42. Spending time1

Hiccup's POV

After few other disagreement, Gem came to us, informing us the meal is ready. Thanks Thor, finally! We immediately took off and flew straight there.

They found a nice great place I have to admit. It's a bit away from the village and still in sight. Everyone was sitting in a circle, I suppose the dragons have already eaten. I jumped off, than Toothless went for his well deserved pack of fish.

I joined the riders, there were different type of meals ready. Fish soup, sushi, grilled fish, few of them were still cooking fish on a stick, on one of Gem's nightmare.

*Eret* - Sup Night? Heather told me it's rough.

- Oh, why would it be? They are hunting dragon for generation... it's easy to show them.

*Eret* - Here's a plate, eat something, you'll need your strength.

- Indeed.

I got some soup for myself, and sat down to the ground. I enjoyed their company very much, they joked around a lot... while everyone kept an eye out at the Berkians.

They were curious, and always found something to do, AROUND us.

After the meal I grabbed some sushi for snack I went to interact with our dragons. Sometime it's good to play with each of them... and it was good to move more actively, after all I've been sitting all day!

The others weren't as comfortable with being watch, maybe I don't bother myself since I know them. I helped Astrid with a few exercise so she could train with her dragons.

Let's change plans.

Only I go in, the others try to convince the others, the dragons are not harmful.

I told my new plan to the team, they didn't like it but I didn't care. At least Fishleg and Astrid can practice and don't suffer in the meeting. I said my goodbyes, than went back to the Main Hall where were only a few person.

The meeting continued... we stared each other without saying any word. Nobody wished to start the argument.

- ... I feel like we are not getting anywhere by talking.

*Gobber* - Agreed. What do you suggest than?

- I dunno. - I crossed my arms and leaned back. -  I mean is there any reason why you don't listen to me at all? I know it's a tradition here, the dragon killing, but is there more to it? Or you already decided you won't listen? If so than there was no point for me to come here.

They said nothing. I see. I sighed as I stood up and started to put on my stuff.

- I thought seeing few member of your tribe here, even if they are considered being traitor, but seeing them on a dragon will help to consider this change. I'm not so sure anymore. Leastways, I think we should call for a day. Tomorrow I want answer: is there any point of this meeting or it's just waste of time.

With that my cloak was already on, as I spun around I let it fly. Toothless looked at them than at me, shrugged and followed me out.

- I'm sick of it. Shall we fly?

*Toothless* - OF COURSE!

He roared, which caused the villagers to jump, I snickered at their reactions. I petted his head than we took off.

We were having fun, the time just flew by! It was already getting dark!

We turned back to Berk.

It's still so nostalgic!

We landed near to our camp, there were barely any dragon the others went into the forest not so long ago, I've seen them in the air.

I let Toothless go, he went to play with some dragons... and I went for a walk.

Unconsciously I turned towards to forge. Hm. I may fond Gobber in there... and I was right. The fire was already on and he worked on something, and I just stood at the entrance. I suppressed my urge to go in as I usually did, I just stood there and examined. It's still the same, barely changed anything.

*Gobber* - Heya! Can I help?

I shook my head.

- Sorry to bother.

*Gobber* - Don't mind it.

- ...um. I don't interfere anymore...

I was about to go...

*Gobber* - You can stay lad. It's quite boring alone.

- Don't you have any assistant?

*Gobber* - ... I... had. Since than I'm alone in here.

- I'm sorry.

*Gobber* - ...This is the reason why the chief is so not trusting. It was his son, and he was taken by a nightfury.

- ......... I understand. I'm sorry. ... aaand apologize me for the question, but you seem kinda okay with dragons despite everything.

*Gobber* - If you can keep secret, I tell you. The little dragon of yours helped me out a lot. And being honest, if you wanted to harm Berk you would have done it by now, wouldn't you?

- You have a point there. ... by the way I'm a blacksmith too.

*Gobber* - Really? The great Dragon Conqueror is spending countless hours in a rusty forge too?

- May sounds crazy but yes. Currently I don't really have any of my greatest piece... but for example the claws and the sword are my work.

*Gobber* - Uhum.

- Can I walk around? I hardly ever see other forge other than mine.

*Gobber* - Sure.

I was wondering around like I've never been here before. I even recognized a few piece! My father's axe got my attention, and I lifted down from it's place and checked the familiar patterns, every little scratch.

It's sooo nostalgic.

I've learnt a lot through the years, now I understood some stuff more.

No wonder my father likes it.

I put it back.

I examined everything that I wanted to remember and recall.

I wonder what my room is used for now.

I peeked in.

*Gobber* - That was the kid's room. Feel free to go in, if you watch your steps. We barely moved anything.

- Why?

*Gobber* - It's a kind of memory for us. It was unexpected, he was weak, but somehow he understood the dragons and defeated all of them. He was a miracle. But... than...

He sighed. I wanted to cry. I've never heard anyone talking like this about me on Berk.

I walked in, end now I could tear up a bit. All I wanted now, to tell him the truth. I'm alive, I'm here!

Gobber's POV

He started to nosing around, I didn't like it, but I could say nothing why shouldn't he look at my forge.

So I let him be.

I froze when he lifted Stoick's axe. I was about to yell at him, but his hands were so gentle with the metal, and with experienced moves he examined the work so carefully but certainly.

I said nothing.

He is really a blacksmith.

He wondered around until he found the kid's "lair", but hesitated waited for my permission.

I told him it's free to go in.

After a while I checked on him, since he was way too quiet, he was looking at some drawings that he found in there.

Hiccup's POV

I didn't take all of my drawings when I left, because it would have been suspicious.

It's nice to see them again.

I may retry to build a few of my older ideas.

Afterthan I chat a little with him.

- Thank you for letting me in.

*Gobber* - ... no problem. I should be the one to thank you for keeping me company.

- Oh, it's really nothing.

*Gem* - DINNER!

*Gobber* - Again, here? What does he want?

- The dinner is ready. Care to join us?

*Gobber* - With the dragons? Nah. They already had dinner with me.

I laughed as he gestured towards his missing limbs.

- I still hang around dragon killers even though they took my leg. - I raised it a bit. - I swear they won't hurt you. They don't even prefer neither the human flesh neither the soup we make, so they probably will be away from us.
