I'm Worth It
I'm getting a little tired of people diminishing the worth of authors as if writing is so easy that we don't really work at what we do. That what we do is 'for fun'.
Writing is hard. Things don't always come easy. There are times your story ends up going way off in a different direction than you originally planned and you must sit back and rethink things. Characters don't always end up developing the way you thought they would and something you were counting on happening has somehow become obsolete to the storyline.
Sitting your butt down and writing an entire novel of 60,000 to over 100,000 words is difficult. Writers put their heart and soul into everything they write. It's exhausting. From creating each character (and loving them as if they're part of the family and very real) to creating the world they live in and the story of their life and how they ended up where they are, it's work.
You want to hand someone a picture and go, "Hey write a scene for this." With no context or description of what has happened to come to that point and you want to tell that person they're worth less than the artist that drew the picture? That somehow you're doing less work because you aren't the only writer on the project? You do not place the worth of an employee on whether they're the only person doing that job. That isn't how it works. If there's 8000 employees in a warehouse, do you pay them pennies because theyr'e each only doing a little bit of the work? No, the employees would riot and your business would fold.
Writers are creative individuals and we work damn hard at our craft. DO NOT tell an author they're worth less pay, that they should make less because what they do isn't important. If it wasn't important then you wouldn't have hired writers for your project.
No one is worth less than another simply because they do a different job.
Never belittle someone for the work they do.
And if you want to diminish their worth then don't be a project manager because you're obviously not cut out to lead and manage a damn thing.
Right, I'm going back to my quiet little corner now.
