Chapter 6

                       "Beware,
                 for I am fearless,
                   and therefore,
                       powerful."

--Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley.

She allowed her eyes to roam over my body in a vehement inspection.

People here tended to do that a lot.

"What is it in you that draws them all like a moth to a flame?"

I couldn't shield my face from the annoyance that overcame it, at the ridiculousness of her question.

"Seriously?", the languid vociferation left my lips. "Look, I really don't have any time for this, Rebecca. So unless you have an essentially pressing matter to discuss, leave."

"And that's exactly what I'll do, once I've shown you your place.", she sneered and stepped towards me, in what she thought was a manacing manner. I resisted the urge to giggle.

Why do these people assume that just because a student is new, you can have them lick the dust off your feet?

"Get over yourself Becca. Whatever you are trying to prove to your brother, isn't worth the trouble of getting your name dragged through the gutter. Drop the evil sister act and embrace any chance you get to be with your family. Not everyone has the same privilege. And as for my place in this school, which you deemed necessary to point out, it doesn't and shouldn't concern you."

She opened her mouth to respond, but I raised a hand, halting her action, and made my way out.

I'd seen my fair share of house-wretchs, curtsey to this very supercilious despositon, and each time, there's this overpowering urge to knock the living daylight out of those insolent people, who don't realise what they've lost until its too late.

Trying not to let the obnoxious kid get to my head, I roamed around aimlessly, in hope of finding a diversion.

And I did find one.

In the form of a hysterical Evangeline, running towards me, as she shouted my name and shoved people aside unappologetically. Typical Evie. A smile broke on my lips at her infantile behaviour, but I stiffled it, fearing her fury, and my sanity.

Once she reached me, she paused for a few seconds to catch her breath, before grabbing my hand and running once again, taking me along.

"What the hell?", I managed to choke out at the manhandling, but my question went unanswered, as Evie sushed me and continued to drag me towards a destination, which I knew nothing about.

The wayfare appeared to be a haze of unknown hallways and staircases, until we reached a familiar corridor and then..my dorm?

You've got to be kidding me! All this hustle to reach my fucking dorm?

I pined Evie with a fierce glare, but the girl didn't even flinch. Instead, she tred towards my wardrobe and began to throw few of my dresses unceremoniously on the bed.

And this keeps on getting better!

"If you don't mind me asking", I grit through my teeth, "What exactly is going on here?

"Well, If you must know, I'm trying to save you from the mortification of commiting a faux pas, which is exactly what you'll do, if you don't show up, perfectly dressed, at the party downstairs, within next two hours."

Party?

"Party?", I routed at her. "You should've told me earlier, you idiot! Would have saved you the trouble of doing all this. I'm not going to any party. I refuse to.", I declared, and drooped my body slothily on the bed.

Evie gasped. The dramtic gasp, where one of your hand flies to your mouth and the other rests firmly on your chest, like someone has caused you a great dere.

"Heavens, no! Like hell would I allow you to do that. The party is mandatory for the seniors, okay. It's sort of a welcome party which the school hosts every year, for new students. And seeing this is not a house party that you can voluntarily skip, I assure you, that your absence will cause quite a frenzy. Don't allow that to happen, Hera. This school doesn't have the kindest of people."

I sighed. What could I even say to that?

"This has to be the only school where going to cafeteria and parties is compulsary."

Evie laughed at this, but didn't cease her quest for the "perfect dress" for the party night.

I decided to take a shower, once I realised that my beloved friend is going to be engaged for a while.

After I was done, I wrapped a towel around myself and steped outside the bathroom. The first thing that greeted me was Ethan's smiling face and I lunged at him.

"I missed you so, damn, much Ethan!", I said, while clinging fiercely to him. Rebecca's face flashed in my mind, and I hugged him tighter. How could someone not love this guy?

"Hey, hey, what happened Hera? Did someone say anything to you?"

I shook my head at that, and blinked back my tears. Hera Harrington never cried.

"I just missed you silly. Couldn't you find a few minutes to come meet me?" My lower lip stuck out, and he laughed.

"Well, We'll have to do something to compensate that, right?"

He smiled at the little nod that I gave him, and pushed a pretty little maroon skirt and top in my hand, before retreating towards the exit of the dorm without waiting for a reply, to his declaration -

"Take this dress and be ready in an hour. I'll be your escort tonight."

Ah, how very Ethanic. Charming and self assured.

I smiled and slipped on the dress. Evie did the same after taking a bath, and then we did each other's hair and makeup.

I must commend Ethan's choice though. I felt beautiful in the dress.

Evie looked stunning too, in her short black dress which accentuated her curves and showed her beautiful long legs.

Elijah had come a few minutes ago to escort Evie, and we were all gushing over each other's looks, when the bell rang. I rushed to open the door, but the person that stood there was clearly not the one I was expecting. I froze. There he was. As handsome, and well, as hostile as ever.

"Theo.", Evie voiced her acknowledgement, but other than that, there was nothing but deafening silence.
