Summary: An elderly woman name Freya resided in Dunholm for many years. When Sihtric's mother dies, she takes him under her wing and looks after him. In exchange, he helps her around her home and other menial chores as she is often dealing with aches from aging. They have a sweet bond and he looks up to her immensely. She outlives three husbands and 10 of her 15 children and has several grandchildren and great grandchildren scattered around. She is respected enough around Dunholm as she is eldest person there, she's in her 80's to early 90's. She was a midwife for 50 years but eventually stopped because of her aches.

She decides to go with them to Coccham after Kjartan dies as Dunholm has a lot of memories and she believes that new scenery will do her some good. Plus, she's never traveled far outside of Dunholm as she was born and raised there. So, she's eager to move to another place. Uhtred and Finan hold respect for her as she is an elderly and stern when she needs to be. She can very quickly put Finan in line and encourage Uhtred to think things through before acting. Freya gets used to Coccham and loves it. She decides to help out the midwives and give advice and tips, along with helping pregnant women with reassurances, teas, and other things to soothe them.

Finan jokingly calls her the "Granny of Coccham" and she takes that title very seriously. Giving treats to the little children along with stories, giving stern warnings to rambunctious teens and drunken young adults. Just generally looking out and aiding the people.

She met Sihtric's wife and their children and she fell in love with the little ones easily. She spends most of her free time aiding his wife with the little ones and engaging them with stories.
