RNHS Chapter 9
"Kya copy kho di?",
shouts Pooja.
"Pooja maine... maine... I think Alekh ko di thi!",
says Naina, hesitantly.
"Apun ko? Apun ko kyun degi tu? Apun ka adhey se zada kaam to tu karti hai pura",
Alekh defends himself, completely oblivious to what's going on in her mind.
Naina gets nervous. Even after thinking hard she fails to understand where has she kept it. Indeed it would turn out to be a great headache for Pooja, if they don't find it.
Ali reaches them and asks Pooja out of concern,
"Kya hua Pooja ji? Aap pareshan lag rahi hain?"
Pooja remembers their prior chat and fresh anger surges through her. Already pissed off, Ali's question increases her frustration.
"Tujhey apne cross connection se fursat miley tab pata lagega na mere missed call ka",
taunts Pooja, looking towards Ali.
"Pooja ji aap.... aap aise kyun keh rahi hain?",
asks Ali.
Naina intervenes,
"Haan Pooja, tu iss tarah kyun baat kar rahi hai?"
"Chor Naina. Iss problem ke barey mein sochte hain",
saying so, Pooja rolls her eyes and leaves.
Naina looks towards Ali, concerned.
"Ahmmm... Ali mujhey ye to nahi pata tum dono mein kya baat hui hai, par main baat karti hun usse",
assures Naina, smiling lightly.
"Ji! Ji Naina ji!",
says Ali, hesitantly.
"Aur... aur humein yakeen hai ke aap bhi jis baat ko le kar pareshan hain, uska hal apko mil jaye",
blesses Ali, smiling hesitantly.
Naina smiles back.
"Oye shaney. Sirf dua dega, madad nahi karega kya?",
calls Alekh, as Ali leaves.
Turning to look towards Alekh, Ali asks happily,
"Bataiye, hum apki kya madad kar sakte hain?"
Naina looks towards Alekh, assuming him to be having some idea.
"Boley to jin jin class mein Naina gayi thi, tujhey unn unn class mein ja kar dekhna parhega ke kahin Naina ne copy to nahi chor di wahan!",
says Alekh.
"Alekh bhai hum aise akele kaise har class mein ja sakte hain? Humara matlab agar hum sub alag alag class mein jaye to kaam zada jaldi hoga. Nahi?",
suggests Ali.
Turning to look towards Naina, Alekh says,
"Waise Naina baat to bilkul patey ki kar raha hai Ali. To ek kaam kar tu udhar wali dekh, apun idhar wali dekhta hai",
indicating Ali to go to the right and he himself would go to the left.
"Theek hai Alekh bhai hum abhi jatey hain",
says Ali and turns to leave.
Alekh's words make him to halt,
"Waise Naina apun ke, tere, Yudi aur Huda ke alawa kisi aur ladke se to baat karti nahi hai. To apun ko nahi lagta ke kisi ladke ke paas iski copy ho sakti hai."
Naina's eyes widen as she realizes where Alekh's mind is leading towards, or rather wandering. She widens her eyes and looks towards Alekh. Alekh winks at her, whilst Ali, ponders at Alekh's words, his head bowed down. Naina standing with Alekh, purses her lips, controlling her fit of laughter. She feels sorry for Ali and thinks of ending this prank. Knowing Naina very well, Alekh widens his eyes, warning her to remain quiet.
"Alekh bhai aap bhi chaliye na?",
asks Ali.
"Apun? Apun udhar ja raha hai na. Alag alag jagah jayenge to kaam jaldi hoga na",
explains Alekh, controlling his amusement.
Naina shakes her head thinking how impossible Alekh is.
With no other option left, Ali leaves for the task.
As he leaves Naina beats Alekh on his shoulder, who is busy looking towards the way Ali went and laughing. Naina's pat drags Alekh's attention. Still laughing he looks towards Naina.
"Kyun kiya tu ne aisa? Janta hai na wo kaisa hai?",
asks Naina.
"Boley to wo aisa hai isliye hi to uske saath kiya",
laughs Alekh.
"Ab tujh mein aur Huda mein kya farak raha Alekh?",
asks Naina, knitting her brows.
Alekh looks towards Naina seriously,
"Apun ko tu Huda ke mafik samjh reli hai?"
"Ki to Huda wali harkat hi na tu ne?",
scolds Naina.
Closing his eyes, taking a deep breath, Alekh opens his eyes and turns to look towards Naina. His eyes after meeting her eyes, rests on her forehead. Taking the index finger of his right hand to her forehead, he traces the line of tension that builds on her forehead. His gesture takes Naina by surprise. She relaxes a little, still confused by his gesture.
"Zindagi mein kabhi kabar masti mazak bhi kar lena chahiye",
Alekh shakes his head, smiling a little.
"Ye tu mujhey samjha raha hai?",
asks Naina, in disbelief, emphasizing on 'tu'!
"Boley to sangati ka asar hai",
Alekh looks towards her through corner of his eyes.
Smiling, controlling her fit of laughter, she says,
"Mujh par bhi!"
Alekh turns to look towards Naina, and they both end up laughing together.
"Waise... waise bechare Ali ki halat dekhne layak hogi",
says Naina, whilst laughing.
"Sirf uski hi nahi wo jin jin se mil raha hai unka chehra bhi dekhne layak hoga",
laughs Alekh.
Relaxing, Alekh asks, teasingly,
"Aur bata tera aur Captain ka maunvrat kaisa chal raha hai?"
Naina's face falls on listening to his question. She turns to look towards Alekh, all serious, then turns back to look in front.
"Mujhey koi farak nahi parhta!",
states Naina, sadly.
"Jhoot utna bol jitne par log bharosa kar le. Aur ye mat bhul tu apun se baat kar rahi hai",
warns Alekh, narrowing his eyes.
Naina looks towards Alekh.
"Kya bolun?",
asks Naina, pissed off.
"Waise tujhey baat kya karni hai unse?",
asks Alekh, teasingly.
Naina glares him. Alekh laughs at this.
~*~*~
In his room, Rajveer sits on his sofa, thoroughly tired. Resting his head back, Rajveer thinks about Naina. A frown comes on his face as he fails to understand why Naina is avoiding him. He misses her. This is indeed the first time he is missing her, in spite of being in the academy, he realizes. At first he finds it weird, this sensation.
He remembers the last argument they had on Naveen. He gets restless all over again.
His mind drifts towards the moment when after Abhimanyu's oath taking ceremony, she tried to ignore him. But why? Why did she do that?
Pressing the skin at his forehead in between his brows, he closes his eyes, trying to find the answer.
Yudi walks to Captain Rajveer's room. Knocking the door, he gets in, on getting Captain Rajveer's consent.
"Cadet Yudi, tum yahan?",
asks Captain Rajveer.
"Ahmm... yes Sir. Wo apne kaha tha ke aap mujhey 'Map and Conventional Signs' ki book denge. Sir exams aa rahe hain so I just thought preparation shuru kar dun",
smiles Yudi.
"Oh sure Yudi. Ye to bohot achi baat hai. Wait mujhey dhundhni hogi wo book. You sit, I'll get it to you",
smiles Captain Rajveer.
Getting up he asks him,
"Make yourself comfortable".
"Thank you Sir!",
smiles Yudi.
While Rajveer leaves for the other half of his room in search of the book, Yudi takes his seat on the sofa. Soon he drifts into the memory of a recent encounter with Dr. Shalini on the corridor, as Yudi was coming to Rajveer Sir.
*Flashback*
As Yudi was walking through the corridor, lost in his thoughts, Dr. Shalini, calls him,
"Hey Yudi".
Yudi halts on hearing her voice. Getting out of his daze, he turns to look. Smiling, he greets Dr. Shalini.
But Dr. Shalini notices how he is tensed about something.
"Kya baat hai Yudi? Tum pareshan lag rahe ho!",
asks Dr. Shalini, sympathetically.
Yudi looks towards Dr. Shalini.
"Ma'am ab main apko kya bataun. It's like Pooja ki ek copy kho gayi hai. And all of us are after this copy. Doesn't it sound weird?",
asks Yudi, lowering his voice, his expression is that of hesitation.
Smiling, Dr. Shalini says,
"Iss mein galat kya hai? Ek friend ki madad karna is a nice thing Yudi. I am surprised ki mujhey tumhe ye baat samjhani parh rahi hai!"
"No! No Ma'am you are taking it all wrong",
says Yudi, getting nervous on being misunderstood by Dr. Shalini.
"I mean I am always there to help my friends. But ma'am ek copy ke peeche aise time waste karna sounds ridiculous",
Yudi puts his thoughts into words.
Smiling, understanding him, Dr. Shalini says,
"I understand Yudi. But tum ye socho agar Pooja ki jagah tumhari notebook kho jati to tum kaise react karte? Exams aney ko hain and tumhare sarey notes ussi copy mein ho to?"
"She can always take our copy and scan Ma'am",
suggests Yudi.
Smiling, Dr. Shalini says,
"That's so sweet of you to say that cadet. But kya Pooja ek koshish bhi na karey?"
Yudi goes quiet on hearing her. He does realize that even his things are precious to him how small it might be.
"I guess you are right ma'am!",
says Yudi, pondering into the situation.
His eyes somewhere in front of him on the floor, he smiles as he thinks,
"Apko pata hai Ma'am main apne personal articles ko lekar bohot possessive hun. I mean main ek pen jab tak ki uski ink puri khatam na ho jaye, use karta rehta hun, till it goes draught!",
laughs Yudi, feeling embarrassmed.
Dr. Shalini smiles lovingly.
"I know cadet, that's in you. I can feel it. Tum apne friends ki feelings ki bohot kadar karte ho. You have that sentiment to get attached to anyone, anything. I am sure tum bhi apne har ek article ko lekar bohot possessive hoge",
smiles Dr. Shalini.
"Jab tum inn sub cheezon ko lekar itne possessive ho, to ye to copy hai jahan usne itni mehnat se sub kuch likha. Right?",
asks Dr. Shalini, lovingly.
"Right Ma'am",
blushes Yudi, apologetically.
*Flashback ends*
Smiling, Yudi shakes his head, unable to believe that he has actually started taking the copy seriously since the moment Dr. Shalini explained this to him.
Unconsciously, Yudi picks up the copy and writes a song,
'Kayi baar yunhi dekha hai,
ye jo mann ki seemarekha hai,
Mann tod ne lagta hai.
Anjane pyas ke peechey,
anjane aas ke peechey,
mann daud ne lagta hai'
"Here you go!",
Captain Rajveer's voice drags Yudi out of his moment of bliss. Closing the copy, he quickly places it back on the table. Captain Rajveer, whose eyes were on the book in his hand, doesn't notice that Yudi wrote something in the copy placed there. What he does notice is that he keeps the copy back on the table. Taking it as Yudi was just giving the copy a glance, Captain Rajveer doesn't ponder into the situation much. Handing Yudi over the book he was looking for, Captain Rajveer smiles and asks whilst taking his seat on the sofa,
"Yahi hai na?"
Reading the name, Yudi smiles and thank Captain Rajveer.
"Yes Sir. Thank you so much Sir. Trust me you have helped me a big deal. Ab I am sure main ye papers clear kar paunga",
says Yudi, excited.
"Kya matlab hai tumhara, ke main acha nahi parhata? All you needed was this book?",
asks Captain Rajveer, knitting his brows, acting to be disappointed.
Getting nervous on realizing what a blooper he committed, but he didn't mean it that way, he looks nervously towards Captain Rajveer.
~*~*~
On his way to finding the copy, Ali happens to meet Huda.
"Arey arey Usool kahan bhagey ja raha hai? Pooja ne bulaya hai kya?",
winks Huda.
Halting, getting irritated, Ali says,
"Pooja ji ne nahi, Pooja ji ki notebook ne!"
"Notebook?",
asks Huda, wrinkling his nose, as he finds it weird.
Then suddenly he thinks something.
(Huda's background tune begins)
Embracing Ali by his shoulder, he hesitantly asks,
"Abey usool Pooja se directly nahi bol pa rahi isliye uski notebook ke saath romance farma raha hai?",
although he himself finds it weird and disgusting, the words he uttered, by the scenario in front of him bounds him to think so.
This skips Ali's heartbeat. He turns crimson red, as if caught romancing with Pooja. In his blushed up state, his eyes lowered, Ali asks,
"Ye... ye aap... aap.... kaisi baatein kar rahe hain Huda bhai?"
~*~*~
Rajveer bursts into fit of laughter on witnessing a nervous Yudi. Yudi takes a sigh of relief as he realizes that Captain Rajveer was joking.
Turning a bit serious, Captain Rajveer asks Yudi,
"Are you in a hurry?"
"No! Not at all Sir. Did you have some work?",
asks Yudi, smiling.
Rajveer giving it a second thought. Then says,
"Ahmmm... no actually, just aise hi dimag mein kuch chal raha tha to socha baat kar lun kisi se. Tum aye ho to, thought tumse share karun".
This swells Yudi's heart.
"Sure... Sure Sir! Anything!",
smiles Yudi.
"Yudi, Pooja aur Naina ke beech mein sub theek hai na?",
asks Rajveer, hesitantly.
"Yeah... yeah Sir. I guess sub theek hi hai. I haven't heard anything out of the box abhi tak to",
says Yudi, getting serious.
"Why? Kuch hua kya?",
asks Yudi concerned.
Rajveer gets alert,
"Nahi... nahi hoga kya! I mean normally women tend to keep their problems to themselves. Pooja thodi tensed lagi mujhey... just... that's fine, shayad main hi zada soch raha hun",
says Rajveer, trying to avoid looking towards Yudi directly.
"You know Sir, I guess you are right!",
says Yudi.
This drags Rajveer's attention. Rajveer thinks Yudi knows something that Rajveer doesn't know. He looks towards Yudi, expectantly.
"Ye aurtein na dil mein kitni baatein chupa kar rakhti hain, ye to bus unhe hi pata hota hai",
says Yudi, shaking his head.
"And then agar unse kuch puch lo, to unka first question hoga - 'kis haq se pucha tumne?",
he adds further.
His words make Rajveer to sit straight and a smile reaches on his face, as if Yudi has worded Rajveer's feelings.
"Hai na?",
he asks, although excited, but trying to show himself calm in front of Yudi.
Adjusting a little on his seat, Yudi asks,
"You know... you know what Sir, I don't understand konsa pahad tut jayega agar ye humare saath apni problems share kar le to?"
Rajveer smiles, understanding it perfectly that he is pointing towards Dr. Shalini.
"Well I guess you need to give them time and have patience",
suggests Rajveer.
"Yeah but how much time exactly?",
asks Yudi, expectantly, looking towards Rajveer.
Rajveer lowers his eyes, as he realizes that he himself needs to know about it.
Suddenly, an idea strikes him. Looking towards Yudi with his twinkling eyes, he suggests him,
"Ye baat tum khud unse pucho na?"
"Main?",
asks Yudi, shocked.
"Haan to? Be a man Yudi!",
saying that Rajveer pats on his upper arm, encouragingly.
"Main... Main kaise puchun?",
asks Yudi.
"Haq se pucho!",
says Rajveer, his eyes twinkling.
This in return makes Yudi's eyes to twinkle too. He has gained all the confidence he needed.
Getting excited, Yudi says,
"You know what Sir, you are simply the best!"
Giving him a tight hug, taking Rajveer by surprise, Yudi leaves the room, completely ready to ask anything and everything he wants to know, HAQ SE!
~*~*~
Huda and Ali try out every possible place but they fail to discover the copy.
~*~*~
"Mujhey jo kaam hai unse main kisi bhi haal mein pura kar hi lungi anyways",
smiles Naina, sarcastically.
"Theek hai bus ye dhyan mein rakhne ka ke kuch bolegi nahi tu",
warns Alekh.
"Ji! Ab main jaun?",
asks Naina sarcastically.
"Han ja na",
smiles Alekh.
Shaking her head, Naina leaves.
~*~*~
As Naina reaches Rajveer's room, she hears his fits of laughter. She gets confused, as she hears no one else, that means he is alone. And by the way he is laughing, it doesn't seem that he is talking to someone over phone. So what exactly is the reason of his laughter?
Curious to know, Naina pushes the door open without asking for permission. Rajveer's laughter comes to a halt abruptly as his eyes lay on Naina.
(Rajveer-Naina piano tune begins as they stare each other)
Naina resists herself from asking him the reason of his laughter.
Teasing her, Rajveer asks, looking at her intimately,
"Kya baat hai Naina, tumhari himmat; tumhara haq aaj itna barh gaya ke tum bina knock kiye mere room mein aa rahi ho?"
He never ends the eye contact. The intimate eye contact and the frustration of the fact that she can't talk to him, gives adrenaline rush to Naina.
She needs to let him know about the missing copy of Pooja but then Alekh's deal binds her. How can she do that without talking to him? And what is the reason of his laughter?
Rajveer keeps staring her. Her expression tells him that she is pissed off about something. What is this silence for?
"Tum kya mujhey dekhne ayi thi?"
His question takes Naina by surprise. How can she lie that she wasn't craving to look at him?
Naina's gaze turns intimate.
Her silence frustrates Rajveer all the more. He slowly walks towards her, trying to read her.
"Kya hua Naina any problem?",
he asks, worried.
She curses Alekh at this moment. Because of him, she cannot even tell him that there is nothing to worry, he doesn't have to panic.
Naina's eyes suddenly falls on the notebook he has been holding in his hand. Naina sighs in relief and glares him, so he is the culprit. It was with him this whole time?
Naina slowly walks towards him. Rajveer is being patient throughout. By her expressions, he could make out that she is trying to mentally put all the puzzles on their places. But if she is in problem, why not is she sharing it with him?
"Kya baat hai Naina?",
asks Rajveer, his frustration increasing as his anxiety level increases on not getting the answer from her.
Naina points towards the notebook in his hand.
"Ye?",
asks Rajveer.
Naina nods her head in affirmation.
At this moment Rajveer finds her just so adorable.
"Pehle mere sawaal ka jawab do",
says Rajveer.
Naina mentally rolls her eyes, the whole situation they are going through is because of the reason that she is not permitted to talk to him and here he is asking her to answer his question. Naina shakes her head out of frustration.
Taking it as a 'no' Rajveer prompts,
"Kya? Tum mujhey 'na' keh rahi ho?"
At first she gets nervous, he is taking her gestures wrongly. But the look of disappointment on his face is something Naina witnesses for the first time on her account. So why not keep it intact for some more time?
Naina arches a brow, smiling challengingly. At this Rajveer knits his brows feeling disappointed. Naina moves forth and tries to snatch the copy from his hand but Rajveer moves his hand at the right moment. The victorious smirk on his face gives Naina the adrenaline rush.
Somehow Rajveer realizes that she is in some kind of 'maunvrat'.
"Kya hai ye Naina? Tum kabse vrat and all mein bharosa karne lagi? I mean all that karvachauth vrat and all!",
says Rajveer, mocking at her.
Naina narrows her eyes on him. This makes Rajveer to laugh out loud. Getting up he walks towards her whilst asking,
"So what do you do in this vrat by the way?"
Naina understands that he is just teasing her. Naina's heartbeat picks up pace, as he walks towards her, looking intently into her eyes.
Then suddenly he acts to be remembering,
"Oh! Tum kaise bataogi mujhey, tumhara to 'Maunvrat' hai!",
teases Rajveer, looking straight into her eyes.
His tease affects her, she lowers her eyes unable to maintain the stare.
Walking away, he says,
"Strange tum tabse mujhey avoid kar rahi ho; mujhse baat nahi kar rahi. Par ye copy lene ke liye aa gayi mere paas. Kuch to khas baat hogi na iss copy mein?"
Naina stares him, standing behind, shaking her head, blushing at the thought that how much he thinks!
"Hmmm?",
prompts Rajveer.
"Let's see!",
says Rajveer and begins to open the notebook.
Naina gets nervous and quickly reaches him and puts a hand on the copy, refraining him from opening it.
(Rajveer-Naina tune begins as they stare each other)
"Naina agar tum meri protegee ho; to main bhi tumhara mentor hun!",
teases Rajveer.
Naina knits her brows, unable to understand what does he mean?
Smirking, understanding that she is confused, Rajveer clears the doubt by saying,
"Tum agar chup reh sakti ho; to tumse kuch bulwana mujhey bhi aata hai!",
warns Rajveer.
Naina arches a brow, taking it as a challenge.
"By the way tum log kya class mein antakshari khelte ho?",
asks Rajveer, disappointed.
"Come on Naina I understand ke Captain Abhimanyu music teacher hain but aise time waste karna without his knowledge, this sounds childish",
scolds Rajveer.
Then suddenly he asks,
"Kya tum log meri class mein bhi yahi karte ho?"
Naina knits her brows, looking at him in utter disbelief. How could he even think so? The flaring of her nostrils warns Rajveer about how annoyed she is on hearing him. But hold on, why is she being annoyed? If someone has the right to be annoyed then it has to be him, because of her so called 'Maunvrat'.
"Naina pehle to tum mujhse baat karo! It's so damn frustrating!",
scolds Rajveer.
Naina forwards her right ear, arching a brow, as a gesture of him to repeat it again as if she couldn't hear him.
"What?",
asks Rajveer, annoyed.
Naina takes a deep breath, crossing her arms over her chest, looking at him with full determination.
She looks around in his room as if searching something.
"What? Kya dhundh rahi ho?",
asks Rajveer, puzzled.
Naina smiles as she discovers what she was searching for. Walking to it she sits on her feet and starts ploughing the manure of the plant kept in his room.
Rajveer finds it weird and also the fact that she is messing up with his pot frustrates him.
"Naina... Naina ye tum kya kar rahi ho...?",
he asks, exasperated, walking to her.
Naina continues with ploughing the pot with her hands.
"For god's sake stop it Naina!",
he tries to stop her, while Naina successfully brings out some manure off the pot.
"Naina wo gamla... oh god what the hell are you doing?",
says Rajveer, his anger rising with each passing moment. He notices how in her process of ploughing it she has scattered the manure all around the pot.
"Tum kuch bol kyun nahi rahi?",
the messed up state of his room irritates him.
"Tum mera gussa mere gamlon par kyun utar rahi ho?",
asks Rajveer, unable to understand why is she doing so and at last ends up thinking that may be she is angry on him and taking revenge this way!
"What the hell Naina?",
shouts Rajveer, as Naina throws the mud she ploughed, on him and hence messing up his shirt.
Glaring her he scolds her,
"Tum achi tarah janti ho ke mujhey ye gandagi nahi pasand Naina".
Naina starts taking deep breaths out of anxiety. When will he get to the point?
"I cannot believe this. Aj tak kisi ki himmat nahi hui hai mujh par iss tarah mitti fekne ki siwaye tumhare!",
scolds Rajveer.
Naina purses her lips to control her fit of laughter.
Rajveer remains engrossed in checking out his dress trying to think what should he do now to clean himself up.
Frustrated, he suddenly looks towards her, gesturing with two fingers in front of her,
"Dusri baar! Dusri baar tumhari wajah se ye hua hai!",
he reminds her.
She gets excited, he is getting to the point.
"Tumhe pata hai uss din jab tum mujh par hans rahi thi to....",
he begins again, raising his voice.
Naina stares him, all anxious to know how did he feel?
Flashes of those moments come in front of his eyes.
