Chapter 8

You provoke her until she roars, and then get upset at her for becoming the monster you created.

It took me a while to pacify my raging breath, and wrap my head around the catalysmic impact of my lapse of judgment.

Every disoriented thing in the room, destroyed miscellaneously, made my heart sink considerably lower in the pit of my stomach, and reminded me of the inconsiderate fool that I've been.

Not more than ten feet away, lay a thoroughly dilapidated Hunter, pushed to an insentient stage by my extremely vexed room mate, who still didn't seem anywhere near satisfied.

Oh Ethan, what have you done?

Not just to him, but yourself.

My hands ached to reach out and comfort him. It didn't take a genious to realise that the fight was about me, given the number of times Ethan had said my name while inflicting grave bodily harm on his victim.

My feet made a move to carry me towards him, but came to a halt as I realised that I was still being held by Theo. Securely. My breath hitched. This was not good. How could I not estimate the impact of my proximity with Theo on Ethan? Shit. He'd made his interest in me, more than evident, and here I was, mistaking it for harmless flirting.

My eyes had been so preoccupied, wondering around, that they'd failed to notice Theo's arms around me.

Theo's fucking catalyst of arms.

I propeled him aside hurriedly, and rushed towards the man who was chanting my name incessantly like a maniac.

"How dare you say that about Hera, you bastard." Punch." She" Punch. "Is" Punch."Nothing like her." Kick.

"Say another word about her and you are dead. Fuck no! You breathe in her freaking direction and I'll rip your throat apart. Do you understand?", Ethan's roar echoed around the hall and people shrunk back unconsciously.

"Answer me you goddamned motherfucker!", he bellowed again, and shook Hunter by the collar.

I would be surprised if he lives to see the light of another day, Ethan. Save your mind the trouble of going ahead in time.

As he made another move towards the nearly deceased kid, I pulled him back, and into my chest. He flinched once, but relaxed, when he felt the familiarity of my embrace.

"Good god Ethan! What were you thinking?", the question rolled off my tongue before I could stop it.

He smiled.

"About you."

Ah, of course. You, and your bloody ways with women.

"And that explains the voilence, how?", I shot another question, trying to stiffle my smile.

"The bastard had it comming darling. If not me, Lucas would've done the honors. And trust me, I've got nothing on him. The man's lethal."

I swallowed, hard, and helped Ethan on his feet. We were about to leave for our dorm, when a certain thought had my knees go weak with fear.

"Please don't tell me that you guys have cameras here.", I pleaded desperately, to which he solemnly replied,

"Okay, I won't."

"How convincing indead.", I seethed.

His nonchalance regarding his own welfare peturbed me exceedingly, since I knew for a fact that he had issues with his father, and a deadly brawl would do little to help the situation. To think he'd let this happen, knowing the consequences, was distraughting to say the least.

"Why do you even care?", my conscience jabbed not-so-subtly, ushering me past the swarm of people in the process. Solitude. I suddenly realised just how much I needed it.

I could hear my name being called in the background, but it did nothing, except catalyse my speed. Tired from all the dancing I'd done earlier, my feet ached immensively, but refused to cease their movement. Atleast not until they triped over something, making me clash against someone's chest.

"Hey.", the person breathed, " You okay there?"

I nodded slightly, and looked around to realise that I'd reached a garden, where the moon beams played ebulliently, with every article of the nature and filled one's senses with a strange sense of calmness.

"Beautiful isn't it? The night and the stars?", the man whom I'd bumped into, whispered lightly.

I chuckled softly. "They surely are. But my biased fancy towards the moon, mostly fades the stars to the background."

He choaked, and my eyebrows furrowed at the action.

"Did I offend you in anyway?", concern clouded my features as I studied the outline of his disturbed image. "I just don't admire the stars as much as the moon."

The stranger cleared his throat. "Christ no! Of course not. Your words just reminded me of someone.", his voice sounded so distant, and the hollowness of the tone triggered in me, an unexplainable urge to comfort him.

"Lost someone you loved?", I couldn't help but ask.

"Many.", came his croaked reply.

I smiled faintly.

"Me too, mate. Me too."

He chuckled at that, and said,

"Well, well, the night is too beautiful for melancholy. Isn't it? Tell me something about yourself, and start with the reason that had you running for the hills earlier."

I cringed. "Nothing much. Teenage drama and stuff."

"And I'm sure, by that, you meant guys trouble and stuff?" He offered suggestively and I could basically hear the smile in his voice.

A hearty laugh bubbled my throat and I said, "God, I need to see your face. You have to be the most likable guy ever. Not in the romantic sense, of course."

"Ouch.", he chuckled. "Now that's insulting. We could be soulmates, for all you know."

"You have to show me your face for that though.", I chuckled childishly.

And the alcohol finally decides to dominate the conversation. How wonderful is that?

As he didn't make a move, I grabbed his arm to pull him into light, but retreated with a screech, when I heard my name being called into the distance.

"Shit. Shit. Shit. They found me. Hide you fool. Make me hide. Where do I hide?", I muttered numerous unintellectual sentences, to which the mysterious guy sushed me, and led me behind some bushes.

And that was how adorably obvious the hiding place was.

"Your name's Hera?", the words came out of his mouth with what seemed like a great force.

"Yeah, why? Is there a problem?"

"N-no. It's beautiful. Your name, I mean. Very beautiful."

"Oh okay. Hush now, or they'll find us.", I reproached as harshly as my alcohol induced self could muster.

"They already did, kid." He whispered, and just on cue, a torch flashed upon us, making me turn my face to the other side, the strangers side.

My eyes widened in disbelief at the sight. H-how was it posible? It couldn't be! My eyes had to be playing tricks on me. I rubbed them. Again and again. Until they hurt, and I could feel moisture beneath my fists.

He removed my hands from my eyes, and gently lifted my chin.

"Seems like we are soulmates afterall, huh? Just not the romantic kind." He chuckled, while wiping his own moist eyes.

I sobbed uncontrollably, and he pulled me to his chest.

"The years have surely done you justice, little sister.", he said with a small smile, making me cry even harder.
