That Weird Feeling
Has anyone ever gotten that weird feeling in their chest when they're singing?
Like, you're singing a song, maybe it's from a musical or you know there's some story behind it. You know that you're supposed to sing with emotion, to make to mean something to your audience, but it's never really meant anything to you before. You know what it means and you know what you're supposed to convey, but it's never really meant something to you on a deeper level than what you know about the song.
But then you're singing it, and something just hits you, but you don't even know what exactly it is. It's like you've been overwhelmed with feelings and emotions that don't even seem like they belong to you. Your vision suddenly gets a little blurry, and then clear again, but you aren't where you were a minute ago. Memories of events that you've forgotten (or maybe you've purposely blocked them out) are being reenacting in front of you, and the possibilities of what could be are being blended in with those memories.
And out of nowhere, the song just gains a really deep meaning to you. Your voice takes on a new sound to it, angry and broken and desperate and hopeful and helpless and powerful all wrapped up in one. There are tears burning in your eyes as you let yourself pour put everything into this one song. Your fists are clenched and your shoulders are rolled back. In that moment, you're defying everyone and everything that has ever put you down.
And then it's over. You blink as the music ends. Everyone is looking at you strangely. "Are you okay?" they ask you. "Yeah," you say. "I'm fine. Nothing happened."
You're fine. Nothing happened.
...
Has anyone ever gotten that feeling before?
