connections they have are blue themed heroes with a cannon for an armor and have rivals who are purple. Though that last part is complete and utter bullshit because if anyone is a rival to X it would definitely be Zero and Ridley is not a rival the guy's an archenemy of Samus so connections have been debunked. Both have better options for X be has Optimus Primal from Transformers which looking at this now it is definitely X's best MU.
The connections between Mega Man X and Optimus Primal is that both are 90s successcors to classic and iconic robot heroes from the 80s (Mega Man and Optimus Prime, respectively) set in distant future of both their predecessors are mere memories and the war is over (Mega Man's war against Dr. Wily and Optimus Prime's Great War was over). Both ushered in a new form for their species being the first of their kind (Reploids and Organic Beast Modes, respectively) Both started out with humble begining (X was Dr. Cain's assistant and Primal was some cargo ship pilot) but were forced to embrace their heroism due to war in their current eras (Maverick Wars and Beast Wars, respectively), they both also have enemies who eventually became their friends and allies (Zero and Dinbot, respectively) both are the leaders of heroic organizations (Maverick Hunters and Maximals, respectively) dedicated to fight evil robots (Mavericks and Predacons, respectively) who are led by the main antagonists of their series (Sigma and Megatron, respectively). However they ended up making some questionable moral choices despite their heroism, Ultimately leading to the near extinction of their race (The end of the Beast Wars and Elf Wars, respectively) But in the end both gave their life to restore their world, bringing about a new age where the technological and organic were merged and were as one. Ultimately restoring things after their conflict. They also went on becoming spiritual guides for the next generation.
Well would you look it that not only does X have more connections with Primal but the connections make more sense than Samus. Not to mention the dynamic is about 90s robot heroes who are the successors of 80s robot heroes. And as for Samus well she already has Boba Fett who by the way is not only her best but makes much more sense. Now I'm going to say this because I don't care if it's popular I don't care how many fans it has, and I don't care how more likely it is to appear on Death Battle a trash matchup is a trash matchup so stop making excuses their getting old in fact being popular proves my point on how overrated the fight is just like with Meta Knight VS Zero. Seriously people are so desperate for a Nintendo VS Capcom themed fight that their willing to take these fights with little to no connections, connections that are copied and pasted from other great matchups, with terrible dynamic, lie to everyone saying this is best MU for both, and trash other fights like Riku VS Meta Knight, Shadow VS Zero, Mega Man X VS Optimus Primal, and Boba Fett VS Samus Aran and make it seem like it's the worst MU for both when in reality it's the opposite and the other way around. I don't care about popularity that doesn't justify you overhyping this trash matchup and I don't care if it's more than likely to appear because I will shit Death Battle so bad it won't even be funny. Mega Man X VS Samus Aran is trash plan and fucking simple. Period. No debate.
4. King K. Rool VS Blackbeard (Mario VS One Piece)
This one is a fight that existed out of nowhere and I never liked this fight on sight it's just.... Why? Just why? The only connections that they have is that their both overweight villains, who have a pirate crew, want to conquer the world, have superpowers, and are the villains to the protagonist. Which by the way all of these connections apply to almost every other character I can think of meaning that this fight was copied and paste from other matchups. The only reason why this fight exists was just so that both characters don't have to fight their actual better opponents. For K. Rool it's King Dedede from Kirby.
The connections between King Dedede and King K. Rool is that their both overweight, greedy, and goofy self-proclaimed kings who are the leaders of respective groups (Waddle Dees and Kremlings, respectively) both are known for stealing food from their respective owners (Dedede stole all of Dreamland's food and K. Rool stole bananas from the Kongs) both also have unique weapons and abilities including their iconic ones (Dedede's hammer and K. Rool's crown, respectively) both are also the enemies/rivals to a heroic and selfless protagonist (Kirby and Donkey Kong, respectively) and finally despite being a species of an animal that can't fly the somehow found creative ways (Dedede copied Kirby's inhaling and K. Rool has a helicopter).
Yeah the connections aren't much but they make much more sense than Blackbeard the dynamic for this fight is abundantly: Two overweighted kings of greed. And yes I know Dedede has Wario but even still this is a pretty good alt. The second reason why K. Rool VS Blackbeard came to existence was to get K. Rool away from his other best MU Gruntilda from Banjo-Kazooie.
The connections between King K. Rool and Gruntilda is that their both mean, green, and overweight evil villains who has been causing trouble in their respective worlds, both are the archenemies of a duo (Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong and Banjo & Kazooie, respectively), both have goals of world domination, both posses some supernatural abilities and equipment, both have or attempted to steal something from heroes before (Donkey King's bananas and Tooty's beauty, respectively) both have also been responsible for kidnapping a hero (Donkey Kong and Tooty, respectively) and finally both seek world domination no matter the cost. And a little fun fact both mentioned something about a family member (K. Rool's wife and Gruntilda's sisters, respectively).
Much like with King Dedede the connections aren't much but it's much more balanced enough to make a good them for the fight especially since the dynamic is two green and mean overweighted villains. Both King Dedede and Gruntilda both are K. Rool's best opponents with balanced connections and dynamic that doesn't apply to thousands of other characters, like I swear people don't want King K. Rool to fight his best opponents and instead fight someone like Blackbeard and speaking of which the third reason why the fight exists is to keep Blackbeard away from his best opponent Tomura Shigaraki from My Hero Academia.
The connections between Blackbeard and Shigaraki is that both were orphans at a very young age before encountering a powerful leader figure (Whitebeard and All For One, respectively) respectively and joined their cost, as time goes on they eventually became leaders of their own villain group (Blackbeard Pirates and League of Villains, respectively) both eventually gained an even higher status (Blackbeard became an Emperor of the Sea and Shigaraki became the leader of the Paranormal Liberation Front) they also weld incredible abilities that can destroy almost anything they touch (The Dark-Dark Fruit and the Decay quirk, respectively) both also seek world domination with important tools (The One Piece and the One For All quirk, respectively) eventually both turned against their former masters with the intent on becoming more independent and inherited new abilities from their former masters (The Tremor-Tremor Fruit and the All For One quirk, respectively) on top of that they both have abilities that allow them to steal powers from others (The The Dark-Dark Fruit and the All For One quirk, respectively). Furthermore they act as an evil counterparts and dark reflections of the series main protagonists (Monkey D. Luffy and Izuku Midoriya, respectively).
So as you can see here both K. Rool and Blackbeard clearly have better opponents but people don't want them to fight them so to separate them from their best this matchup came to existence which is honestly the most pitiful excuse I have ever seen in a versus matchup like the connections for Blackbeard and Shigaraki not only make sense but they work well for each other not to mention the dynamic is definitely about villains who are what the heroes would've became. I'm sick and tired of people overhyping matchups like this and making them popular like this is why Death Battle does terrible matchups because people keep requesting shit like K. Rool VS Blackbeard when in reality they should be requesting their actual best. But whatever I already know what I'm going to do once this matchup comes out.
3. Ms. Marvel VS Izuku Midoriya (Marvel VS My Hero Academia)
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
Boy these people just love this whole "Overhype a bad matchup" game do they. In case you guys aren't aware this fight is basically Miles VS Deku all over again like...... Why? Just why? And don't try and say "On Horikoshi is a huge Marvel fan" because that shit is getting old. But anyways time to take a look at the supposed connections.
Two teenagers who live in world where Superheroes is everywhere. Both of them are known for being big superhero nerd. Both of them have Superheroes who they see as their Hero figures (Yagi Toshinori/All Might for Deku and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel for Kamala). Both of them always dreaming to become hero despite they are being part of minority (Deku being people who born as 20% people who are quirkless and Kamala being muslim in non-muslim majority country). They eventually gained superpowers which finally allow them to achieves their dreams to become Heroes of justice. Both of them are known for being cheerful and optimistic person. After gained new powers, They worked hard to become successors of previous generation Heroes (Deku being next One For All user and also All Might successors while Kamala being the next Ms.Marvel after Carol stop being Ms. Marvel and become next Captain Marvel).
Okay so in case you didn't get the memo the entire connections of this entire fight are LITERALLY copied and pasted from Deku's best matchups. Gon VS Deku and Deku VS Akko. Let's review this piece by piece.
"Two teenagers who live in world where Superheroes is everywhere."
Yeah it's not like this logic applies to most Marvel and DC characters. Also should I mention that Akko and Gon also grew up in a world where the supernatural is natural?
Both of them have Superheroes who they see as their Hero figures (Yagi Toshinori/All Might for Deku and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel for Kamala)
Gon and Akko having their hero figures such as Ging Freecss and Shiny Chariot go burr.
Both of them always dreaming to become hero despite they are being part of minority (Deku being people who born as 20% people who are quirkless and Kamala being muslim in non-muslim majority country)
Uhh being in a muslim in a non-muslim isn't really a bad thing and it's nothing compared to being powerless in a world where 80% of the world has powers. Also I know someone's gonna bring this yes Ms. Marvel was bullied by a girl named Zoe but the reason why isn't because she had zero superpowers and Zoe does it's because she was white girl privileged and a spoiled brat which all of that is nothing compared to Bakugo bullying Deku because he was Quirkless and Diana be littled Akko because of status of not being born in a witch family not to mention being unable to fly on a broom so yeah. Do I even need to mention Killua for what he's done to Gon?
They eventually gained superpowers which finally allow them to achieves their dreams to become Heroes of justice.
Not only does this applies to other characters but Deku got One For All on purpose because it's not like Kamala was approached by Captain Marvel and said "You can be a hero" and passed down her powers, it's not like she jumped into a portal and just so happens to weld the same powers as her idol like in Akko's case.
Both of them are known for being cheerful and optimistic person.
So we're going to ignore that Gon and Akko are also cheerful and optimistic or literally almost every Shonen protagonist.
They worked hard to become successors of previous generation Heroes (Deku being next One For All user and also All Might successors while Kamala being the next Ms.Marvel after Carol stop being Ms. Marvel and become next Captain Marvel).
Yeah because it's not like Akko didn't dream of becoming a witch who puts a smile on people's faces like Shiny Chariot or Gon wanted to be like Ging Freecss.
So yeah as you can tell here, despite having a huge number of connections this fight has all of it was copied and pasted from Deku's best opponents Gon and Akko (not to mention the logos behind it applies to other characters) you know something's wrong with the matchup if it's outright copied and paste from other matchups and before someone says: "But I can say the same thing with Gon and Akko." Except you can't because what makes the connections Deku has with Gon and Akko work is because it fits Deku well like power wash both Gon and Deku have powers that literally breaks down their bodies and despite that they still continue to fight and Deku and Akko are literally mirror images of each other in almost every way outside of having "Academia" at the title of their series names they have similar personalities, in terms of storylines and settings, and desires or wanting to put a smile on people's faces and inspiring others. How can people look at this fight and say it has best connections and dynamic? I'll give it credit for being better than Miles VS Deku connection wise but what makes it even worse is that the fight is equivalent of Luffy fighting Deku which is just awful especially their abilities would not work for the animation like we have a guy who has multiple abilities vs a girl who can stretch her arms. Not great animation quality. From what I heard Stargirl from DC is a better opponent for Ms. Marvel I have yet to find any detailed similarities but from I heard their quite similar and the dynamic seems to be balanced so it can work. Now I know someone's going to "Oh great another Marvel VS DC fight." Look mate if another Marvel VS DC fight just so happens to work much better than a Marvel VS My Hero Academia fight then it works better just like with Miles VS Static. Fortunately if Deku does appear he has a much higher chance at fighting Gon than Ms. Marvel so I hope it comes true because if it doesn't and Deku ends up fighting Miles or Ms. Marvel I'm gonna blow up.
2. Yoda VS Meta Knight (Star Wars VS Kirby)
As if Meta Knight VS Zero wasn't bad enough we have this one. Man I feel like this fight is another desperate attempt to get Meta Knight into Death Battle. This is backed up by the zero/false amount of connections such as small characters who are mentors to the protagonists. Yeah that's pretty much it if there's more I'm pretty sure it's copied and pasted from other matchups. This fight literally screams why? Meta Knight wasn't even a mentor in the games sure he was in the anime but the anime is non-canon and even then that logic applies to other characters including one from Yoda's actual best opponent King Mickey. Honestly I literally don't know how this fight came to be thankfully both have better opponents Riku and King Mickey both of whom just so happened to be Kingdom Hearts characters and I already said what I need to say about Riku being Meta Knight's best MU in my first part but here I will reference his good alt Schezo Wegey from Puyo Puyo so you can get a good idea on why that fight is better.
The connections between Meta Knight and Schezo is that dark swordsman who are the rivals to the series main protagonists (Kirby and Arle Nadja, respectively). Both weld the color blue whose swords (Galaxia and Dark Sword, respectively) that are sentient (Galaxia being a sword capable of having its own consciousness choosing who wields it while the Dark Sword having fought Schezo to prove he was worthy of wielding it). Their swords also contrast in what they were made for (light and darkness, respectively) but are also found in some sort of dark place (A cave for Galaxia and a dungeon for the Dark Sword). Both in their first appearances were a mystery to the player acting as just another enemy to be fought, but had traits which put them apart from the others (Meta Knight being revealed to be similar in appearance to Kirby when his mask comes off, and Schezo even while being decapitated by Arle continued to fight with just his head). The two chose to live in solitude and are men of few words (Meta Knight not speaking at all if not merely grunts and Schezo doesn't talk to much). Both value their power above all else taking great pride in it and wanting to become stronger every day (Meta Knight wanting to grow stronger wishing at one point to fight the strongest warrior in the galaxy whom had been sealed away, and Schezo wanting to defeat people to absorb their power, often studying strong people in order to fight them, the person in this case being sealed away). They had a shaky start with the protagonist (Meta Knight due to Kirby slashing through his entire crew and Schezo due to Arle killing him). Due to this, they clash with them many times throughout the series, becoming a rival of sorts not counting the goofy kings on the sidelines (King Dedede and Satan, respectively).
Now most of theses connections also applies to Riku but even with that the connections work much better with Meta Knight than Yoda does. At first when Yoda was first announced I was scared that their actually going to have fight Meta Knight which would make no sense and a wasted operating for Meta Knight. Luckily Death Battle was able to surprise us with a better opponent like King Mickey who surprisingly makes sense as Yoda's opponent and we can only hope that it stays that way.
Before we get to my number one pick here are some honorable mentions
Honorable mentions
Roxas VS Dark Pit (Kingdom Hearts VS Kid Icarus)
I used to like this now I don't, especially since Sora VS Pit appearing was already trash enough. Plus it's just a mirror and repeat of it you can add as much paint as you like at the end of the day it's still a repeat. Thank god Roxas VS Axl exists.
Ozai VS Endeavor (Avatar VS My Hero Academia)
This was a good matchup back then but if you read the recent chapters of My Hero Academia you would know that outside of being abusive fire dads, having scared sons, evil blue flamed children, and disappearing wives these two have absolutely NOTHING in common because at least Endeavor had the best interests at heart but Ozai was just a psychopath from the start. Besides we already have Zuko VS Shoto and Azula VS Dabi so we don't need another Fire Nation VS Todoroki themed battle. On top of that I shears Endeavor has better.
Beta Bay Ray VS Meta Knight (Marvel VS Kirby)
Yet another example of how desperate people want to see Meta Knight appear on Death Battle with a terrible opponent....... Please kill me.
Dabi VS Kokushibo (My Hero Academia VS Demon Slayer)
This fight already came into existence and I already dislike it especially with half-truth and lie connections. WTF do we need another terrible evil sibling MU. Azula and Winter Schnee are already enough for Dabi (especially since they make more sense) we don't need another one. Plus I also think Iori Yagami is enough too.
Katsuki Bakugo VS Raphael (My Hero Academia VS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
This has to be a joke right? There's no way a matchup where the only connections they have is anger issues would actually be taken seriously and if it does then I think I fulfilled my purpose...
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
1. Kirby VS Mega Man (Nintendo VS Capcom)
Bro..... No words can describe how confused and frustrated I was when I found out that people actually want this.... As if Meta Knight VS Zero wasn't bad enough some people actually want to see Kirby return to fight either Mega Man or Mega Man X and I've actually gotten into an argument with people trying to defend this matchup but that just shows how desperate some people are with wanting another Nintendo VS Capcom themed fight straight up. The only connections they have is copy abilities COPY ABILITIES literally ANY CHARACTERS I CAN THINK OF CAN DO. THE EXACT! SAME! THING! And yet somehow people want this or X because it goes great with Meta Knight VS Zero. You know what? I'm going to be mentioning the connections of their actual bests so that way you all can understand why these characters don't need to return (unless if their fighting their good alts) starting with Kirby VS Majin Buu.
The connections between Kirby and Majin Buu are that both are cute, innocent-looking, pink, puffy beings, but are actually incredibly powerful and terrifying. Both come from outer space and landed on a distant planet (Planet Popstar and Earth, respectively). Both have the ability to absorb their opponents and mimic their abilities (Kirby's Inhaling ability and Buu uses his flesh) and can take on any forms of the victims they copy, both of their pink bodies also don't allow them to feel any form or pain, despite having terrifying abilities both use them to help bring peace to their worlds and join heroic organizations (Star Warriors and Z-Fighters, respectively).
Now moving on to Mega Man VS Astro Boy.
The connections between Mega Man and Astro Boy are that they are both heroic and robotic with an appearance of a child created by scientists (Dr. Light and Dr. Tenma, respectively) both didn't start off as heroes instead were created for specific reasons (Mega Man was created to be Light's assistant and Astro Boy was created to replace Tenma's late son Tobio) but eventually they started to become heroic after upgrades from caring scientists (Dr. Light and Dr. Ochanomizu, respectively) and fight evil robots including mad scientists (Dr. Wily and Dr. Tenma, respectively).
As for X I already said what I needed to say why Optimus Primal is his best but you'd should get the idea by now, clearly both characters already have their best and therefore this matchup has no need for existing. I can't believe people overhype these Nintendo VS Capcom or better yet Kirby VS Mega Man themed battles and try to make it seem like their either the best or good alt for both it's so ridiculous, people seriously need to stop overhyping matchups that are pulled out of the ass and have zero/copied and pasted connections from other matchups.
But that's it for the list thank you all so much for reading let me know in the comments below if you agree or disagree with this and I will see you all next time. Peace.
